Following on from the other thread, I need some more inspiration for retail therapy

35

buy a lot on ebay as i often know exactly what i want and it may not be in fashion or i can't be arsed to trawl the shops looking, plus obv the price thing.
howies sale
white stuff (usually sale) - their prints are best on high st imnsho, cut can be odd/frumpy though.
h&m
topshop
tkmaxx
new look
peacocks (rather than primark as more convenient/less hellish)
hadn't been into dp's for years but recently got a couple of decent pairs of jeans there for half topshop prices.
warehouse
oasis (almost always in sale, i'll pick up something outrageously coloured and silky for £4)
plus random online places.

Oumasrusks · 30/10/2009 11:36

I'm 32 and I buy from:

Boden
M&S
Next
Tesco
Asda (only bought a coat from there)

yes, I'll second DP for jeans. Recently bought a very flattering pair in there for £25 - first none Sainsbury's purchase (excluding shoes) for aaaaaaages. Hurrah!

MissWooWoo · 30/10/2009 11:44

oh, am 38

boodeniites · 30/10/2009 11:48

first choice Boden then M&S. Charity shops, Tesco, Matalan, Primark would love to buy from Brora, Saltwater, Tulip and Nettle

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/10/2009 11:59

I'm 50.

I hate clothes shopping. Especially as I'm struggling to lose weight at the moment and so everything looks shite on me.

Have a big M&S right above our Sainsbury, so often buy bits and pieces there. Have bought a couple of lovely cashmere sweaters from Autograph recently. I always walk round the whole store, just in case they've suddenly realised how gobsmackingly awful Per Una has become and have done something about it.

Have bought bits from Sainsbury; sometimes go there before I do the rest of the weekly shop just to see what's in stock.

Otherwise, I bought some summer stuff from Uniqlo and Kew. I tried to buy from Monsoon but their range was very odd this summer. Not sure what their Autumn/Winter range is like.

Bought a couple of nice tops from East, but don't go there very often as it's a bit of a drive from here.

EdgarAllenPoo · 30/10/2009 11:59

32 -

i think..>moves lips imperceptibly<
no, I'm 31.

ebay/charity shop - though i will only buy

monsoon
noa noa
M&S
boden (One skirt)
sportmax (one skirt)
or labels i've never heard of, so long as the fabric & cut looks right.

i may be slightly unreasonable in this, but even if i like the look of an item, if it is ex-tesco/asda/new look/ river island, i won't buy it, because i would suspect it of not washing well/ being cheap fabric.

BikeRunSki · 30/10/2009 12:00

38 and becoming a Boden cliche!

Also
Howies mostly jeans in sales (but we get a discount through work)
M&S sometimes - usually find decent stuff on www or Outlet shops, but never anything in real life shops.
Plain Ts from Primark
Plain knitwear from Woolovers
Sainsbury's - fab cords, really well cut for me.
Have a Monsoon denim skirt which I recently bought with vouchers and love, but I am not really a Monsoony kinda gal.

BikeRunSki · 30/10/2009 12:01

To be honest, I am 39 next week.

notnowbernard · 30/10/2009 12:05

I'm 32

H&M and Primark - when I'm skint, which is fairly frequently

Gap, Topshop, Oasis - when I've got cash to spare

White Stuff, French Connection - on the rare occasion I have a decent amount to spend, or want to get something nice for an event or somesuch

Also like a rummage in charity shops!

Sunshinemummified · 30/10/2009 12:11

I'm 39 and buy most of my clothes from Gap, Uniqlo (brilliant jeans for £25), H&M and sometimes Next and M&S. I also occasionally pop into Zara and Mango.

MaggieOicheSamhain · 30/10/2009 12:16

I miss principles as well. Have they shut down in Britain too? I thought it was just in Ireland.

I buy from

Dunnes (but never anything patterned)
Next (a/a) I like their trousers(not jeans)
H&M (Occasionally)
Wallis - more frequently now
Tesco - once in a blue moon
Oasis - good for jeans
M&S - but not per una. Limited Collection or bits from the main range
Other things that catch my eye in debenhams eg, if I really love them and consider them 'worth' th ebit extra over what I normally like to pay.

MaggieOicheSamhain · 30/10/2009 12:17

i'm 39

JANEITEPatrickNormanMcHennesy · 30/10/2009 12:41

39 - also miss Principles because of their petite length work trousers that were actually cut for curves, instead of for adolescent boys.

I am really struggling lately to find anywhere that does the kind of things I want at a price that I can afford and I have Vivienne Westwood aspirations.

M&S Limited Collection - occasional wonderful things, hidden in a generally hideous pinkness - and they seem to be using more horrible polysester etc than they used to.

M&S Autograph - I like their basic tops and basic knitwear.

Gap - for little 50s style skirts and dresses and sometimes for silk camis. Nowhwere near as good now for anything else.

Linea at House of Fraser - for cardigans and work trousers (although they are mostly too long for me).

I used to like Saint Martins, a Swedish brand but our House of Fraser has stopped stocking them.

I love Whistles stuff but not much of it fits me, or suits me.

Jones - for boots.

Clarks - for ballet shoes.

Abubu · 30/10/2009 12:44

I'm 31 and don't actually shop very often (but oddly read this MN section quite often)

I shop at:
Next
Monsoon
Gap for jeans
Supermarket (bit embarrased about that one)
New Look occasionally
Dorothy Perkins
Debenhams (most of my stuff is from here)
The occasional little one off boutique

I actually think I'm not very well dressed so don't take any tips from me!

bigTillyMint · 30/10/2009 13:03

Ooh what a lot of replies!
Well, mostly similar to me.

I'm the wrong side of 40 and I shop in
anywhere there's a sale on or bargains to be had

local "boutiques"
Gap
Fat Face
White Stuff
Zara
TK Maxx
Coast
Fenn Wright Manson
Debenhams
New Look
h&m
jigsaw
Office
Shellys
Clarkes

And various online stores

OP posts:
Pendulum · 30/10/2009 14:22

Prinicples fans- try Laura Ashley. It has been a bit of a revelation recently to me. There is still the odd chintzy fabric and over-ruffled blouse, but I have picked up some great knitwear and tailored stuff for work. also a fab purple duffle coat.

33 next week - mostly shop at Topshop for jeans, Oasis, Warehouse, Asos.com and other online retailers

deliciousdevilwoman · 30/10/2009 16:07

I am 40 and in the main, shop at:

Reiss
Whistles
Monsoon
TK Maxx
Noa Noa
Jigsaw
Dorothy Perkins
Primarni
Karen Millen
Coast

purplepeony · 30/10/2009 16:12

I'm 50-ish and buy from

Boden
Kew
Jigsaw
White Company
White Stuff
Gap
Uniqlo
Jones Bootmakers
Duo
Undies all M&S

MaggieOicheSamhain · 30/10/2009 17:50

The White Company, now that is an Emperor's Clothes kind of catalogue if I ever saw one!

Somebody linked to a grey cardi from there yesterday and it looked like a shapeless dull rag.

bigTillyMint · 30/10/2009 17:59

Yes, just got my first shop from uniqlo and I am impressed.

What or where is Dunnes?

OP posts:
MaggieOicheSamhain · 30/10/2009 18:07

Dunnes sell food, clothes, homewares like an Irish M&S but cheaper. Bit more emphasis on Value. There are a good few of them in the north of England.
