Thanks to ltec for the new title.

OP posts:
thirstymerc · 31/05/2010 21:58

Ooh thanks all for the R&B glads tip. They do indeed look lovely. Further quick Qs while I've got you - do they come in tan, are they zipped at the back and is the sole leather or rubber? Thanks again.

roary · 31/05/2010 22:02

Random going to bed question: those of you with dds, what do you call little girl parts? Dh keeps calling it the minky which drives me wild. My mom in good 70s hippy fashion insisted on vagina but that is not technically correct either! You all seem like sensible types, what do you do?

formerly poor you. One of the playground moms here is a paediatrician and, after another girl ended up in hospital v ill with sepsis says all it takes for most hospital paeds to spring in to action is a 2nd time mum saying something is not right. First timers they factor in nerves more but still rely hugely on intuition esp with under 2s.

Back to your reg scheduled stylish programming.

CHOOGIRL · 31/05/2010 22:08

Merc Yes they zip at the back to make them easier to put on. I also undo the ankle buckles.

Roary My DD is 4 and has names which are equally as annoying as Minky. Sometimes she calls it her bottom

notyummy · 31/05/2010 22:11

We tend to alternate between 'vagina', 'girl bits' and 'front bottom' - I know, I know!!

DD at not yet 4 is fascinated with anatomy, biology and reproduction and we have been closely questioned on it. I have already been told that if she has a baby she thinks she will have a hole in her tummy, thankyou, as pushing out sounds a bit sore.

You think??

BTW, I haven't been trying to scare her to death with unwanted details. This was in response to her Jeremy Paxman-like questioning about why she couldn't sit on my friends knee (who had just had a CS.) I explained about the operation. She had already asked previously about how babies get out of the mummmies - and now she knows there is an alternative she is DEF too posh to push

LetThemEatCake · 31/05/2010 22:14

okay, so if we have agreed to let punctuation etc go then I am going to go to town with my Ocker slang

NY good job on the capsule wardrobe, hope the weather is fantastic for you so that you can waft to your heart's content.

merc how marvellous, a long-term lurker de-lurks. Tres exciting. Am also after a pair of lovely metallic glads so am watching replies with interest

hells have reconsidered that Lim dress and I like it mucho muchissimo but FFS, over £300 for a long t-shirt with some stardust on the shoulders?? the cheapskate Gok in me objects. Like the shoes though, why do you think you are rubbish at shoes?

esher so glad you are back. How is dd1? was that why you were busy last week? Hope all is well. DH is off to NYC on Wed, will see KO'C, can't wait to tell him that we 'know' each other!

Wellhung you give yourself a break, young lady. You work magic, gardens are meant to grow, the weeding can't wait. And I don't doubt that you ooze sex appeal!

Took advatnge of dh's rare presence to go for a run tonight after the dc in bed and oh my word, it was fab. Not sure whether it was the time of the day (I prefer evening running), the soundtrack (Death Cab for Cutie) or the the fact that I had a reasonable lunch (with carbs and everything!!) but I. Was. On. Fire. Could've run forever and ever.

Mentioned earlier that we were at Spitalfields (ate at Leon, god I love it here and not just because I get to stockpile stickers for dc3 ) so of course I ventured into All Saints .. have never bought from there before but see it mentioned on here a lot and it was a bank holiday 25% disc special ... holy crap, what a miserable bloody place. But saw a few contenders for the elusive grey hanky-hem top thing ... except that, hello, one should not need a road map in order to don a top. All that draping!! I was totally confused, stuck, arms flailing, heads through arm holes etc. Granted, had dd and bub in pram with me (ds1 and dh wisely waited outside) so may have been slightly flustered and trying to hurry but putting on a top sould not be that hard. Especially when said top costs £70 and upwards.

Right. Spanx. Do I ned them and where would I buy them?

roary · 31/05/2010 22:16

Notyummy, your dd sounds hilarious. Mine is currently breastfeeding her toys from her navel and v intrigued about the difference between willies and tails. Totally confusing when you think about it . She also tells strangers that ds has a willy.

At least bottom/front bottom etc aren't cutesy wootsey.

LetThemEatCake · 31/05/2010 22:16

Choo!! no way!! I live, like, 2 minutes walk away, just behind it!

notyummy · 31/05/2010 22:18

Cake - in answer to your spanx question (one of my specialized subjects...)

No, you almost certainly don't need.

But Figleaves stock LOADS of different kinds.

Here - I have the full slip shown at top left, amongst my extensive collection.

LetThemEatCake · 31/05/2010 22:19

bloody hell.

The weeding can wait

Spanx - do I need them

I'm sure there's more. Am basking in roma's permissiveness un po' troppo, I think.

hf128219 · 31/05/2010 22:23

Choo Think a Twilly is fine on any bag. I even wear one in my hair..... sometimes!

Romanarama · 31/05/2010 22:25

ma chi se ne frega?

ny your dd is funny. I don't have girls and my boys say 'willy place' or 'patata' which is the Italian girls' alternative to 'willy'. I can't really imagine instructing them to say 'vulva'. I'm not embarrassed about telling them anything, but I think it would be weird to hear boys say 'vulva'. Why is there no neutral child word like 'willy'. It's odd, no?

roary · 31/05/2010 22:28

Agreed. Willy = fine minky = bleirrrrrgh. Why?

