Yes agree with most people here. Too much obvious Boden is not a good look but they do have some good quality basic items which are very good value especially if bought in the sale. I too, buy my DCs clothes a year in advance from the Boden sale as the styles don't change much and the quality and colours are great. I think it's good value as they last and last.

thinkingaboutdrinking · 15/01/2009 13:24

I have a coat from Boden and I get compliments every time I wear it - it is bright red so not boring.... and I am definately not middle aged!
Although am usually very crap with clothes

MrsSeanBean · 16/01/2009 08:10

I am rather partial to the 'fun' tank tops. What is the general MN opinion on these - acceptable or not?

higgle · 16/01/2009 09:34

The last time I saw a "fun" tank top it was heing worn by our County Council social care purchasing lead, delivering a very dry talk on increasing capacity. I thought it was rather nice, but totally inappropriate!
I prefer the v necked tops to the U shaped ones - perhaps because I remember the originals in the 70's and it sometimes doesn't feel good to do the same thing twice. Feel very embarrassed to admit that when I first saw Boden spring preview the knitted sassy dress in brown really took my eye, think I may have come to my sesnses on that one now but the linen shirt dress in red is looking very seductive.

CioccolataCalda · 16/01/2009 09:43

So here's the rules:

  1. Stop buying mini Boden when you're kids are at least 6.
  2. Only buy women's Boden if you really like it. ie. NOT because it is Boden.
  3. None of the 'fun'/'sassy' stuff will make you either fun nor sassy.
  4. I can't wear it anyway as I am a size 12 and riduculously short at 5'3" making me far too short and stumpy to carry off the 'look'.

Otherwise, knock yourself out with it!!!

MrsSeanBean · 16/01/2009 09:46

Wise advice Cioccolata

Point 2 applies to anything I reckon, it's so easy to be seduced by a 'label' marketing crap.

MrsSeanBean · 16/01/2009 09:49

I am average height but have disproportionately short arms. I scan reviews for complaints from 'normal armed' buyers and then buy like crazy!

Divineintervention · 16/01/2009 09:53

Boden is great for kids, aside from the clearly 'boden' in your face may as well have boden written on the front. It avoids boys dressed like men and girls like little tarts.

MrsSeanBean · 16/01/2009 09:58

Oh yes Divine, I can't stand it when children's clothing (or adults come to that) has a brand name emblazoned on it - Bench? Hooch?

LiffeyKidman · 16/01/2009 10:25

i don't have one single item of boden's in my wardrobe.

jenkel · 16/01/2009 10:53

I like the girls clothing and buy quite a bit, but have never bought anything for me.

mrsmike · 16/01/2009 11:09

Has anyone got this dress in boden sale
can't see the sleeves ? Would like to know what the sleeves are like?

mrsmike · 16/01/2009 11:15

Oops just realised the other colours show the sleeves

nappyaddict · 31/01/2009 13:43

Those of you that hate slogans would you dislike something like this

Heated · 31/01/2009 13:58

I like the bright colour NA and the cute picture so the slogan wouldn't put me off but the ones that say 'Here Comes trouble' or 'Boys will be boys' with negative connotations I dislike.

But why did you ask?

nappyaddict · 31/01/2009 14:17

Just sorting out some clothes to give people at baby group and trying to decide who to give what to!

What about something like this or this

Heated · 31/01/2009 18:54

What a nice thing to do My favourite is the first one simply because I've never seen it before and I love the vivdness of it.

mrsbaldwin · 01/02/2009 12:10

I bought my DH some really nice thick cotton plain Tshirts a couple of years ago - nothing to externally identify them as Boden. They're good quality and have worn really well.

After that I bought my late grandmother (then 80ish) a red wool cardy to wear at her old people's lunch group - she was definitely the trendiest looking there.

Since then Boden have rained me with catalogues.

Last year, though, the men's Tshirts were more identifiably Boden, with some kind of logo on the outside (no, no, NO!). As I don't find Boden man sexually attractive I haven't bought him any more.

Anyway... I filled in their market research questionnaire maybe last summer when there was the usual photo of David and Samantha Cameron posing in their Boden outfits on a Cornish beach.
"Do I want to look like a member of the Conservative Party on holiday?" I asked, rhetorically. "No thanks! That's why i don't buy your womenswear for myself. But my 80-something granny looked really great in her cardigan!"
