Don't care.

Does that help?

pointysaysrelax · 19/01/2010 20:37

dd1 was surpised the other day when I said, no it is not the case that brighter kids do history and others do geography. that is just something to do with geography teachers

PR teachers don't count. In any way

Lucycat · 19/01/2010 20:45

oy I teach Geography - don't tar us all with the same elbow patches!

thatsnotmymonkey · 19/01/2010 20:48

denim is a no no. I am a schools advisor and work for the LEA. I would never dress down in denim to visit a school. I almost always wear something with a collar- a shirt or a suited jacket. Today I wore black pencil skirt with interesting pleating to the front, breton stripped l/s top, Black 3/4 sleeve blazer thing, purple tights, black pixie boots. Tres chic.
That white stuff skirt is hidiac

RocheMoutonee · 19/01/2010 20:50

but advisers always overdress wear suits

Wastwinsetandpearls · 19/01/2010 20:51

I feel the need to defend Geography here, our Geographers are all very good teachers and very able pupils choose and do well in the subject.

Lucycat · 19/01/2010 20:51

oh yes we do at AS level and GCSE for that matter!
I love it - Geography is the most relevant subject in the school curriculum - we respond to world events and can connect with the kids in the 'real' world.

Lovin' the name btw.

sorry if there's any typos - tryin to watch the footy too.

RocheMoutonee · 19/01/2010 20:52

god one turned up to ours in a WHITE SUIT ffs

and then next time in a jaunty neckerchief - all she needed was some driving gloved and GOk would have been proud

TigersChick · 19/01/2010 20:54

When I worked fulltime denim was a strict no-no; I got ticked off for wearing a denim-style shirt (not as bad as it sounds ) This was in a primary with uniform for the children.

I have since worked in around 25-30 schools in 6 different towns ... the vast majority say no to denim.

I don't think that what you wear affects your ability to teach but I do think that it contributes to the atmotsphere you create in the classroom.

thatsnotmymonkey · 19/01/2010 20:57

Ha, no I would not wear a white suit. That is also hidiac.
rouchemoutonee, I do not overdress! I look nice, like I have made the effort. I am a visitor and like to show the school some respect.

Besides I am a terrible clothes hoarder and love to shop. Being back at work is my only outlet to dress nicely ,

janeite · 19/01/2010 21:13

One of the most stylish women I know is a Geography teacher.

I am an English teacher and most certainly do not wear Per Una! Today I wore: black fishtail skirt, Wolford lacy tights, Mary Janes, black top with tie detail - tomorrow I will try not to wear black!

The pupils occasionally comment -
I have an Alice in Wonderland inspired necklace that the year 10 girls like and an initial that one girl always wants to steal. They also quite like coloured tights for some reason! And a fairytale inspired skirt I wear, with pictures all around the bottom. The boys comment if I wear a jacket (especially one lined with purple silk and cartoon pictures) or something that isn't black!

pointysaysrelax · 19/01/2010 22:22

hello lucycat and welcome to the thread. You even post like a geography teacher

Stop trying to defend them, all you wets.

School advisers have a tendency to look like a cross between aunt spiker and an air hostess

In my younger and slimmer days I had a white suit, I lived in fear of starting my period in front of 9 set 3. I could only wear it for about five days a month.

I have done the jaunty neck chief as well

My own pupils love my coloured tights with clashing shoes, I got lots of coloured tights for Christmas which was a little odd. My own dd on the otherhand is mortified if I turn up at the school gates in anything colourful.

UnquietDad · 20/01/2010 00:03

They are fine by me. Especially if teacher is young and slim.

Wastwinsetandpearls · 20/01/2010 00:08

I am neither, sadly UnquietDad.

Chandon · 20/01/2010 09:38

can´t see what´s wrong with it, have lived here for years but feel very foreign now...

jamaisjedors · 20/01/2010 09:52

How can you teach in a suit?

Admittedly I used to wear a suit to a business school I taught at but I would find it really restrictive and sweaty now?

Plus everyone would wonder where I was going AFTER work if I turned up in a suit now.

Twas a lot easier to get dressed in the morning though with a suit, I tell people that the English LIKE a uniform
