What do you need? It's less frequent now but I used to love spending loads of money on shoes!!

LetThemEatCake · 07/05/2009 22:47

oh you star. Thanks.

Ok so I have bought these shoes and when they arrived this morning, they had a big scratch on one of them - on the acual shoes, not the sole or whatever.

Obviously not noticeable since they are all the way down on your feet etc and I accept that I would probably scratch them within a few wears since they are so metallic and shiny. But the point is that if I am paying £400 or whatever, I expect to open the box to a perfect pair of shoes

NaP offered to replace but alas! mine were the last in my size. So they asked me to take pics and email them in and said that they may offer me a discount. I'm waiting to hear back from them.

My question is - what sort of discount would you deem acceptable? Don't want to be fobbed off with a fiver off, but nor do I want to give up my shoes!!

TIA

i reckon 10% at least.

warthog · 07/05/2009 22:50

depends on what they're worth to you...

diedandgonetodevon · 07/05/2009 22:55

beautiful shoes. I'd expect at least 20%. More if they are unlikely to be able to resell due to the scratch.

Ewe · 07/05/2009 22:58

I would say at least 10% but would push for 20% - they will struggle to resell them now, who would spend £300+ on scratched shoes?

Do you actually specifically need them or are they a fun purchase? I think they're gorgeous and if you love them or it's a specific thing you need/want them for then you'll just have to take what they offer! If not then you could always swap for another gorgeous pair of shoes?

LetThemEatCake · 07/05/2009 23:49

hmmm ... okay food for thought. Will keep you posted.
Cheers ladies. x

I reckon 2 things... Probably more than 2 actually (Spanish Inquisition! )

  1. Go in polite, but fighting. Try calling. My DH is Italian, and I have learned from him that if you don't ask, you don't get. Call them, speak to a real person, rather than an email , and go as low as you dare - 50% maybe - as someone has already said, they can't resell a damaged pair of shoes. Try not to let on too much that you really want the shoes!

  2. NAP have pretty good customer service, and probably want to keep their customer base happy, so I would expect decent treatment, at least.

  3. If they offer less than 20%, I'd return them, even if you love them. You'll find another pair, I'm sure

  4. Try another tack... If they don't offer you more than 20%, I'd ask for a store credit of more than 20% of the value from them instead, IYSWIM - that way, you get more money back towards another purchase. They might see that as a good deal.

Will think about what else I might do...

Penthesileia · 08/05/2009 11:08

Don't be embarrassed to be really brazen, btw. Honestly. I know it feels unnaturaly, but as I said, I've learned from DH... You are pretty much anonymous to them, and they to you, so you don't have to blush in their faces. And it's not as if if you ask for a really cheeky discount they'll stop you shopping there in the future!

Penthesileia · 08/05/2009 11:08

Oops: unnatural

CHOOGIRL · 08/05/2009 15:16

Sorry for delay. Been away on business - flew back late last night.

I think you'd normally expect the shoes to be discounted by 30% if they were in the sale - and they would be perfect. I agree with Penthesileia go in high and see what they say. If you want perfect shoes give New Bond Street a call and see if they will deliver for you. Still not bought mine yet!!

BlingDreaming · 08/05/2009 15:19

I agree with Choogirl - as they're end of stock shoes, normally they'd be put on sale, as damaged goods, at way more than 10%. I'd say at least 30% would be what you'd want.

I'm not sure how big the scratch is but personally, if I was buying Jimmy Choos I'd require a really really hefty discount to accept less than full quality.

On seperate note... they are amazing.

LetThemEatCake · 08/05/2009 17:51

thanks again ladies.

I am getting increasingly as i haven't heard back from Netaporter, despite having phoned them twice (once to make sure that they'd rec'd the email with the photos and once today to chase up a response.

Bastardos!!!

Will keep you posted.

On the plus side, have got the mobile beautician due tonight after I put the kids to bed (dh is away) so I will at least have nicely pedicured feet to put into some form of shoe, even if the Choos are languishing in their box while someone at NAP determines their fate .....

I would ask for a £100 voucher - as compensation for 'not being able to wear them to a Christening/Wedding' tomorrow...

lambanana · 08/05/2009 23:32

I have no idea on the discount you should ask for - my brain has gone into shoe overdrive looking at those bad boys!

LetThemEatCake · 08/05/2009 23:44

check and see whether they have your size ... go on, I dare you....

OP posts:
lambanana · 08/05/2009 23:51

Oh my god they do! (gets nervous twitch)!

You surely must be the SJP of MN with those beauties!

LetThemEatCake · 08/05/2009 23:55

don't even say it!! I am so anti-SJP that it's not even funny but, shockingly, I am also a freelance journalist who write a column while sitting on my bed.

I wear more than frilly knickers and a vapid expression though.

And I have shoes, oh my I have shoes.

But also babies.

So no SJP here.

Go on, get 'em. And then transfer your CC balance to a 0% card. And pay them off £40 per month. Done.

OP posts:
lambanana · 09/05/2009 00:05

Hmm

Friday Night

Everyone in bed

Could they be my guilty secret?

Yep I have babies too and actually some rather nice frilly knickers! Sadly no job at the mo because of said babies so you wear them on your newly coiffured feet, be fabulous and report back!

LetThemEatCake · 09/05/2009 00:11

"Could they be my guilty secret?"

You know, you are more than a little SJP yourself, honey!!! all you need are the shoes....

failing that, check out Theoutnet.com - lots of designer shoes at hugely discounted prices - I can never by from there because my feet are too big and my size is rarer than hen's teeth, but if you have normal feet then give it a look

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 09/05/2009 00:12

buy from there

shocker

Will be having a nosy I think. I am a perfect 5!

My latest humble purchase was a pair of jewelled sandals from new look - can't you see I am really pushing the boat out!

I have never been in the Jimmy Choo league but my most expensive pair ever were silver snakeskin stilettos from Karen Millen. I bought them in 2002 for £140 but I am still wearing them. Not very often it has to be said - most of the time they reside in their box!

Shoes, lots of shoes = happiness!

LetThemEatCake · 09/05/2009 00:23

Nothing wrong with inexpensive shoes - I bought a par of £8 gold strappy flats from Primark a few weeks ago and have had nothing but nice compliments on them.

KWYM re; KM shoes too (they sound lush by the way) I bought a pair of $240 knee-high suede boots for the Jamiroquai concert when I was 22 and a uni student in Sydney ... seemed like $$$$$$ at the time, but 14 years on they are still going strong. Hopefully any expensive shoes I buy will be in that league.

Which is why I am not buying these
