I currently use Virgin Vie's Face Base in Ivory but my skin has gone bonkers lately (a combination of spots and dryness) and it just looks awful.

Can anyone recommend a good face base, preferably something easy to apply. Not too greasy but not too powdery either. I plan to plonk around the shop (and am at Heathrow on Saturday so could have a look in Duty Free) but would like some recommendations to start with please.

Thank you!

I got some of this by terry following a recommendation on here. I had a 20% off code at the time. Shit name, stupid price, fantastic product. Lasts for three times as long as Chanel Vit.

brimfull · 24/03/2010 06:54

clarins instant smooth
or lancome ideal

both good for combination skain

chanel vital slides off my face

BariatricObama · 24/03/2010 11:11

moneyspider - they saw you coming!

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/03/2010 11:19

Moneyspider - I recommended that on here! Did you see my recommendation.

Ooh I should be on commission as well!

Yes it is a ridiculously expensive product however the texture and coverage is amazing - I am not kidding. Makes my skin look flawless.

By Terry make up (called by some wags on here Terry and June make up is excellent - the Touche Eclat under eye concealer Touche Velouté is far better than the YSL one.

I am ridiculously pleased that someone else thinks Eclat Opulent is as good as I do. It only comes in one colour which adjusts to your skin.

Can't used Vitalumiere - the colour is all wrong, too yellow and not pale enough. Anotehr one which is good is Lancome Photogenic Lumninescence, which I use for day light coverage sometimes.

Moneyspider · 24/03/2010 11:37

Yes, yes it was you! I have pinky pale skin so it's great. I tried it on my mum and sister (I know, bit twatty) and it adjusted to them too. Belated thanks from me!

Barbabelle · 24/03/2010 11:41

jane iredale liquid minerals in amber. I've used it for a couple of years now - keep repurchasing (from an e-bay store) and wouldn't bother with anything else. Before this discovery I used lancome, chanel, laura mercier etc which were fine but never liked them enough to keep buying.

I just rub it on over a bit of rosehip oil and it looks v natural and glowy. On the rare occasions I venture out after dark I apply it a bit more heavily and it really evens out my skin tone and lasts all night.

sliceofcake · 24/03/2010 11:44

chanel lift lumiere for me, evens out skin tone, and stays put, but nice and dewy, not cakey

Moneyspider · 24/03/2010 11:52

Yeah BO? Well, did I mention that it also makes the tea? Twinings, an' all.

BariatricObama · 24/03/2010 11:59

lol, how long does it last? do you wear it everyday?

mosschops30 · 24/03/2010 12:04

The new Clarins one is lovely, think its called Everlasting or something.
It has a SPF in it and is so light, it makes my skin feel like velvet and i love it. Lots of people have commented on how good it looks.
I love Clarins foundations have used them for years and would never change to anything else

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/03/2010 12:10

I am so pleased that you liked it moneyspider. WQhere did you get the 20% off voucher?

BA I find it lasts a long time, I usually spend a good portion oif the day with my head in my hands in despair, other foundations rub off but the Eclat stays on. I do use a primer as well though (Loreal Professionals one).

wifyhome · 24/03/2010 13:44

Touche Velouté sounds good!

Sidge · 24/03/2010 17:15

95 pounds

I'd want a new face for that

Thanks for all the recommendations, budget doesn't quite stretch as far as Terry's but will check out the Chanel on Saturday.

I've just got the new Boots No7 luminating one and can recommend it. If you like Chanel Vitalumiere it is similar

nowwhatdoido · 25/03/2010 19:07

I just bought some Chanel Matte lumiere today, as I have quite oily skin. Will report back tommorrow.

mummee09v · 25/03/2010 21:56

christian dior - nude.

its amazing.

Romanarama · 25/03/2010 22:03

bareMinerals. I have terrible skin but I look like a supermodel now. It's straight from heaven.

jujubean · 25/03/2010 22:48

Chanel Vit, I hate foundation but its really light for when I do have to wear it. Apply with fingers and blot face with a tissue after.

WilfSell · 25/03/2010 22:54

Martha, I have white and I mean VERY white skin and I managed to find the lightest Chanel Vitalumiere there is - hang on I'll go and look for its name/number...

...OK it is shade number 10 - Limpide/Nude

Works really well on my skin. It is a touch yellow toned but deffo not olive. It was quite hard to track down though (I think I bought it online in the end...)

I want to try some mineral makeup now.

jen45 · 26/03/2010 02:15

Estee Lauder Double wear is great...I had dry flaky skin with oily patches and this does not make either worse at all..It covers all my imperfections without being heavy. I would suggest you go and try a sample because its £24.00 but it is worth it if suits your skin.

MarthaFarquhar · 26/03/2010 08:34

Wilf I think it's the pinky/pale combo that Chanel don't do well. I'm sure I tried on several that looked innocuously pale, but turned out to make me look a bit like a toad. Shame cos the texture is lovely.

Bucharest · 26/03/2010 08:42

Clarins Instant Smooth.
Will never try anything else now as long as they continue to make it.

nowwhatdoido · 26/03/2010 10:23

Mmh, have tried the mat lumiere. Not great. The coverage is rubbish, and I am still a grease ball. What next?

brimfull · 27/03/2010 21:58

Ok tried BY Terry Eclat Opulent today in spacenk. Told the woman I had heard great things about it and she took all my makeupoff an applied some.
It does look very very good-but way too £££ for me. I did tell her I wouldn't be buying it, which is why she probably left me without any blush on

dd was with me and is cruelly honest about these things. Initially she said wow, then hmm it looks a bit 'made up' but then actually said it was really natural and it was the fact I didn't have any blush on that was a bit weird.

don't know whether I could ever pay that much for it though.
