What foundation do you use and what age are you?

I know there are loads of threads re foundations but I don't think I've seen any with ages attached! I'm curious really ... is a 40-something (me!) too old for Bobbi Brown (although I did try their foundation years ago and didn't like it). In the last few years I've gone through Laura Mercier, Chanel Vitaluminiere, Giorgio Armani, Guerlain and now Chantecaille Future Skin. The Armani is definitely my favourite but at £55 and with postage on top, being on maternity leave/career break etc, it was just too expensive. Yes, the Chantecaille is just as pricey but I don't like it as much.

So humour me please ... some foundations linked by age!!

Millie1 - I had the same problem with Vitalumiere. It gave me terrible spots. That said, all Chanel foundations do.

The coverage on the Dior is quite light (which I prefer) but it covers well and I've been told that I look "the most attractive I've ever seen you" by someone who pays close attention...

janeite · 04/04/2010 21:56

I went to look at Chanel a few weeks ago but the woman was so rude that I told her I had no intention of buying anything from her. Grrr.

Bumperliciouzzzzzz · 04/04/2010 22:04

29 and I use Clinique Almost Make-up, suits me fine, and I find I actually don't look better in foundation, thanks purple, but I do need a spot of tinted moisturiser sometimes.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 04/04/2010 22:05

Was Perscriptives (RIP )

Now Bobbi Brown. A nice mositurising one... and apparently anti-aging. I am 28

tethersend · 04/04/2010 22:06

isthatporridgeinyourzone, I have dry skin (with an oily nose) which can flake and I was very sceptical, but it's great and I've noticed my skin is in much better condition since I started using it.

I thought it would be really powdery, but it's not.

Millie1 · 04/04/2010 22:10

BDSM ... what a lovely compliment! Thinking back, apart from the feeling of oiliness with Vitalumiere, I'm convinced the lady sold me a colour which was too pale ... think I looked rather ghost-like for months!

I'm 33. I use a tinted mouisturiser by Lancome which is SPF 15.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 04/04/2010 22:13

Tethersend - we have the same skin! Will try bare minerals.

Arf at janeite - know how you feel.

Cadelaide · 04/04/2010 22:14

Interesting Millie, I didn't get on with Vitalumiere and I think I was sold a shade too dark.

I'm between foundations atm, falling back on Olay tinted moisturiser which is ok-ish, and I'm tempted to try the Dior nude one.

45, btw

tethersend · 04/04/2010 22:14

We are skin twins isthatporridgeinyourzone - or skwins

crumblequeen · 04/04/2010 22:15

29 and use Max Factor miracle touch applied with a brush.

Similar to MAC studio tech which I used to use but now too expensive after giving up work!

juneybean · 04/04/2010 22:16

24 - loreal infallible

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 04/04/2010 22:17
  • out of interest which moisturiser do you use? I'm a complete moisturiser tart -I can never find one I like.
janeite · 04/04/2010 22:23

I have just bought a foundation brush - but I seem to use loads more foundation when using the brush. Am I doing it wrong?

Cadelaide · 04/04/2010 22:25

hmm, me too janeite. It just seems like the brush gets more and more loaded doesn't it?

tethersend · 04/04/2010 22:33

I was using the clarins one for sensitive skin, but I ran out and am now using my DD's Johnsons baby moisturising cream. Can't really tell the difference TBH.

I'm like you, I can't seem to find one that does the job.

Elemental · 04/04/2010 22:35

Have tried lots of foundations over the years, and always go back to the solid powder-foundation types which seem to work much better with my skin. Always had oily skin and most liquid foundations make my skin feel tacky a couple of hours later. I love Max Factor facefinity for this reason, find it a nice cover up and dead quick to use.

Elemental · 04/04/2010 22:36

Am 35 btw

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 04/04/2010 22:42

Definately skwins - have tried EVERYTHING (apart from Creme de la Mer!). Am using Nivea Repair and Relief balm atm which at least keeps a lid on occasional flakiness.

tethersend · 04/04/2010 23:28

We're gonna have to go halves on Creme de la Mer, only to discover that Lurpack actually has the same effect

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/04/2010 08:52

On the moisturiser front, I've tried everything and nearly all of it gives me spots except for Clinique and some gentle Lancome ones. I was clearing out the bathroom yesterday (two carrier bags full of products I will never use again) and I found some Nivea stuff with vitamin C in it. I remembered I used to really like it but was a bit sniffy about it being Nivea . Anyway, I tried it yesterday and it's great. Will be getting a new as heaven knows what's grown in the old while it's been festering in my drawers (if you'll pardon the expression).

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 05/04/2010 09:13

Arf at Belle's festering drawers.

ThisCharmingFlan · 05/04/2010 09:30

oh no has Prescriptives gone?!

I was gearing myself up to get some as I find it impossible to get a shade that matches my skin - as Janeite said they're all too pinky - I'm very sallow pale olive

FWIW I'm 32 and ATM use Max Factor Seamless in the lightest shade.

giveitago · 05/04/2010 11:41

I'm almost 42 and have never bothered with foundation partly as I have a very yellow skin tone that only recently mac caters for.

I don't look my age but I'd look older with foundation BUT LOOK MORE GROOMED WITH ESTEE LAUDER TINTED MOISTURISer - can't remember what it's called but it's an sp factor great moisturiser with tint - one tint for ANY SKIN COLOUR it adapts - I still have an oily t-zone but it deals with that and my drier skin too. I think it's fab and propbably the only product that I by over and over again.
