EyeballsintheSky · 05/02/2009 14:16

I saw a girl in a puffball skirt at the weekend and am ashamed to say that both DH and I laughed our dayglo socks off. She was old enough to know better so why tf would she want to wear that hideous creation the second time round as well?? That's why we laughed

Fimbo · 05/02/2009 14:19

I had snow wash jeans too. I didn't have the ones with the white piping up the side seam though. I also had a snow wash denim gilet.

KingRolo · 05/02/2009 14:27

I had checked jeans, anyone remember them? The check pattern was bleached onto them I think.

You used to get free plastic keyrings with Pepe jeans. Eeh, those were the days!

KingRolo · 05/02/2009 14:30

And you thought the leggings were bad!

TrillianAstra · 05/02/2009 14:38

Have you lot actually seen each other's norks, or is this MN equivalent of 'luv u lots hun, loadsa hugs'?

paolosgirl · 05/02/2009 14:43

I had the jeans with the white piping down the side....mmmmm. Also had snow wash, torn, bleached (by my own fair hands), stone wash, high waisters, baggy jeans which were tight at the ankle, and ones with zips at the ankles.

None of the above had anything going for them at all - why are girls putting themselves through this nonsense again?! The photos will come back and haunt them...

KingRolo · 05/02/2009 14:55

Do you think it's true that fashion designers hate all women and just want to see them looking terrible? Surely no woman would design clothes like these.

southeastastra · 05/02/2009 15:39

i've got some lovely tight levis with red piping down the side. though my belly hangs right over the top

SheherazadetheGoat · 05/02/2009 15:45

i am loving the recession chic.

those jeans are gynecologically tight, that is why she is pictured side on, to hide the enormouse camel toe.

The unitard: even the mannequin looks fat!!

paolosgirl · 05/02/2009 16:26

Anyone remember bodies? When you used to get so drunk that you'd resort to pulling the gusset bit to one side to go for a wee - or when you'd forget to do the poppers up again?

beansontoast · 05/02/2009 16:29

i stand alone then!

sassy · 05/02/2009 16:32

Paolo's girl - i as the girl who came back from the student union loos with the poppers done up outside the jeans! Disclaimer - I was pissed, I think I got away with it by pretending I'd done it on purpose for a laugh.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 05/02/2009 17:52

No Trillian. We compare them and rank one another by the impressiveness of our bosom.

Vital for clasping mners to, as required.

If yours possess special skills, like the ability to spin nipple tassles in opposite directions at the same time, or receive Radio Caroline, you receive extra points and a 20% boden discount.

verygreenlawn · 05/02/2009 19:19

Oh bosom clasping sounds fabulous!

I had jeans with piping down the side, though my piping was home-sewn due to my mum's extreme tightness and therefore reluctance to pay for the ready-sewn ones. She did however buy me a "soul belt" - anyone remember those? I had a red one to match my piping ...

I didn't have a puffball skirt, but I did have a rather fetching rara skirt in white - worn with a tight red t-shirt and terrifyingly electric blue mascara. Oh and my hair in a huge pineapple on top of my head

expatinscotland · 05/02/2009 19:21

Somewhere in Trenton, New Jersey, a hooker is wondering who ran off with her jeans . . .

TrillianAstra · 06/02/2009 07:17

When I was a teenager the thing was to cut down the side of your jeans and put a big triangle of material in to make flares. The more garish the better, the really cool girls had fake fur inserts.

cheesesarnie · 07/02/2009 00:32

eww.dh will love it-hes a 80's addict.i am not

CarryOnUpTheLiffey · 07/02/2009 09:44

oh boy, snow-wash. eughgh, and skinny snow wash! how bad can it get!

I had a pair. I also had a pair of glittery skinnies. 1984ish I think.

TsarChasm · 07/02/2009 09:53

Lol I remember those body tops that did up at the crutch. Trying to do those up after a few beers usually involved lurching about in the toilet banging your head on the door

The whole point is that we think all this is awful because we did it the first time round. Now it's being done again in that ironic way that comes around again and that only stands a chance on some gorgeous 17 yr old. Face it, if you did it in the 80's you can't really do it again now.

HeadFairy · 07/02/2009 09:57

hahahaha each generation has to make it's own fashion mistakes, even if the previous generation made exactly the same mistakes only a few years earlier. Anyone over 25 knows how unforgiving and generally shite acid washed jeans look on the average non model type, but we have to let the kids find out for themselves

CarryOnUpTheLiffey · 07/02/2009 10:06

I see gangs of girls wandering round and there are two uniforms.

  1. blonde girl uniform. Long blonde hair, skinny darkish jeans, uggs, manicured nails, perfect make-up, kind of slouchy but with a gorgeous bag, that I as a 37 yr old haven't been able to budget into my life yet. OH and the wire from her ipod.

  2. Brown hair girl uniform, short skirt, leggings or footless tights, ballet pumps, tons of beads, bracelets, a handbag from a marktet, makeup could do with a few pointers actually.

Thank god I'm an adult I think when I see them slouching around.

thatsnotmymonster · 07/02/2009 10:06

I hated them the first time round. My parents forced me to go to a trampolining birthday party wearing a pink batwing jumper with mickey mouse on the front. I'm sure I was about 10. I cried but they still made me wear it.

Saying that I chose to wear a luminous pink and green shell suit so...

Oh and Harem pants are the most hideous thing I've ever seen, except maybe those gold pants...

Lemontart · 07/02/2009 10:18

The gangs of teenage girls round here are similar, CarryONUpTheLiffey. I can only wonder at how long it takes them every morning in order to get to school. So glad not to have to be a teenager again and not looking forward to my kid?s teenage peer pressure years either. The effort and worry is so much more than when I was a kid - and I had my fair share of clothes and make up angst as a teen. Even the less fashion conscious teens now are immaculately made up with perfect hair. Going very American I think.

My mate told me her 15 yr old wanted her teeth whitened for her 16th birthday present ...

That OP link is shocking - every outfit it bloody awful. Is that confirmation that I am beyond help in the fashion stakes and very much in my middle age? [sob]
