Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

staggerlee · 04/04/2009 11:13

Howtotellmum,I take a great interest in how I look and enjoy fashion. I just don't expect everyone else to.
Re read the orginal post-it accuses SB of having 'appalling dress sense and a terrible figure', not just 'getting her outfit wrong'.
That in my view is nasty and not constructive.

Mumcentreplus · 04/04/2009 11:14

The dress was a bit nasty though..too clingy where's her stylist because she needs a kickin

howtotellmum · 04/04/2009 11:16

staggerlee- well of course you don't expect everyone else to take an interest- but you don't reside in no.10, do you!

Unfortunately, being picked over in the press and on MN comes as part of the job.

Ronaldinhio · 04/04/2009 11:20

I'm sorry but why do we feel the need to do this?

She seems like a nice lady who I'm sure spent a great deal of time thinking about the Summit and the amount of public scrutiny she'd be under and worrying about what to wear and what would be said about her.

I'm sure she made a big effort.

Why do we feel that it's appropriate to be horrible about what she wore?
She isn't a fasion designer or model, muse or face of a brand.
She's a mother and wife of someone with a high profile job.

She didn't turn up in a tracksuit or M&S jeans with yoghurt on them.
She, with justified trepidation, did her best

Stop being the worst of what we can expect from each other.

ssd · 04/04/2009 11:21

has moondog posted a picture of herself yet so we can all comment on how she looks? I mean she must be perfect to make such a bitchy comment about SB

noddyholder · 04/04/2009 11:25

It is all very well everyone saying someone should have told her blah blah. But that would only work if she had a media induced self hatred and had a preconceived idea of how that suit should look according to some pipe cleaner fashion stylist.Maybe she thinks she looks fine which she does

TsarChasm · 04/04/2009 11:25

Weeeel...it was an awful outfit. Or at the very least an awful fit. Having a pop at the woman's weight was unkind, but she could look loads better than that. Even a pair of magic pants would have helped.

First lady is lovely looking. Usually gets it right. Not with the cardi/full skirt combi imo though.

What I like about her though is that she stand up straight. Even though she's tall, often much taller than people she's meeting, she holds herself up up up!

staggerlee · 04/04/2009 11:42

howtotellmum, think you misunderstood me. I meant that I don't expect everyone to take an interest in fashion-not me specifically!

Shame that you think being subject to bitchy, nasty comments from other women is part of the job and that you seem to think thats ok. No wonder we have a generation of young women who have self esteem issues and judge themselves and others on looks. Anyway I'm taking it all a bit seriously..

izyboy · 04/04/2009 12:07

Why are you surprised Charlie? On previous threads I have read, Moondog has been pretty scathing about people who are considered overweight. The OP is true to form from what I can see. Some of these comments could be copied out of a 1950's 'how to please your husband' handbook. C'mon wise up.

charliegal · 04/04/2009 12:12

I had a meeting with our local MP. She was wearing a crumply brown suit, no make up, hair not 'done' and she looked absolutely knackered.

I thought she was brilliant and wouldn't dream of 'judging' her on the basis of her appearance. I think for some of us, it is just not something we do.

I agree with onebatmother, you know when you have met someone with integrity, creativity, whatever and whther they are 'looking good and keeping themselves trim' does not really come into it.

All this speculation and judging means you are missing out on the really important things and that is sad. I hugely regret the time I spent in my youth obsessing about my looks and weight etc.

izyboy · 04/04/2009 12:16

Yeah didnt think Michelle looked completely swish but she did a stonker of a speech to those girls. Fab.

foxinsocks · 04/04/2009 12:22

oh I dunno, moondog couched it as being shallow in her title

She didn't look brilliant but it certainly wasn't something that made me think the worse of her at all (Sarah). My gawd, I'm sure we've all had times in our lives where nothing really fits us that well and we've had an awkward shape.

I actually thought the blue suit Sarah wore for the Opera night was really nice (as was Michelle Obama's outfit) but then again, I'm a fairly conservative dresser myself .

Think with both of them, they don't need or want their looks to do the talking and thank fuck for women like that tbh.

izyboy · 04/04/2009 12:27

Oh well at least Moondog admits she is shallow, we will know to ignore all her comments in futture! lol

Swedes · 04/04/2009 12:41

Posh Spice looks terribly uncomfortable and absolutely terrified in any outfit, but at least the garments don't tug in the wrong places.

foxinsocks · 04/04/2009 12:51

I'm not sure any clothing could tug when you're a size zero tbh (not that I'd know!)

kittywise · 04/04/2009 13:00

posh spice always looks rubbish because she is way too thin. It doesn't matter that she's got millions to waste on haute couture, she will never look good whilst she's that weight.

piscesmoon · 04/04/2009 13:25

'piscesmoon, it doesn't matter what we look like fhs we are not representing the country and having tea with MO.'

I would have thought that her job was to support her husband and blend into the background; to have all cameras trained on her as if she was a movie star is putting the emphasis on entirely the wrong thing. What she says and does are far more important. She was dressed appropriately for the situation, she didn't turn up in jeans and Tshirt or sequins etc.
I don't think MO looked that good, but at least they both looked like real women.
Moondog, kittyswise etc may not be representing Britain, but I think that we ought to see photos of them before we judge whether they are suitable to become self appointed stylists for those in the public eye!!

itchyandscratchy · 04/04/2009 13:38

at the idea that Posh Spice looks anorexic / terrified / unnatural / sub-human / whatever in her outfits, but at least they don't tug in the wrong places

Yeah, that's the main thing, eh? and double

expatinscotland · 04/04/2009 13:40

Oh, please! Posh is going to wind up in a Jim Carry movie she's such a caricature of a person. She's starting to take on a Wacko Jacko look.

JeanPoole · 04/04/2009 13:53

SB has not let anyone down, the only person that has let herself down is moondog with this nasty thread.
oh and some of moondogs followers, this is the worst thread i've ever seen on here in over 2 years.

it makes me dispare for all our lovely little dds out there really.

shame on you.

i will take a little comfort in the fact the people that want to bitch are the minority.

staggerlee · 04/04/2009 14:03

well said jean. If my son spoke about women the way some posters on here are doing I'd be ashamed.
Judging women on their looks and belittling them has always been a way of keeping us in our place. Of course that doesn't mean women shouldn't take pride in their appearance. My objections to some opinions on here is the sheer nastiness of them

kittywise · 04/04/2009 14:06

I've seen far worse than this thread!!!!

MintyyAeroEgg · 04/04/2009 14:13

In RL the only derogatory comments I have regularly heard about women, their size and their clothes came from a 21 year old Grazia reading, Armani-wearing, baby food eating (Hipp mixed vegetables straight from the jar for lunch anyone?) BULLIMIC, money/status/ appearance obsessed estate agent, who made Jade look well educated, and who was one of the most tedious people imaginable. And now I can't help but associate some of you loons with her!
