Mine are:

Ankle boots do not go with everything! In fact they go with very little.

Denim skirts are always wrong.

I would be surprised if it were the first, Cecily

However, afai can see, there is pretty much a universal bashing of all classes of bad dress on this particular thread.

StuffedFullOfNothing · 31/03/2010 14:21

Cecily, this thread was started to bash ALL classes. The ankle boots with everything look that inspired me to start this thread is very much favoured by the middle classes.

Bitchy, yes guilty as charged. Snobbish, I like to think not.

no top to toe linen (especially if you are over 40)

clean your shoes!!!

SweetCecilyisasecretcrackwhore · 31/03/2010 14:39

Oh Im all for a bit of bashing whoever they are - not been on MN for a while!

Im adding unwashed hair to the list.

Scraped back greasy ponytails are vile

DrNortherner · 31/03/2010 14:46

I have to defend vest tops with bra straps showing - looks nice if bra is nice. And I wear baseball caps oaccssionally too, especially if working out in the rain.

Anyway, my law would ban:

CROCS on adults
Shapeless 'man cut' jeans on women
Low rise jeans displaying muffin tops
Black leggings and uggs unless you are under 18
ALL Denim skirts
Cords
Dungarees
Anything from Monsoon, Per Una and most of the NEXT store

SheWillBeLoved · 31/03/2010 14:48

Tassles. Particularly knee high boots covered in studs and tassles, purple tights, a black and white leopard print top and a short padded puffa jacket as witnessed this morning.

DrNortherner · 31/03/2010 14:50

And velvet is always always WRONG.

cyteen · 31/03/2010 15:00

Once a week, every adult man and woman in Britain must wear a hat.

sorky · 31/03/2010 15:02

I don't care what anyone wears as long as it's clean, they have had a wash and the clothes they wear actually fit them.
I'm seeing more men with badly fitting clothes recently.

In general my rules would be:

Excess flesh should always be contained, regardless of size, age or gender!
No one should be able to smell BO, chip fat or cigarette smoke on you.

cyteen · 31/03/2010 15:04

No shoes with those round-the-ankle straps; they are so incredibly unflattering, on everyone.

Ditto tasselled loafers

I'd like to see more young women using make up in a way that actually suits and enhances their features, rather than just doing an identikit look. There are so many girls in my town with gorgeous faces that just don't suit the blonde straight hair/orange fake tan/harsh eyeliner mode.

StuffedFullOfNothing · 31/03/2010 15:06

I saw a girl today whose face was actually bright pink from some horrific fake tan/bloody awful makeup combo.

OP posts:
SheWillBeLoved · 31/03/2010 15:28

The make up thing is awful, some young girls round here look like they have taken a wet brush, dipped it in a pot of bright pink blush, and ran it along their cheekbone. Horrendous.

darkandstormy · 31/03/2010 17:34

boot polish black dyed hair/orange face look.Katie price style.Rich chocolate tones/natural skin tone ,much classier.

sorky · 31/03/2010 17:40

You know, I've noticed the big blusher thing more recently too.

Why? Where has that come from, they look permanently embarrassed! Perhaps it's the eighties thing....

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 31/03/2010 17:57

I'm in the "as long as it fits and is clean" camp mostly, but I really would like to take the following aside and have a word:

a) women who wear wide leg or boot cut trousers with high, block-heel (usually uniform-black) boots and whose trousers barely reach their ankles) - your bum looks bigger and legs shorter with this combo, you aren't doing yourself any favours. Also this "look" is about 12 years out of date. Even trainers would be better.

b) men who wear wide 3/4 length trousers - you are not a toddler but you sure as heck look like one.

IngridFletcher · 31/03/2010 18:12

Can I see your Ugg boot and raise you an Ugg Fluffie.....

saw these today

Oooh yeah that black hair is scary looking. Katy Price has a lot to answer for on this list

LadyBiscuit · 31/03/2010 18:43

Hairspray. Unless you have a beehive or mohican, hair that doesn't move is wrong.

Jeggings should not be worn by anyone unless the first number of their age is 1.

Collars turned up on shirts are wrong

Lots and lots of gold just makes you look ripe for mugging

Orange skin - no!

mummee09v · 31/03/2010 19:43

omg those ugg flip flip flops..... ...utterly minging

i do like uggs. and i do like flip flops. but not a combination! jeez!! who thought THAT one up ...??

mummee09v · 31/03/2010 19:44

oh and can anyone tell me what is wrong with denim skirts please...?

Cabatach · 31/03/2010 20:21

Yes, I was going to start a thread asking what is wrong with denim skirts??!!

mummee09v · 31/03/2010 20:30

haha glad it isnt just me then

Cabatach · 31/03/2010 20:37

Please can someone enlighten me on what is wrong with them?!! I have a couple of them (one above the knee but not too short and two longer ones) and wear them with all kinds of different tops, jackets, shoes and boots. I think they are a wardrobe staple!

StuffedFullOfNothing · 31/03/2010 21:07
