Best place to buy an "AMAZING" dress?

geordieminx · 09/02/2009 11:20

Ok so I'm begging and pleading for the help of the fashion experts on here...

I'm looking for a dress to wear at a wedding... mine but not a "wedding dress".

Ceremony in hotel, 40ish people, meal, casino later. Hotel is a Malmaison, so trendy/gothy chic? The room we are getting married in is black and this kinda colour.

I'm 27, short, will hopefully be a size 10 by then, with good boobs (34d), large thighs and wobbly post child tum.

Ideally I was thinking something long, but this isnt set in stone, I open to all suggestions!

I guess I want to look amazing (ha), cool, sexy but not slutty

Any help, links to websites that I may not have looked at would be appreciated loads.

Try Angela Stone

I know her, she is lovely and she will do whatever you want. Look at some of the non-bridal stuff she has done too

Coast, the best lovely dresses, ever!
Or try Karen Millen (if the shops have not gone into administration, I am not v up to date, still in post-baby fashion vacuum).
Congratulations on your impending nuptials!

Wow to angela stone CD - some of her stuff is amazing... unfortunately she is about 500 miles away... but I could travel

this is nice

BonsoirAnna · 09/02/2009 11:39

I'd get a complete Marni or Dries Van Noten outfit if it were me.

SongBirdOfPrey · 09/02/2009 11:41

gm your wedding sounds fab, are you actually going to a casino later or having a fun one at the hotel?
link to hotel please

mileniwmffalcon · 09/02/2009 11:42

gothy chic?

wasn't sure what "this colour" was with the black, was it purply? if so i give you purple gothy chic that one's a proper corset so would deal with your tummy too

geordieminx · 09/02/2009 11:49

here is the hotel

here is the room - its a champagene bar

Mileni - that was kinda the thing I had in mind, but not as gothy, as I'm as far from goth as you could possibley imagine.

I am thinking purples/golds as a "scheme" as such though.

Song bird - off to a casino I think, married in the champagne bar, have 2 rooms hired, 1 sits 40 for the meal, the other sits 12, so is going to have sofas to chill out and cages for the kids!

Nice purple one here

YeahBut · 09/02/2009 11:59

Budget?
What kind of colouring are you?

geordieminx · 09/02/2009 12:04

Hmmm budget, I dont really have one to be honest, ideally £400 or less, have no problem with ebay/second hand.

Have dark browny/red hair, green eyes and tanned skn.

YeahBut · 09/02/2009 12:06

YeahBut · 09/02/2009 12:14

more unconventional
def goth
will fight you for it

CountessDracula · 09/02/2009 12:15

SongBirdOfPrey · 09/02/2009 12:15

wow that place looks great!

i think cerise and lime would look amazing with those colours

SongBirdOfPrey · 09/02/2009 12:16

are you having bridesmaids and flowers?

SongBirdOfPrey · 09/02/2009 12:21

wow i love that black on from mileniwmffalcon
thats lovely.

SpitSpot · 09/02/2009 12:24

How about silver, way over budget but this is beautiful

or this (more in budget) black and silver

or lighter purple which would tone nicely

SongBirdOfPrey · 09/02/2009 12:25

i love this

YeahBut · 09/02/2009 12:26

drool
slinky
not sure how you'd feel about black

geordieminx · 09/02/2009 12:29

Love the gree one you linked to Yeahbut - havent looked at the others yet.

No bridesmaids, flowers probably but havent got that far yet!

(((((((((Runs off to look at the others}}}}}

Spitspot -love all 3 of them... the coast one was one of my first favourites, altough they havent got it in stock in my size. The Alexander McQueen one is amazing - although I wish I hadnt looked at it - over budget I can do, £1500 I wont cant

The style of the blue on that you linked to is very "me" songbird, I'm hourglass, with a good bust that is often on display!

geordieminx · 09/02/2009 12:37

I really like the black Amanda Wakely one too - I'm quite happy to wear black, its all inside so wouldnt look out of place IYKWIM

I hadnt thought of cerise/lime but you are right, I am a cerise person!

SpitSpot · 09/02/2009 12:41

Sorry I just couldnt resist the McQueen one. You might be able to get the Coast one in store - worth a phone call maybe?
