Has anyone had Botox? Would you?

I am seriously considering it.

I do not have deep wrinkles as such, however I am as blind as a bat and have somehow got into the habit of frowning, both to see and in concentration.

I have seen myself on video conferencing (the invention of beelzebub) and I look Frowny Frownson of Frownington. I must look like a real sourpuss.

I have very dry skin and there are slight furrows on my forehead. I just want to stop it in its tracks.

I know this is very vain, but have had a look and it seems to be available for around £200. Am very tempted. Any advice?

As a cheap and safer alternative to fillers, how about these: www.feelunique.com/brands/frownies?pr=758&s_kwcid=TC%7c8090%7cfrownies%7c%7cS%7c%7c4533862659&gclid= CNLr3oWumKECFclr4wodBAw5NQ

They're called Frownies. A bit like the sellotape idea really. But shaped for the areas and don't lose their stickiness. Good because it also sort of retrains your muscles not to frown IYKWIM. I have used them for years. Does scare DP and bit when I come to bed with them on though!

I've just had it done. My friend has had it & looked fresher. 3 injections round each eye & 5 between the brows. Takes about 10-12 days to see the full effect.

DH think's it's quite amusing & said it looks like someone has shined my forehead, in that it's smooth (not shiny)

One of the injections she does around the eyes gives a little lift to the outer eyebrow, so I am looking a bit more awake, but in a more improved way (was looking a bit droopy there). I paid £150.

Ref the blood /brain comment, is there some more info because I had a quick google, but couldn't find anything ?

Iholdmyhandsup · 21/04/2010 19:15

my forehead does look a wee bit shiny - have to let up on the moisturiser

the dentist told me you need less each time as the none frowning kind of stops you trying to iyswim

cbt for wrinkles!

lovingthesun here and many more. Risk is thought to be extremely small if any, though, but it's still something to consider. This shows it can also cross through a placenta into a foetus if you become pregnant again which is more concerning.
It's still in its infancy, really, so I'd be wary

If it got in my brain, nobody would notice post childbirth Seriously thinking about it post boob job and tummy tuck...

I get my teeth whitened and it makes me look a lot younger when its done, maybe one to start with GetOrf?

Riven I consented to my DD having botox, too for cp/dystonic movements. I think the therapeutic benefits in those circumstances outweigh the risk, but when it is done for vanity's sake I think it's somewhat silly, knowing the risks.

Yes GetOrf I've heard teeth whitening makes people look much younger in an instant, maybe give it a go first

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/04/2010 08:49

Thanks for those links Crumpette - very sobering indeed. Real food for thought.

And there I am considering having this for frown reasons, when you and Riven have to make this decision on behalf of your daughters, knowing the risks that there may be. That is also very sobering and puts my whinging into perspective.

My colleague has had baby botox done, and it was very good - has just released the frown lines enough to make them much less obvious, but everything still moves, and the lines are still there. She has had a bit of filler too, but is very subtle, and it was only when I really looked, after asking her if she had had it done in the end that I noticed

diddl · 22/04/2010 09:21

I´m needle phobic so no chance for me!

HandsOffMyDrum · 22/04/2010 18:39

The thing with botox is it looks really odd close up. I have seen a lot of botoxed faces!

NotanOtter · 22/04/2010 20:46

i dont think it looks odd - only inxs

Ronaldinhio · 22/04/2010 20:51

I've had it and fillers and it was worth every penny
Pay to have a cosmetic surgeon do it as imo you really do get what you pay for...it will be about £250 from someone who will give you and excellent result that only you would know about

Jamieandhismagictorch · 22/04/2010 21:51

Ronaldhinhio - please tell me about fillers ("fill me in", as it were). Suitable for the lines radiating out from the lips ?
