here

I LOVE the print and shape... but I would like it much more in a heavy cotton, then I could wear it all summer over jeans for beach and stuff - but it's silk and probably delicate.

OTOH - I love it so much, I kind of want to get it as an investment (when next feeling flush) for weddings etc.

Has anyone got it and can tell me what it's like?

love it

silk dresses are in fact v versatile - you can wear them winter and summer and they pack v v small. I'd get it

weepootle · 30/03/2009 20:19

Can't help but do think it's lovely. Wouldn't pay that much for it though.

rubyslippers · 30/03/2009 20:19

oh yes - get it

i invested in a silk dress in the sales for all the reasons Effie said

Hassled · 30/03/2009 20:19

I like it, but not £145's worth of like, IYSWIM. Would be good for a wedding, definately.

VinoEsmeralda · 30/03/2009 20:22

It is lovely, buy it and if you dont like it sent/bring it back!

muffle · 30/03/2009 20:22

Waiting for the sale would be sensible and I generally never buy full price things from £££ toast - but I know it will be gone in a size 14 by the time it comes to that...

Effie you have got me thinking winter options now - would it go with black opaque tights do you think?

OP posts:
JudithChalmers · 30/03/2009 20:24

definitely, you mean

EffiePerine · 30/03/2009 20:26

yes, black opaques and heels and maybe a black velvet jacket?

muffle · 30/03/2009 20:27

Can't do heels, too tall and fall over. Boots?

You are my style guru tonight Effie.

noddyholder · 30/03/2009 20:29

lovely

EffiePerine · 30/03/2009 20:29

I find boots tricky (see what I mean about non-guruness?). Patent ballet pumps? For winter, I mean. Summer you could wear sparkly gold sandals and waft about.

treedelivery · 30/03/2009 20:30

Drool.

Buy it and post pic of you in it. Fab with opaques and maybe some black patent flats. Boots too. Dress down with funfly denim jacket and scarf/shawl thing, dress up with anything at all.

Get me one too? Cheers!

muffle · 30/03/2009 20:31

I'm surprised so many of you like it so much, I'm usually known for my slightly questionable taste!

Its beautiful. Toast clothes are so well made and definitely worth the money.

You will absolutely get your money's worth as it really looks to be a year-round dress

Am jealous.........am going to buy it myself......

MadameCastafiore · 30/03/2009 21:02

You will wear it a few times and everyone will remember it because it is a bit 50s and unusual and the everytime you wear it people will think 'Oh she has that lovely dress on AGAIN!!!'

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 21:02

not expensive, not impractical. Silk is waaaaay more versatile than cotton as you can wear for both casual and dressy.

Mi piace molto!!

No sparkly gold sandals with this dress though please.

EffiePerine · 30/03/2009 21:03

I have a really similar vintage 50s dress and always get positive comments when I wear it. Sadly, it's velvet so winter only and far too teeny for me at the moment

hoxtonchick · 30/03/2009 21:04

it's gorgeous. however, i tried it on & it didn't look gorgeous on me . mostly 'cos i'm a norkish size 16 & it only goes up to 14. it wasn't the thickest silk in the world, but lined. i think you really need to see it in the flesh. there's a top too...

Ledodgy · 30/03/2009 21:06

It's lovely you can dress it up with heels or dress down with sandals and or jeans and leggings/ballet pumps. In the winter you can wear it with a long sleeved t shirt underneath. Buy it!

ingles2 · 30/03/2009 21:07

It;s lovely...
whilst waiting for flushness why don't you have a look around the vintage/charity shops?
My bf has lots of dresses like this she picks up really cheap.

BirdyArms · 30/03/2009 21:08

I really like it. I agree it's something you'd wear again and again. It is expensive but I always justify dresses by comparing to separates, say £60 for a skirt, £60 for a top and £40 for a belt et voila the dress is a bargain.

tassisssss · 30/03/2009 21:08

wish I hadn't opened this...i adore it! do they do good sales?

Jewelsandgems · 30/03/2009 21:09

Sorry the neckline is not for me - nice print and silk gorgeous, but I would not pay that much for that dress.

I do like some toast stuff though, and I have friends who all agree that it is very good quality stuff.