LetThemEatCake · 31/05/2010 22:32

oh roary we say bits or 'gina (not like the name, like vagina without the va!!) Mostly bits though.

roma isn't that a song? about to mail you

notyummy · 31/05/2010 22:33

Well done on the great run btw Cake. It's great when it comes together like that.

Am currently bemoaning on another thread the amount of physical pain I am in following a possibly ill advised double session of shredding yesterday with the additional decision of using heavier weights than on the DVD. My thighs!

notyummy · 31/05/2010 22:34

Night all!

AWellHungParliament · 31/05/2010 22:41

Well done thirstymerc, loving the double whammy, I hope you find your glads. I am of no use on that front, sorry.

I really like the idea of all you Avid and Wise ladies passing like ships in the night through each others' territory. Its quite romantic and only a matter of time...

eshermummy · 31/05/2010 22:48

Cake - hope K O'C remembers me (and has only nice things to say!!!) will be v embarrassing if not!

Carciofi - let me know if you want to ask any Q's about Esher schools or Esher generally, I pride myself on being world expert on such matters. Only thing is I don't want to discuss on here as have lots of info born of personal experience that would make me v identifiable so we will have to find way to chat offline

Bloody hell, only just caught up on thread - quite a run of injuries/hospitalisations ladeez so let's try and keep the excitement in the fashion please, not A&E!!!

Merc - welcome, I don't have the R&B glads (sadly) but have admired them muchly, they are lovely.
I have these which have garnered muchos compliments and have been stopped twice in as many days by random strangers enquiring as to their provenance

thirstymerc · 31/05/2010 22:48

Meant to say before now, thanks for the welcome all. Sorry have only done a 'me' post today. Will try and get properly into the swing of this and make some comments on links etc.

NY - your capsule wardrobe looks fab. I must take note. I love the idea of throwing only a few things into a case and being able to put together one fabulous outfit after another in an effortless way... so why do I always end up with a case stuffed to bursting with clothes that are either a. completely unsuitable for any occasion or b. go with absolutely nothing else in the case...?

roary - My DD is 3 and we have always called them 'girly bits'! Don't really know where it came from, and I haven't been able to think of anything better. Rather oddly though she uses both 'belly' and 'willy' for the latter, despite our efforts to keep explaining the difference . Might not be a bad thing if she decides to mention when we're out in public though!

hellsbelles · 31/05/2010 22:53

thirstymerc welcome - I didn't realise so many of us had the R&B glads....I have them in tan and I'm thinking of getting the metallic as well. They are so comfortable...they even have cushioned soles

Cake - I agree the Philip Lim is too many £££'s - it was more the 'look' the A&W tick on. I am rubbish at shoes because I have always veered towards comfort comfort comfort. And (apart from R&B glads ) comfort doesn't usually equal style classic!

I completely agree on All Saints. I ventured into the Angel branch...and ran straight back out...very odd place. Everything looked a bit grubby in fact.

You don't need spanx.

Where and what is Leon? Why don't I know about this place?

roary - we are rubbish on that topic...so far DS has named DD's 'lady bits'...

Wellhung - of course you can let some of the balls drop - you wouldn't be human if you didn't.

hellsbelles · 31/05/2010 22:54

that made no sense. Never mind

eshermummy · 31/05/2010 22:57

ooh Helles - did you get the Emily & Fin blue dress from Coggles that Cake recommended? If you like the shape then there are a couple of the same shape dresses in diff prints on the ASOS cleranace bit - reduced to £19 iirc.
I think I am going to keep mine but is a tad low cut on me so not sure whether to purchase another or not

hellsbelles · 31/05/2010 23:04

I did Esher and I love it but agree on the neckline, infact I was going to ask you what you did about it? I'm going to have to wear a vest top with mine.

AWellHungParliament · 31/05/2010 23:11

Thank you for your kind words.

romanarama I googled your phrase and looking for a song, found the following. The lady on the video is obvioulsy giving the girls a proper roasting but none of it means anything until she spits out 'fafanculo' (sp) which I know is not kind! What is the poor girl's crime?

eshermummy · 31/05/2010 23:14

well, I haven't worn mine yet but I wasn't sure whether I should have got the S instead of the XS - annoyingly, the XS fits fine over a bra but I don't think I could get a vest under it comfortably but I think an S might be too big at the shoulders and Coggles was sold out of the S anyway and I can't really be arsed to send it back

If you can get a vest comfortably under yours then I'd do that - I was thinking of starting a thread to see if anyone could recommend a bra top/crop top (do you know hat I mean) so that it came across the deep v part but didn't add any bulk underneath the dress iyswim?
Otherwise I may just brave it as it is, as boobs are not exactly large so it's more bone than flesh that's on display and the dress itself is otherwise quite modest in length etc.
What do you think?

eshermummy · 31/05/2010 23:16

sorry about typos
