Surgical issues..aka..a little enhancement

Would you? And what would you have done if so?

Have an open mind about lifting/tucking/botoxing and am wondering if this is the normal view at this stage.

Don't mean the frozen bat/stretched face look but just a little enhancement...

I keep saying I'm going to have fillers in my laughter lines but can't seem to pluck up the courage to make the appointment. I wish I knew someone who'd had it done, and looked better for it, so I'd know which Dr to go to. I'm no stranger to surgery having had my stomach and boobs done but they're not on display like my face is.

I hate the puffy faces that LuLu and Olivia Newton John are sporting at the moment. Everything between their lips and eyes appears double its normal size. They look younger than their years but also a little freakish. I don't want to end up like that and worry that having the fillers could be a step onto a slippery slope. Where does it end? If my cheeks look fuller and less lined would other bits of my face look worse in comparison?

Not sure what do to really.

marthastewart · 15/11/2009 19:28

Yes - it's the Nicole Kidman look - where her face is so stretched that her eyes seem to be pulled sideways that is best to avoid.

I would be open to trying a jab or two of botox though, to freeze time! Apparently the younger you start, the better the results.

Are you happy with the work you have had done on tummy and boobs and was it very painful can I ask?

spugs · 15/11/2009 20:49

I had my boobs done and I love them, Im much more balanced out now and feel much happier and more confident. I didnt find it painful, not as bad as milk coming in though the muscles under my arms felt like they'ed had a hard work out.

I'd have further work done if i could afford it, Id like filler in my top lip and botox. Major surgery wise I would never rule it out.

purplepeony · 15/11/2009 20:54

oooooh yes- looking at Restylane and SubQ-never say never!

notnowbernard · 15/11/2009 20:55

Always thought I'd give Botox a wide berth

Lately I'm seriously considering booking it in for my 40th

Which is 8yrs away

purplepeony · 15/11/2009 21:02

Dr Tracy Mountford is evidently queen of fillers- or Dr Sebagh (Carol Vorderman and possibly Madonna)( he's £1K-3K mind!).

marthastewart · 15/11/2009 21:09

I guess it's the one area where it's best to pay as much as you can possibly afford for reliability and results as it can go dramatically wrong and you are stuck with it.

Glad to hear it's been positive for posters!

I'd have my nose done again

I'd have a boob lift/reduction if it was pain and scar free

marthastewart · 15/11/2009 21:18

Nose done AGAIN?have you had previous work on it.
Yes am with you on the pain free option ( guess there is always morphine though!)but happy (ish) with body - it's the whole ageing thing that gets me.

Amandoh · 15/11/2009 21:23

Those of you considering botox ~ Which areas of your face would you have done?

MarthaStewart ~ Yes, I'm pleased with the surgery I've had. My stomach was awful and is now completely flat and taut. I had my boobs reduced and went from an E cup to a large C/small D. Unfortunately they've grown again and I'm now a 34DD but I was aware this could happen so can't complain. I might have them reduced again though as I'm hoping to have my nose done next year so could have the two ops done at the same time.

I've also read many times that the earlier you start having work done the less you need doing in the long run and the more natural it looks. I've got some money put aside to have a small facelift in my early forties. I'd rather have a small lift that might not be very noticeable than get to the point where my face is drooping and the facelift is a big job and the results very obvious.

Re Nicole Kidman... Does she admit to having had work done? Very mean but mildly amusing when Sharon Osbourne said she thought Nicole Kidman's head looked like "A flatscreen TV!" Her lips certainly look er, enhanced.

notnowbernard · 15/11/2009 21:25

My frown lines

Amandoh · 15/11/2009 21:28

EldonAve ~ Was the nose job painful? I've read that when they pull the packing out it's awful. Can you have a nose job without it being "packed" do you know?

BTW... Neither the breast reduction or tummy tuck were painful. Yes, there's scarring but you have to look really hard to see it.

Sidge · 15/11/2009 21:35

If I had the money I'd have liposuction on my legs.

They're not too awful but I have real saddlebags and would love to have slim thighs. Whatever I weigh I have stubborn saddlebags that no amount of exercise can reduce - I think it must be genetic. I can exercise til I'm blue in the face but then just have toned saddlebags!

I'd love to have them sucked out.

EldonAve · 15/11/2009 21:35

The nose was pain free and wasn't packed as I recall - I've had it done twice to try and fix a deviated septum

I had the bump shaved off it and it straightened but didn't have the overall shape altered

marthastewart · 15/11/2009 22:00

Wow Amandoh - didn't know your boobs would actually grow again after reduction, what do you plan to have done with your nose?

EldonAve - like the idea of a bump free nose, was it very expensive do you remember?

Liposuction just sounds too good to be true doesn't it - I mean I guess it is painful but as you say Sidge - results you don't/can't get from exercise alone!

notjustapuppymum · 15/11/2009 22:05

EldonAve can I ask what the success was of your nose op to straighten your nose? I have a wonky nose and have been debating for ages about having surgery but have heard it is difficult to correct and don't want to go through surgery if it's not going to be successful.

EldonAve · 15/11/2009 22:14

nose is much straighter now but not perfect
alas the septum is still wonky which is the most annoying thing - I want to be able to breath!

I can't recall what it cost but due to the septum it was covered on our health insurance

marthastewart · 15/11/2009 22:22

Yes - It does seem a bit trivial to bang on about surgery for enhancement when people have to go through procedures for health reasons. Have not had any work done but would definitely consider it, however have the guilt thing about unnecessary surgery.

Think I will investigate a little further - used to be fascinated by the results on "The Swan" don't know if you guys have seen it - they made it look soooo easy - but thought some of the results were not so good.

Hope you get results with nose you are looking for, EA

awfulplasticsurgery.com/ is always worth a look for things that go wrong and people who go too far!

akhems · 16/11/2009 08:07

I will when the time comes, due to losing a lot of weight my body looks like a melted candle

sooo.. boobs, tummy, arms and legs. My bum will probably also need attention at some point. My face is also quite saggy so I'd be looking at that too.

I have a surgeon in mind and in fact am going to be meeting him later this week but won't have the surgery for another year or so.

marthastewart · 16/11/2009 09:42

oh good luck with that akhems!
Well done on loosing the weight too!

Will check out link EA!

Yes, I saw some of The Swan programmes. The final reveals were always over made up with mad Jackie Collins hair but the women were always delighted and no doubt when all the make up and hair extensions came off they still looked different to their former selves which is ultimately what they wanted.

I'm really pleased to hear that you can have a nose job without the packing. It's one of the things that's been putting me off making any serious enquiries. DP not keen on me having it done but I've always hated my nose. Just too long for my face I think. Also, DS2 broke it when he was a toddler so there's a bit of broken bone on the bridge that makes it look slightly bent. Would just like it straightened and shortened.

Akhems~ Well done on your weight loss! I know you already have a surgeon in mind but if you're in the SE can I also recommend the sugeon that did my stomach, Mr Brent Tanner, as you might want to see a few surgeons before deciding on who you'd like to do the work. My after photos are on my profile but if you'd like to see the before photos I'm happy to email them to you.

I would never have anything done even though I have to carry round size 36J breasts. I scar pretty badly so i would hate to have the lines up to my nipples from the reduction. At least now, massive though they are, they are somewhat pert, rounded and symmetrical.

there is no guarantee with surgery that I wouldn't get extensive scarring and perhaps nipple loss.
