I am so rubbish at this... if you had a living room with cream walls and wooden floors and brown leather sofas, what colour...

... curtains would you go for?

DoubleBluff · 17/11/2008 22:35

Rio Pistachioo!!

emkana · 17/11/2008 22:40

Very nice doublebluff, but I don't think dh would like it.

Personally I'd go for cream curtains and add colour with cushions and accessories. Cheaper to change later! Patterns date so quickly nowadays, unless you go for something really classic.

emkana · 17/11/2008 22:47

what about something like this?

OP posts:
nancy75 · 17/11/2008 22:48

that is nice material

emkana · 17/11/2008 22:48

even better?

OP posts:
nancy75 · 17/11/2008 22:49

i think i like the 1st one, but it might depend on how big your windows are.

emkana · 17/11/2008 22:51

The windows are big - there are French doors and two tall windows

actually, looking at it again, if you could get cushions in the same orange as the 2nd one that could really brighten up the room. not much help am i?

ChasingSquirrels · 17/11/2008 22:52

i like those, not sure which one best.

twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 22:52

I had that combination in my old house and we had deep red/burgandy curtains with toned accessories.

In my new house we are cream walls with beige carpets ( pictures on profile with the orange curtains)and we have gone for orange as the curtains were orange.

So we have this rug with some of the matching damask cushions

the brown and orange cushions on here and some larger plain ones in creams and brown

We always have orange roses and lillies over the mantle piece,

I have some coordinating throws to add more comfort as the cream walls can make it look stark.

I also have a fab Indian wall hanging which has lots of reds and oranges.

nancy75 · 17/11/2008 22:54

i think with really big windows the 2nd could be slightly overpowering when closed. its really hard when you look at it on a computer trying to imagine it 100x bigger

twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 22:55

my old front room is on here, not a great picture and you can;t see the feature wall but you are going for all cream anyway

nancy75 · 17/11/2008 22:56

twin set, i have seen your house loads today! where did you get the little book case thingy in your dds room?

twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 22:57

vertbaudet

twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 22:58

I am hoping one of you will buy it!

emkana · 17/11/2008 22:58

I really like that terracotta leaf design I linked to, but am so insecure whether it will look good!

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 23:00

nancy they don;t sell it anymore but some ebay sellers have them on ebay brand new.

ChasingSquirrels · 17/11/2008 23:00

i really like it.
are leather sofa's comfortable and cosy? considering one but always had fabric (apart from a fake leather one in the tropics - which was vile as you had to peel yourself off it).

Shitemum · 17/11/2008 23:01

OP - long thread, but I would go for turquoise velvet, i just bought some from IKEA...

also all the burnt orange etc that other people have said...

twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 23:01

I liked the first fabric you linked to.

nancy75 · 17/11/2008 23:01

twinset, its lovely and where i live would be £435ooo not £135000, blackpools a bit far for me tho!

Emkana is there a shop near you that sells sanderson fabric? you really need to see it to get a proper idea.
as long as you can get co ordinating accessories i think it would look lovely (still not decided on 1st or 2nd)

twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 23:02

I have real leather sofas and sometimes have to do the peel thing.

I find them very practical and comfy apart from the arms which are at a right angle to the seat, hence all our cushions.

emkana · 17/11/2008 23:03

twinset, do you mean the very first, the red one?

I really like the terracotta leaf one but am worrying whether I will get the accessories right. What cushions go with that, and what rug? So might have to go safe with red after all, or even cream?

Sorry, going round in circles here!

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 17/11/2008 23:03

I think we are going to have to sell for under £125 which is less than we paid.
