What foundation do you use and what age are you?

I know there are loads of threads re foundations but I don't think I've seen any with ages attached! I'm curious really ... is a 40-something (me!) too old for Bobbi Brown (although I did try their foundation years ago and didn't like it). In the last few years I've gone through Laura Mercier, Chanel Vitaluminiere, Giorgio Armani, Guerlain and now Chantecaille Future Skin. The Armani is definitely my favourite but at £55 and with postage on top, being on maternity leave/career break etc, it was just too expensive. Yes, the Chantecaille is just as pricey but I don't like it as much.

So humour me please ... some foundations linked by age!!

None on a day-to-day basis. I have got some Virgin Vie minerals powder, which I put on if I am going out in the evening (once in a blue moon). It's nice as I have sensitive skin and it is very light, so tends not to affect me (slight itchiness, but no rash). Takes the shine away! I am 36.

NomDePlume · 05/04/2010 11:47

28

For full foundation I use Christian Dior Diorskin Pure Light liquid foundation. It's about £30 ish.

For lighter coverage I use Benefit You Rebel Lite tinted moisturiser, the normal one is too orangey/dark for me.

Vitalumiere made me look sweaty/clammy faced

I'm 43 and have recently swapped to DiorSkin Nude but am now very disappointed as it doesn't give enough coverage. I am using up the last drops of of Estee Lauder Doublewear which really does have excellent staying power and coverage. My only problem with it is that I just don't seem to quite match any of the colours .

kellze · 05/04/2010 12:22

I am 31 yo and use Max Factor second skin. I am having a bit of trouble blending it atm but not sure if it because I am 41 weeks pregnant and can't be bothered. Earlier in pregnancy, I was incredibly happy with it.

SixtyFootDoll · 05/04/2010 12:24

I am 38 with oily skin
I have 'red' toned skin
I use LillyLolo ' in the buff'
I like it as it looks like I dont have make up on , but gives me good even coverage.

I would like a bit more coverage for evening time, might try the matlumiere?

horridhobo · 05/04/2010 12:41

I am 50 and use Clarins Instant Smooth foundation - lovely. Goes on like a mousse but gives good, natural coverage. I used to use Estee Lauder Double Wear but it really did set on my face like concrete and made me look even older than I already am.

cocolepew · 05/04/2010 12:46

41, I've been using Maybellines Liquid minerals for a while but atm am using Avons Magix foundation, it's lovely .

AuntieMaggie · 05/04/2010 12:59

Used to use clinique moisturiser but lately have switched to Avon's Anew Reversalist Renewal moisturiser, serum and eye cream. It's aimed at women in their 40's, but I love it and I'm 33.

I also like their everlasting foundation - haven't tried the magix one but will give it a go.

In the past I've tried lancome, clinique, dior, etc, etc but begrude paying for something that loses it's charm after a while. Though I use chanel doule wear light for nights out.

kdk · 05/04/2010 14:44

Another vote for Clarins but as skint atm am trying this for everyday and am still using up this which I use on special occasions or when I need more coverage.

brimfull · 05/04/2010 14:51

47- clarins instant smooth or lancome ideal

brimfull · 05/04/2010 14:52

I am thinking of getting my red veiny face microwaved then I won't need foundation so much.
Saw a woman getting it done on Embarrassing Bodies.

Heavens, haven't been back since last night and so many more posts!

Okay ... there isn't a link between foundation and age really, is there? Think I shall look at the Dior Nude, Chanel Matlumiere & Lancome. Estee Lauder & Clarins - I'm not just sure about their shades. Bobbi B ... used to use the oil-free I think but didn't find the coverage good enough.

Also ... does anyone really just apply foundation where it's needed per beauty advice and not to entire face? If I did that I'd look extremely scarey and patchy ... I don't have bad skin - even skintone, gets a bit dry in winter months, can get a bit oily around my t-zone, can't get rid of blackheads and even at 42 still get the odd spot! I am really really bad at cleansing ... my bathroom cabinet houses Liz Earle cleanse & polish, toner, a night cream, an eye cream and a daytime moisturiser. I wash with a facecloth at night, tone and moisturise in the morning and that's it. I'm lazy!

Ourlady
I use Origins products which state on the back that they are tested on volunteers not animals.
They have just brought out Youthtopia foundation (already have Youthtopia eyecream and its lovely) I asked for a sample and they put some in a little pot for me to try.
Its lovely, nice texture and moisturising but not oily.

Also use Clarins Instant smooth and Adaptive one for Oily /premenstrual days

Millie1 · 05/04/2010 16:47

Oh, and thinking some more ... I want a flawless look. It must be perfect! And it must stay on all day. Actually, that's why I was thinking of B/Brown ... they have started doing a handbag size foundation for touchups.

Yes apply it all over - I use a sponge which means you do wast some as the sponge absorbs it but can build it up heavier where you need it.

minibmw2010 · 05/04/2010 21:28

I use Bare Minerals (also called Bare Escentuals), I really like it. My skin looks great in photos too since I've started to use it.

wubblybubbly · 05/04/2010 21:43

41, slightly oily forehead, nose, large pores and the beginnings of wrinkles and I can't find anything that suits me. Everything is orange!

I used to use Helena Rubenstein Spectacular but they've stopped selling in the UK and quite honestly I'm sick of wasting money on stuff that makes me look like a greasy, tangoed raisin.

Hulababy · 05/04/2010 21:48

I am 37y with normal skin. I use Virgin Vie or whatever they are called now) one step face base. I use a concealer nder my eyes.
