please tell her to cover her knees.

(Sarah if you are lurking, please read.)

Yes, I know this is bitchy but I feel embarrassed for her; she does not have good legs and the dresses she has worn this week show too much knee, by at least 3 inches.

Who daren't tell her?

And her colours today- navy dress, black jacket(?) beige shoes and what looks like a white handbag.

I am avidly interested in the substance not just the style of politics, but please- these people have advisors and she was in PR- will someone please tell her?

Isn't it strange after all those tv debates and banging on about policies and budgets, if it's close run thing the deciding factor could possibly be who's got the best knees in a Hi-De-Hi sort of lovely legs competition

cornsilk · 01/05/2010 12:59

I reckon DC would have the best knees in the male event.

teta · 01/05/2010 13:00

I think the way she looks is probably not her first priority. Its probably very difficult being married to the PM. and she has kids-one with CF.So she will be doing the very best she can with her shape .I think the clothes she's worn recently have been nice and are promoting uk fashion.
I don't understand the level of vitriol on this forum about certain topics and a certain type of nastiness masquerading as humour.

Cogitoergosum · 01/05/2010 13:03

Back to GB wearing an eyepatch. I think it would make him more voteable. I quite like the idea of voting for a pirate.

What did that poster say? something along the lines of 'we're all cheating lying scumbags, so you might as well vote for the prettiest one'

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 01/05/2010 13:04

Aitch - I have to admit I was confused as I later read a post not appearing to be slagging her off but why post horrific as a link title if you didn't believe it?

Pretty good 1st round-up by the way.

Molesworth · 01/05/2010 13:05

I think there may have been a little sarcasm at work in those link titles

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 01/05/2010 13:08

Good

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 13:11

lol, the next one was aaaargh my eyes my eyes, fab.

Pavlov · 01/05/2010 13:16

I do enjoy reading bonsoir's posts. I like threads like this just for her input, people always get widgy

BridesheadRegardless · 01/05/2010 13:17

It is just down right unkind to put this personal criticism of her appearance on the internet in a place she may see it, and pretty shoddy to dress it up as well meant advice.

I would guess SB, like millions of other women, is vaguely unhappy with some aspects of her body, but has reached an age where she looks good but accepts that her knees/thights/tummy/arms whatever area she may be concerned about, we all have one, will never compete with carla Bruni, but she can live with this and just feels happy and condident in herself.

ffs, if she were wearing a crop top with rolls of fat hanging out then moodogs arguement of not inflicting your appearnace on others may stand, but to think that daring to show your quite normal knees means that you are lacking in intelligenec and cannot be taken seriously, is quite frankly deeply disturbing.

JackBauerIsZonerrific · 01/05/2010 13:24

I have a massive girl crush on animula now (to add to my one for aitch)

I am at those who say women int eh public eye havea duty to look good. Unbelievable.

HandsOffMyDrum · 01/05/2010 13:39

Can I just say I really like Sarah Brown.

But, I think anyone, man or woman who is appearing in an official capacity should look their very best. I don't mean they must look like Carla Bruni, just that they should look professional. Sometimes Sarah just doesn't.

moondog · 01/05/2010 13:40

Aitch, you moan about bitchy women but you are the one linking to vile DM articles. i don't get it.

moondog · 01/05/2010 13:47

And don't you hang around on that diet thread?
So presumably size and weight of knees must be an issue with/for you at some level?

traceybath · 01/05/2010 13:49

She needs a good stylist/personal shopper and a decent budget.

Then she'd be free to concentrate on more important stuff

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 14:14

you don't get what, moony? that i googled for images of sarah brown and the dm was the first link to come up? i didn't read the articles.

rather shocked to have to justify my presence on a diet thread just because i don't think that sarah brown should be ashamed of her imperfect knees, but for the record i got an invite to a wedding and wanted to wear a pre-kids frock rather than buy a new one so lost some weight. i'm really not clear as to relevance?

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 14:15

and i don#t think i did use the word bitchy, did i? i only dust that one down occasionally, and use it v specifically.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/05/2010 14:27

Sarah B is lovely. I doubt she'd give two hoots what people think of her tights or knees.

Bonsoir · 01/05/2010 15:15

Don't worry, I'll be fresh off morning school drop off, not an accompanying political spouse on a public outing

purplepeony · 01/05/2010 15:36

MrsS says Sarah B is lovely. I doubt she'd give two hoots what people think of her tights or knees. "

Are you that naive? Of course she cares- why else has she tried to give herself am ake-over in the last year and been plastered all over the papers for her "improved dress sense, hairstyle and make up."

I think it is very simple- as someone else said- if you have less than perfect body parts, and are in the public eye, then do us all a favour and dress according to your shape.

It's not being 45 that dictates hemlines- it's the shape of your legs.

Given that she doesn't go out of the house in joggers and a T shirt when she knows she is going tobe on TV etc., she obviously makes some effort- so why can't she just get it right?

teta · 01/05/2010 15:54

nice turn of phrase Bonsoir....

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 01/05/2010 15:57

Peony - do yourself a favour and stop worrying about Mrs Brown's knees. It's nice of you to care etc, but really, there are more important things going in the world than whether or not her tights match her shoes.

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 16:10

i LIKE her knees. i like seeing them, it makes me think fondly of her. i like that she is not neurotic and that she has, as someone rather winningly phrased it earlier, 'made peace with her knees'.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 01/05/2010 16:16

I agree. You get to an age when you actually start to like all your odd bits - it's very liberating

purplepeony · 01/05/2010 16:58

Aitch- you are loopy
You think fondly of her and her knees?

I think the truth is not that she has made peace with her knees, but that she has never looked in a full-length mirror and seen what the rest of us see.

And I am not worrying Maisie- bit patronising of you ...I am making a comment, not losing sleep over it.
