Has anyone had Botox? Would you?

I am seriously considering it.

I do not have deep wrinkles as such, however I am as blind as a bat and have somehow got into the habit of frowning, both to see and in concentration.

I have seen myself on video conferencing (the invention of beelzebub) and I look Frowny Frownson of Frownington. I must look like a real sourpuss.

I have very dry skin and there are slight furrows on my forehead. I just want to stop it in its tracks.

I know this is very vain, but have had a look and it seems to be available for around £200. Am very tempted. Any advice?

pag - do it! How will you hide on the school run though ?

I'm half way through laser hair removal for my lush beard and 'tach combo, and that scares me enough (no problems at all with it, though), but I can see how one might get sucked in, because NOW i'm noticing my upper lip lines, which make me look like I smoke 40 a day.

Botox crosses the blood-brain barrier, no long term health effects are known as such yet. Still too risky, I think, so I personally wouldn't.

Creams containing retinol or vitamin A are the only ones proven to have a real effect on wrinkles

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 17:19

ggirl - basically, anyone with no lines has had it

cyb · 21/04/2010 17:21

yes you physically cannot get to 35+ without some aging of the skin unless you are ggirl

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:21

Perhaps I should do it and be the MN experiment.

Could post up before and after pics for you to take the piss mercielessly analyse.

Second thoughts, don't think self esteem could cope.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 17:21

BTW - you know I'm exaggerating for comic effect, don't you? I'm not THAT ugly ....

crumpette · 21/04/2010 17:22

or if you have lines you could have dermal fillers but again these are expensive and wear off, but do fill the line without paralysing your face

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:24

DP just got in.

DP: 'what are you talking about'
me: 'Botox'
DP: 'Oh don't be so bloody vain there's nowt wrong wi' yer' (for some reason said in yorkshire accent - he is not northern)

Pause

DP: 'are you bloody typing that up telling mumsnet, they will think I am a caveman'

My mum is 69 and has got really great skin. She could pass for 50. But even 50 looks too old for some of these celebs. They want to look 30.

Don't want to rant on, but I am conflicted about the whole thing.

GetOrf I will glady point and stare analyse your before and afters

alarkaspree · 21/04/2010 17:25

Apparently if you put sellotape on your forehead overnight it stops you from frowning and it will get better.

Your dhes would love me wouldn't they?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 17:25

Funny Getorf. Whenever I'm on MN DH asks me if I'm telling you what a big willy he's got .....

crumpette · 21/04/2010 17:26

try this

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/04/2010 17:26

lol at sellotape.

What with me wearing sellotape and DP wearing those snore strips, how the passion in our relationship remains!!

Right, off now to look in mirror cook dinner.

Thanks everyone

Jamie

I will hire someone to do the school run for me.
Or do the school run as me.

Hang on. If I hire someone younger than me I could just get them to be me permanently. Then I could buy clothes with shorter hems for faux Pagwatch tpo wear. She could be a virtual me She could swan around looking all glamourous and tell people she is me. Like my cleaner did..

cyb · 21/04/2010 17:29

My mum has a face like a grey bag of conkers. I dont hold out much hope for me

pagwatch · 21/04/2010 17:30

LOL at Getorfs non-Northern Yorkshire DH.

My DH says helpful things like " oh don't. There isn't much point is there .."

YY jamie. You are gorgeous.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 17:30

pagwatch · 21/04/2010 17:32

I don't know now Jamie [too confused to think]

I wouldn't mind getting a knee lift. Do they do that.
I could get them to start with a knee lift and if it goes well, just keep working up

Revupk · 21/04/2010 17:33

I did a version called baby botox when I was 38. They inject half the amount of the normal dose so that the frozen effect is not there. It was great - no one noticed i had botox but a couple of people said i looked great and got lots of compliments. It lasted about 6 months and I was line free for about a year.

noddyholder · 21/04/2010 17:39

I have lots of lines on forehead and none anywhere else PITA Micropore tape overnight works or a fringe

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/04/2010 17:44

thanks for those recommendations crumpette

BitOfFun · 21/04/2010 17:46

I've had it twice in the last five years (bit pricey to keep it up), but I can admit on here to being a little bit vain. Or at least too chicken to get old. I don't care so much now though. And I have a relentlesslessly practical DP who I would be embarrassed to confess it to

It was very good, and lasted about six months. I am sorely tempted to do it again when I next have some money. I have laughter lines which I don't mind in the least- it is just the grumpy-looking lines I'm not keen on.
