Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

not proud of it - but i comment on mens' dress and appearance daily

and bad bodies

WilfSell · 04/04/2009 00:02

There's no hope for you. I hope you receive the same courtesy when you need it.

Quattrocento · 04/04/2009 00:06

See, most of our PMs have been moderately to extremely unattractive. But I don't remember them being mauled in the press for the way they look. But then again, they were mostly male.

As far as women are concerned, only the Queen ever escapes this sort of stuff.

expatinscotland · 04/04/2009 00:18

'It's her duty'.

She has a child with CF who needs daily physio.

She has to live with the fact every day, that she may well bury another of her children.

Jesus wept, I can't believe I'm on here defending Sarah-friggin'-Brown, given as how her husband's policies put us in permanent debt and have affected our daily lives forever.

But she's not GB.

She's a mother with two children, one with serious needs, in her mid-40s.

Get.fucking.OVER.it.and.leave.her.alone.

Jesu, I'm overweight just now due to my thyroid being all cocked up after my third was born.

Good thing I'm not the PM's wife.

onebatmother · 04/04/2009 00:24

"And come back a bit more feminist and educated. "

LOLOLOL

yes, please come back less stoopid.

Women who worry about"letting themselves go" are prehaps justified. They do tend to be very.. lightweight, don't they? Might just float away if let go..

sorry christiana...what point are actually trying to make?

Habbibu · 04/04/2009 07:19

"But those who are 'stoopid' will generally try to make themselves more educated or be very aware of their failings. Those who are less well looking seem to think it's fine just to stay just the way they are." Oh yes. Bet there's just stacks of evidence to support that assertion.

piscesmoon · 04/04/2009 07:20

'Clearly Sarah Brown is quite a lot overweight'

Clearly she isn't-she is slightly overweight.
She isn't a package! I don't see why she has to become 'a slicker package'.
I hope that she never feels the need to pander to public criticism and get an image consultant.Hopefully she has enough self confidence to do her own thing rather than rely on someone elses ideas.
It would be lovely if those of you who are so critical were to post a full length photo of yourselves (one that had just been snapped rather than posed)and we could all say what we thought! I doubt whether you would get 100% positive comments!

kittywise · 04/04/2009 08:04

piscesmoon, it doesn't matter what we look like fhs we are not representing the country and having tea with MO.

At least the pair of them looked appalling otherwise it would have been even more embarrassing.

Here we go again the lazy brits have got no fashion sense and can't even tell when their clothes don't fit..

It is perfectly possible for here to chose an outfit that actually FITS whatever her lifestyle

She has a duty because her husband is the priminister. Those in high profile positions, especially to do with politics have to make an effort with their dress.
The rest of us can carry on looking the way we want, it's simple.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 04/04/2009 08:55

You would not make these comments if the PM's spouse was male kitty

You just wouldn't

I would see it as being a partner's duty (f they choose to come to an event) to dress respectably - i.e. smartish clothes for a a smart event rather than turning up in jeans and a t-shirt. Not to wear the most flattering on trend clothes - but to wear clothes which do the job of being broadly appropriate. Which SB has done.

kittywise · 04/04/2009 09:09

Riven, I disagree, you would have a duty.

I would comment if the husband of a female politician stood thee in ill fitting clothes, bulging at the seams, there's just no need for it.

You don't need a stylist, you don't need money, you don't need time, you don't need to have a lovely figure, you just need to be able to look in the mirror and see that your clothes are too small.
Now, if she has looked in the mirror and come to conclusion that her suit was a perfect fit then she is not as intelligent as some of you would have her be.

Kitty. Are you serious? To suggest her badly fitting suit equates in some way to her intellect is just bonkers. Maybe her mind is on more important things, maybe yours should be.

Not surprised to see the thread title on Mn.
Very surprised to see it started by Moondog.

noddyholder · 04/04/2009 10:25

God i despair of some of you In fact all you have done is make yourself look ridiculous. One of the few occasions when the stupid word is apt

kittywise · 04/04/2009 10:43

staggerlee, I never said that. I said if she cant work it out then she's not as intelligent as she might seem.

howtotellmum · 04/04/2009 10:53

I can't get over how so many of you seem to think that being aware of your body shape and what suits you, and taking an interest in looking good and keeping trim in some way means you are a) not intelligent or b) have your mind on "higher things" or c) can't find the time as you have kids to look after.
It IS possible to do/have both!
The arguemnt over "well, post a pic of you and see what we think" is bonkers- we aren't the PM's wife.

Many moons ago, Norma Major got a similar slagging off when she wore a droopy, ill-fitting home made suit when John was elected- and she did look a bloody mess.

Thankfully, she realised the way to go, and turned out looking pretty good from then on.
This thread has got WAY too serious- it is simply a comment about how the PMs wife got her outfit wrong on a day when she was being snapped a lot.

She has got a voluptuous figure and either she should havehad another good look in the mirror, or her best friend should have had a word with her and said "Sarah, that suit is too tight and shows off your tummy and hips too much."
