Thank you to the many voices of reason on this thread.

I have been despairing about the unthinking, vicious mysogyny displayed here, and hoping that I never have the misfortune to meet any of these shallow bitchy women with no interest in any attribute other than dress size and clothing budget.

kittywise · 03/04/2009 17:53

Yes moondog I am in second camp. I don't care.

izyboy · 03/04/2009 17:59

snort 'camps' how blardy ridiculous.

motherinferior · 03/04/2009 18:02

I honestly do not think that she cares what a lot of slightly weird people on the interweb think of her.

Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh goodness gracious.

Does it not matter that these First Ladies may have worked hard to recieve O-Levels/GCSE's/Degrees/PHD's/Professional Qualifications and be at the top of their Professional game; Not forgetting giving birth to, and raising children - some disabled - and all that entails ?

Why, should we not just go along with the ethos of the Taliban and ban our daughter's from being educated all together. After all - we should only judge (or are only, rather too stupid to judge)- these First Ladies based on whether they carry an extra three inches of fat on their bodies; or if their cardigan is "just not the correct shade of magenta for this season"

Why, I must imagine the people who are this shallow simply are not the type who have fought to make sure their darling little daughter has made it in to the "must have"/Outstanding school.

Really !!

kittywise · 03/04/2009 18:39

jackie o would have had a fit

expatinscotland · 03/04/2009 18:45

Nah, caramel, let's just turn them all into Jordan. Because fake is attractive, and looks are the main thing, as long as you're stick thin.

Oh, and Jackie O.'s long dead. She smoked cigarettes, in part to keep her slim, and she got cancer and died.

caramelwaffle · 03/04/2009 18:45

(snort) She would have!
Where is Vicky Beckham when you need her?!

(CaramelWaffle rushes around to ensure her daughters school place is offered to someone else and buys every back issue of O.K. magazine for style advice)

kittywise · 03/04/2009 18:57

Yeah, but she still would have had a fit, infact she's most prob spinning in her grave as we speak!!!

Heavens, these women are supposed to represent their countries. Why do the ones representing us always look like sacks of potatoes?

howtotellmum · 03/04/2009 19:23

kristinaM However you look at her, she is plump- the belly, the bum and the thighs- or she is wearing a suit 2 sizes too small. It does not enhance her figure. Let's just be honest and not start the whole thing about "but she is clever/good with her kids/ saving the world as well...debate (oh no, that's Gordo's job)
Can't be doing with all this Emporer's new clothes attitude here- she looked a mess in that outfit and anyone who thinks she doesn't. Well....get your eyes tested.
There is nothing wrong in wanting to look good and dress well- it doesn't automatically mean you are shallow or a bad mum and are somethow "on a higher plain".

kittywise · 03/04/2009 19:31

yes, true indeed

MakemineaGandT · 03/04/2009 19:51

absolutely howtotellmum

TomNook · 03/04/2009 19:52

she looked a mess its true

nothign to do with fat or thin

just sort it.

izyboy · 03/04/2009 20:01

Well, the op admitted to being 'shallow' but went on to say that SB had 'appalling' dress sense and a 'terrible' figure. That was a ridiculous, sweeping statement.

Sure the outfit was reasonably unflattering but the op was such an ott comment that it deserved to be treated with distain.

izyboy · 03/04/2009 20:01

disdain

happywomble · 03/04/2009 20:04

lets see a photo of the OP to see her amazing dress sense and figure!

kittywise · 03/04/2009 20:12

It doesn't matter what the op's dress sense is she's not the Pm's wife ( and I'm sure she's very glad too).
SB has a duty to look decent.

pointydog · 03/04/2009 20:16

I trhink Sarah Brown looks fine. But she always seems to wear clothes a size too small, so they're all wrinkly and bulgy.

If she moves up a size, she'll look ten times better.

NotanOtter · 03/04/2009 20:22

exactly kittywise

reach4sky · 03/04/2009 20:22

kittywise, howtotellmum et al; she made a mistake, get over it!

I find it amazing that you can sit there on your juicy couture clad bums with your french manicures or whatever other hideosity you find "stylish" and criticise her. She's a fantastically successfully businesswoman who has worked tirelessly to draw attention to the issue of women dying in childbirth. She has never presented or promoted herself as someone with an interest or knowledge of fashion, nor has she ever sought the limelight.

What is it exactly that you have achieved that gives you the right to sneer at her dress sense?

Merrylegs · 03/04/2009 20:23

" or if their cardigan is "just not the correct shade of magenta for this season"

Now look, about this cardigan issue. This is Style and Beauty, right? Well, in that case - Sarah's outift isn't the most exciting or flattering, sure, but it IS a coherent outfit.

Michelle's prom dress is perfectly nice but the cardigan just doesn't go with it. It's not about being 'last season', it just looks as if she suddenly remembered it's chilly in London and grabbed the only wooly she brought .

And it may be assymetrical, but she really hasn't buttoned it properly.

Isn't 'Style and Beauty' a bit shallow anyway?
