Has anyone had Botox? Would you?

I am seriously considering it.

I do not have deep wrinkles as such, however I am as blind as a bat and have somehow got into the habit of frowning, both to see and in concentration.

I have seen myself on video conferencing (the invention of beelzebub) and I look Frowny Frownson of Frownington. I must look like a real sourpuss.

I have very dry skin and there are slight furrows on my forehead. I just want to stop it in its tracks.

I know this is very vain, but have had a look and it seems to be available for around £200. Am very tempted. Any advice?

Vain Twat

pagwatch · 21/04/2010 16:59

I got as far as having a consultation .
I don'tthink I ever had any intention of doing it but having a DH 7 years younger than me takes its toll.

As it goes we have a family history to problems with injections and I didn't fancy big lumps all over my face.
Alright. Any more big lumps all over my face.

cyb · 21/04/2010 16:59

Get orf I would love to have it if it lasted forever and was half the price

I cannot afford to maintain it and I dont want to look like Nicole Kidman aka the fruit bat

see? that woudl just be the end

maybe a face lift....

pagwatch · 21/04/2010 17:01

Getorf

get laser eye surgery and have a chemical peel. That will do the same thing and is permanent-ish

hellymelly · 21/04/2010 17:02

No I would not,no no no.I have deep frown lines as I frown a lot, frankly I think botox is insane. You lose your range of expression, its like losing half your speech, and you look freaky as you age with bits oddly smooth and other bits normal.I am as vain as the next person and I modelled when I was younger so there was a lot of focus on my face, but I would never mess with it.Yes Sharon Osborne looks good but she is about the only one.If Nicole Kidman and Madonna, with all the cash at their disposal and the best derms end up looking like waxworks then that should tell you something No?

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 21/04/2010 17:03

Am very tempted, but DH is very anti and whilst he wouldn't dream of telling me what to do I do feel I should take him into consideration.

pagwatch · 21/04/2010 17:06

Cindy Crawford looks alright..

brimfull · 21/04/2010 17:06

OMG at nicole kidman batface.

SpringyThingy · 21/04/2010 17:06

My friend had it done by a DOCTOR (not beautician which the cheaper ones are) and it paralysed 1/2 her face, slowly, no-one noticed it was happening until one day her daughter looked and said, mummy why is that side of your face lower than the other?

She did look like she'd had a stroke.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:08

Yes was thinking about laser eye surgery, however the frowning is an inrained habit now, and I tend also to frown a lot at night whilst driving because of ropy night vision (which laser surgery cannot guarantee curing).

My skin is ok at the moment I think - I was thinking of botox as preventing the smalle lines getting any worse.

I know it is all a load of vanity (yhanks Pagwatch ), and the telling thing is that I haven't mentioned this to DP at all, as I know he would be appalled. He is pretty no nonsense and would probably say 'stop bloody frowning then'.

OP posts:
Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 17:08

I would be too scared (although a chemical peel scares me more, pag).

Even Sharon Osborne doesn't look good on it anymore, IMO - I don't know if that's because having some just lures you into more and more radical stuff, or whether it is fundamentally unsustainable over a long period.

I have some deep wrinkles I worry about, but the flip side is that I think there is some deep sexist/ageist propaganda around at the moment

brimfull · 21/04/2010 17:09

bloody hell springythingy-that's a bit scary

apparently crystalclear dermobrasion is fab

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:10

Lol at the batface.

Yes there are some horrors aren't there. Thinking Kylie with overly arched brows.

Isn't that the result of years of botox combined with fillers etc?

Oh I just saw a pic of Candace Bushnell in the Sunday Times this weekend, she is old enough to be my mum and has got a completely line free forehead.

OP posts:
Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 17:10

See pag - I think Cindy Crawford looks a bit hollow-eyed. I suspect she doesn't look that great in the flesh.

Jennifer Aniston and Kylie are looking a bit pillow-faced now, as well - and they are around my age.

APassionateWoman · 21/04/2010 17:10

My friend had it. It has smoothed out her nose-to-mouth lines and brow lines competely. She looks very smooth and shiny!

I suppose she looks better, but she is 34. If she had that smooth brow and wrinkle free face at 40 I would just think 'You've had botox' not 'you look great, iyswim.

cyb · 21/04/2010 17:11

My mate has it done, and is addicted. Her eyebrows are turning Vulcanesque a la Dr Spock. As my eyebrows do err on theSide of Ming THe Merciless anyway I dont think I should

I do have more than a passing resemblence to this lady already and look what botox has done to her Mings

pagwatch · 21/04/2010 17:12

at Getorf
seriously. when i mentioned my frown lines to Dh his answer was ....'well just cheer up FFS'

jamie.
don't be a big jessie. They sound bad but it is just like a post sunburn peel if you do the mild one( apparently). The full on ones are a bit lairy - you end up looking like the Captain
Shall I get one and report back?

said · 21/04/2010 17:13

Way too scared of it going wrong and, having daughters, I'm not sure I'd like the message I'd be sending them. Sharon Osborne is starting to look a bit too stretched now.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:13

Lolol cyb.

Are you on laughatthesebotoxhorrors.com?

I am rather arched of brow as well, so I could end up looking rather Ming the Merciless/Pauline Flowler as well.

Oh well.

Perhaps it is back to the drawing board (and time to get a fringe, which I hate)

Dop any creams work? Or is it all boswellox?

OP posts:
Alouiseg · 21/04/2010 17:14

Do it! Then come back and report to us chickenshit scaredycats.

brimfull · 21/04/2010 17:14

has fiona had botox then??

I am hopeless at noticing these things

brimfull · 21/04/2010 17:16

I have no lines on my forehead - am 47
my mum is 75 and also no lines
tis genetic

I do have the number 11s between brows that I would love to get rid of

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:17

Pag - your DH and mine are from the same 'keep your chin up - it will all come out in the wash' school of platitudes then

I think DP would frown on my getting it - not from anything sinister like controlloing, or finances, or anything like that, but I think he would be worried that I felt so down about my appearance.

I don't think it's that bad - I just don't want to wake up in 5 years time to furrows between my eyes and looking permanently cross.
