please tell her to cover her knees.

(Sarah if you are lurking, please read.)

Yes, I know this is bitchy but I feel embarrassed for her; she does not have good legs and the dresses she has worn this week show too much knee, by at least 3 inches.

Who daren't tell her?

And her colours today- navy dress, black jacket(?) beige shoes and what looks like a white handbag.

I am avidly interested in the substance not just the style of politics, but please- these people have advisors and she was in PR- will someone please tell her?

i really do, i promise. (aitch here) like you, i do notice that they are not her best feature and i like her all the more for not seeking to cover them up. i body-confident people, i find it very appealing.

Matsikula · 01/05/2010 17:31

Actually, I think that length is good on her body shape (she's not swamped) it's the sheer black tights that are a bit tricky. But I really don't care. I think anyone in politics should make an effort to look presentable, and she does. Boris Johnson's scruffiness on the other hand is just one of his affections, designed to underline his intellect.

There is a serious political wife and fashion question though: if Cameron gets to be PM, is his wife going to give up her job? Not because she shouldn't work, but because I think it would be a bit wrong for her public position to make her a walking billboard for Smythsons. Maybe they've already said something about this, and I have missed it.

HandsOffMyDrum · 01/05/2010 18:41

Ha, probably is an affectation of Boris looking scruffy -if so he was definitely cultivating it way back in his Bullingdon days!

Heathcliffscathy · 01/05/2010 18:46

bollox and shite. im about to argue with a lot of my 'friends' on here but bollox!

ALL politicians are criticised for what they wear as are their spouses who are often in the public eye (i seem to remember dennis thatch catching a lot of flak for his wayward hair and general alcohol induced scruffiness).

perfectly fine to offer sarah brown style advice.

just as fine to lambast one of the leaders for wearing a shit suit (they're paid enough to have no excuse).

sloppy dressing doesn't equate to powerful brains, or at least it shouldn't.

think it's shit to say you can't have a pop at a leaders' spouse for looking like shit tbh.

so bollox.

Heathcliffscathy · 01/05/2010 18:47

if you can't get your shit together personal grooming wise when you have that many staff there is no fucking hope tbh.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 01/05/2010 19:06

And you're not being patronising about Mrs Brown, eh, Peony?

traceybath · 01/05/2010 19:09

She needs to post in S&B - we'd help her dress to flatter her figure

Sophable - hows your pregancy going?

Perhaps she should wear a maxi skirt - a la lisa armstrong in the times today.

SawneyBeane · 01/05/2010 19:27

I would vote for Gordon if he wore an eye-patch....and carried around a white James-Bond-villan cat.

He could stroke it masterfully.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 01/05/2010 19:44

Stroke the eye patch masterfully?

bronze · 01/05/2010 19:50

regarless of all politics I think Sarah Brown comes across as being really lovely. To behonest I don't notice what people wear unless its an extreme of tatse and I've never noticed anything commentable about her. I think she just look snice, not a bad thing

Cogitoergosum- there is a pirate running for Cities of London and Westminster in the upcoming General Election.

MailyDail · 01/05/2010 20:03

i didn't say you can't offer her clothes advice, in fact i think i specifically said that was fair game soph. but expecting her to be mortally ashamed of her own joints is a bit ridiculous, imo. and plus, on a site that she lurks on, when she's likely having a crap week anyway... why bother? if, as peony says, she's too busy to care, why bother? and if, because she lurks here and might read it, why bother? it's just a bit crummy and unsisterly.

SawneyBeane · 01/05/2010 20:17

Yes, Maisie, with an unnaturally long finger nail.

bunnymother · 01/05/2010 20:18

Hmm, I agree with many differing opinions here. How SB looks should not be so important. However, people do create an appearance to send others a message about themselves. So why not Create an appearance that is as attractive as possible by choose something more flattering. Which does mean below the knee. Such a lovely length for a pencil skirt. And takes no more time to choose and put on than one above the knee. Perhaps she does need a stylist and a decent budget. A well chosen wardrobe would save her time selecting her outfit each day. Then she can focus on other, more weighty matters that no doubt are of more importance to her (quite rightly, too!!).

Finally, SB is blessed with such a lovely face. Very fortunate to have such wonderful bone structure. Although appreciate this is hardly what she would like to be remembered for - just a flippant compliment from me.

Sazisi · 01/05/2010 20:49

Unsisterly, I agree.

But then I think she looks lovely anyway.

purits · 01/05/2010 20:53

A bit late in the day, but can I join the paean to animula: fabulous post.
Why haven't we seen you on the feminism / women's rights section?

BoffinMum · 01/05/2010 21:06

Cornsilk, she is not just a wifey actually, SB had a PR business and then sold it, and can now afford to schlep around after hubbie looking helpful and devoted.

I am pleased other posters have mentioned Angela Merkel. She looks comfortingly like my mum and has a good, neat and tidy look for a politician IMO.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 01/05/2010 21:20

I'm enjoying the mental picture, Saweny - in a disturbing way
