If anyone has access to or influence over Sarah Brown

please tell her to cover her knees.

(Sarah if you are lurking, please read.)

Yes, I know this is bitchy but I feel embarrassed for her; she does not have good legs and the dresses she has worn this week show too much knee, by at least 3 inches.

Who daren't tell her?

And her colours today- navy dress, black jacket(?) beige shoes and what looks like a white handbag.

I am avidly interested in the substance not just the style of politics, but please- these people have advisors and she was in PR- will someone please tell her?

of course we've all thought 'bad dress for her shape' about someone or whatever... what we probably wouldn't do is go on a board that we know for a fact that she uses and start a thread calling her out over it in such a nasty way. i really don't get why you did it, i mean really... 'if anyone has access to or influence over Sarah Brown...'

fwiw i think she's pretty cool for getting her pins out, precisely because they're not perfect. (and i also think the same of beyonce, who also has big knees) both women look good and make an effort with grooming and personal style, why should they be ashamed of themselves?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 01/05/2010 12:16

animula- I applaud everything you have said here. I have never noticed, nor do I care about SB's knees. I too have horrible knees, but that doesn't mean I am never going to wear a kaftan for the rest of my days!

I actually far far prefer women who are less well-groomed and have a few less-than-perfect features- they feel more real to me, more approachable, less conditioned to society's apparent demands on women. If looking good your sole purpose in life (like lots of celebrities/ models etc) then fine. But for intelligent women with a different agenda and role in life, I can't see why appearance should matter, tbh. If you were going for surgery, would you be aghast if your surgeon wasn't perfectly made up with nicely pedicured feet? I'd be more concerned with how she good she was at her job!

mangoandlime · 01/05/2010 12:17

PP, I think SB does care about how she looks, perhaps she is at peace with her knees.

I've looked at people and thought the wardrobe must have fallen on top of them that morning..what I don't do is tell them I thunk that!

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 12:18

lol yes, it's actually her ability to be at peace with her knees that makes me think quite fondly of her.

LynetteScavo · 01/05/2010 12:19

I need a link before I can judge properly.

So far the poor woman has bad feet, and bad knees.

What about her elbows, and heaven forbid...bingo wings?

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 12:20

horrific

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 12:21

aaaargh, my eyes my eyes

Molesworth · 01/05/2010 12:22

I do like her dress

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 12:23

the leopard one, yes, me too.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/05/2010 12:23

I might think it.

I wouldn't say it as I care only about her policies.

I think her knees are actually fine - they are way better than mine and I choose to get mine out occasionally knowing that people really only notice my smily face.

mangoandlime · 01/05/2010 12:23

Knees: what's the fuss about?!?
Black tights and beige shoes, however....

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 01/05/2010 12:24

Haven't noticed anything wrong with her dress sense or appearance. She comes across as a very capable, dignified, intelligent woman - to the extent that were she to stand, I'd vote for her.

I'm so glad we're not in France where there seems to be a very unhealthy interest in Mme Bruni Sarkozy and her frocks. How tedious.

electra · 01/05/2010 12:25

Who cares what her knees are like? She can wear what the hell she likes. Dear god...

electra · 01/05/2010 12:28

and for whoever it was who said that people have a 'duty' to cover 'bad' body parts - maybe you should do something to mask your ugly points of view?

mangoandlime · 01/05/2010 12:29

Yep, seems like a lovely, happy, friendly, intelligent woman. I would just hate to be scrutinised as she is. I retract my comment about her shoes and tights...What does it matter a jot.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 01/05/2010 12:30

That'll be the french bird wearing the tin foil helmet

MarineIguana · 01/05/2010 12:30

Ooh. I hadn't seen that dress tights & red wedges outfit before and I think she looks cool. (Having said it's irrelevant - which it is - but I like it because she looks as if she doesn't give a shit about the proper wifely attire IYSWIM)

BendyBob · 01/05/2010 12:35

'At 45 she ought to be covering them up and wearing her dresses a few inches longer' Christ I'm 45 and my knees have probably seen better days. Perhaps I ought to stay indoors or come out dressed as Queen Victoria.

Fwiw I too find 'electioneering with your wife' awful and phoney. I cringe to see that, not her knees.

MmeLindt · 01/05/2010 12:37

lol at her being at peace with her knees.

It is mean spirited to post this on a forum that she is known to browse occasionally. Although I would like to know how anyone can lurk and never post. Or is that just because I am so opinionated that I could not resist sharing my wisdom?

HandsOffMyDrum · 01/05/2010 12:38

She is a terrible dresser. Red wedges with black opaque tights! .

And skirts above the knee are not a professional look.

Harumph away, ladies!

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 12:38

i know a few people who just come on and GOGGLE at it all... like this

MarineIguana · 01/05/2010 12:39

Madame I thought the same when I first heard of "lurkers"! wtf? How can you not opine loudly when there's an option?

cornsilk · 01/05/2010 12:40

I like her dress in the 2nd link.

MadameCastafiore · 01/05/2010 12:40

Have never noticed her kness - well never really notice her - have always been too busy staring at her husband gurning away beside her!

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 12:41

i'm not so bothered about people taking issue with her sense of style, tbh, because that's her choice iykwim? up to her what she wears, but she can't do anything but hide her shameful knees according to purplepeony, anna and moondog.

i do like the way she dresses, though, she seems to have come a long way since that not particularly flattering blue suit she wore with michelle obama.
