Mine are:

Ankle boots do not go with everything! In fact they go with very little.

Denim skirts are always wrong.

OP posts:
slug · 30/03/2010 16:20

anything on this list

plantwoman · 30/03/2010 16:53

slightly too short wide leg work style trousers over heeled boots.
personal dislike of mine...I don't even wear smart clothes to work but seem to see lost of office workers sporting this particular look round here and it just bugs me!.
Either wear your trousers with flat shoes or buy them long enough to cover your boots properly...

southeastastra · 30/03/2010 16:55

skin tight trousers and high stiletto knee high boots are not a good look on anyone

bibbitybobbityhat · 30/03/2010 17:01

Nice to see you Ronaldinho .

BecauseImWoeufIt · 30/03/2010 17:07

LOL slug!

southeastastra · 30/03/2010 17:11

omg slug! number 15 actually has back boobs

wahwah · 31/03/2010 00:21

Don't be scared of double denim. If worried choose a nice chambray top for the DD feel without the fear.
It's working for me right now with skinnies and the best jeans around ( Zara high waist flares for £40. They make my arse feel and look like I'm 15 again and I
shan't post them, but have photos to prove it!)

Chandon · 31/03/2010 07:57

I don´t like the way some posters just seem to vent against a certain style of people (older, overweight or too skinny), or saying that only teens with washboard stomach can wear certain trends.

How brainwashed ARE you by the media???!!

Bonsoir · 31/03/2010 07:58

Not wanting to be forced to see other people's unkempt bare flesh is hardly being brainwashed by the media...

Agree Riven, I don't really want to see other women's yucky bits, but I am also a bit impressed with the freedom with which some women bare all and feel the confidence to do so.

I worked with someone who was about a size 24 and dressed like a skinny teenager. She thought she looked great and she shouldn't have, but she did! Taught me to stop worrying.

vesela · 31/03/2010 09:26

Re. fleeces - I don't think you have to literally be on the fells to wear them, as long as you look overall like you're walking/sailing/camping/gardening. I'd only have the law against fleeces with e.g. black smart boots.

MarthaFarquhar · 31/03/2010 09:30

black shoes are only to be worn with black/dark grey skirts and trews

do not wear them with your floaty little wedding florals.

trice · 31/03/2010 09:49

I would say dress with confidence and to show your personality. Don't listen to other peoples "rules" as a lot of them are about reinforcing social class differences. (eg. don't dress like a chav in fake uggs and cheap ill fitting clothes or sportswear)

I would second the "look in the mirror before you go out" just make sure you like what you see, if you are a bit different that is good.

vesela · 31/03/2010 10:01

If you need to buy clothes that might have been made in a sweatshop, then at least don't get ones that look like they involved a lot of work.

brimfull · 31/03/2010 10:04

omg

niminypiminy · 31/03/2010 10:21

Polo shirts with the collar turned up (and especially if said polo shirt is pastel pink or blue).

Particularly if worn with a string of pearls.

Particularly particularly if the pearls are outside the collar of the shirt.

Particularly particularly particularly if the look is then teamed with a green quilted bodywarmer.

Actually, any shirts with the collars turned up are evil.

mummee09v · 31/03/2010 11:06

hahaha -guilty of wearing hotpants with uggs in summer- ....cut off denim ones

and denim skirts

minxofmancunia · 31/03/2010 11:25

sports wear for sports only people

fleeces just for outdoor pursuits (climbing hiking etc.)

If it says Berghaus/helly hansen/north face on it do not wear it as "fashion"

Tops over leggings must come past Bum AT LEAST, and please never ever sit legs akimbo with leggings on, this is a crime I've witnessed often in ladies of a certain age and size (over 45 +size)

no high/polo necks with anything above a d cup, your boobs look like a shelf (speaking as one who knows since increase in norkage since having dcs,was c cup now an e cup).

double denim will forever be wrong, ditto batwings ditto legwarmers.

no black bra under white/light tops.

different colour lip liner to lipstick

bronzer and fake tan can go very wrong very often.

101handbags · 31/03/2010 11:27

Any type of American tan tights or even tights that claim to be 'invisible' or 'skin coloured' - no such thing.

Flesh coloured underwear only under white linen skirts/trousers or any white bottoms.

Dont' like seeing bumps from lacy bras under tight tops - wear a smooth cupped bra.

Get a bra that fits - no 4 norked norks.

Work out what suits your figure, don't just wear something as it's 'in fashion'.

As you get older, quality matters more than quantity.

LadyBlaBlah · 31/03/2010 11:35

Things to ban are:

vest tops worn with bra straps showing

visible tats

Those suede brown/grey clark's type flat hiking-like shoes that busy mums wear, generally with 3/4 length combats

Skinny jeans on nowhere near skinny folk

Jeans that have no shape that are pulled up a little bit too high worn with a faux brown leather belt and a supermarket t shirt, generally slightly ribbed and pastel

LadyBlaBlah · 31/03/2010 11:37

Oh and Pandora bracelets

I cannot bear the mindless endless conversations about charms.

They are far from charming

ThisCharmingFlan · 31/03/2010 11:54

may I reveal the answer to the making-sure-your-arse-is-covered-in-leggings-issue

wear these with a long top anyway yet safe in the knowledge that if it rides up you're preserved from camel toe and VPL horror. Hurrah.

SweetCecilyisasecretcrackwhore · 31/03/2010 13:30

Is this the first chav slaying thread for spring?...

venusonarockbun · 31/03/2010 13:50

Uggs (slippers) to be worn indoors only. They are not not not suitable for outdoors.

I agree with Lady about those bracelets. They are sooooooo original aren't they!!!

Jeggings should be actual denim type of material (not that denim-look stuff).

Headbands on baby girls
