even though dc hasn't actually arrived yet (overdue),i got an eternity ring for popping out dd (thinking my fanjo was on fire mmight have upped the spend limit on that one!!! ) but as we are officially skint i had mentioned previously to dh jewellery and the like was a no no now for our spending, but today when we were out mooching rould the shops, dh picked out a lovely huge slouchy radley bag, in a sort f pale petrol blue colour with a pale brown mustardy thick soft handle to sit on you shoulder!

Very yummy and i'm very happy with it! But can't have it til dc arrives!

It even came in a nice big boxy bag (not it's fabric protective bag but a radley shopping bag!!!!!
So, what did your dh get you to show their eternal thanks for popping out your dc?

Conversely, my sister, who is very materialistic, expected everybody to buy her gifts for getting her tubes tied.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 16/10/2008 15:29

Bone of contention in our house- I hinted for an eternity ring, and got.....a weightwatchers chicken sandwich. DH has always been nothing if not practical!

After that, I didn't even bother hinting with the next two babies! I do agree though that it would have been a nice gesture of appreciation

sherbetdipdab · 16/10/2008 15:33

I got a pearl necklace no, really I did

conkertree · 16/10/2008 15:54

righttoroam - as others have said - nobody has a baby in the hope that they might get a diamond at the end of it - that would be ridiculous.

but there is no reason that those of us lucky enough to have wonderful dh/dps who surprise us with lovely gifts shouldnt acknowledge that. dh gave me a card with his that pretty much said how proud he had been to be in the labour room with me and watching the start of new life was the most amazing thing he'd been involved in, and he'd gone out the next day and got the necklace as a little token of his love and how happy he was. he still did the housework/cooking etc etc (still does do a lot of it) and the cuddling up as a new family cant be beaten, but that doesnt mean a gift isnt nice as an additional thing.

i wouldnt for a moment expect to get something next time round cause it was a spontaneous gift that made it so perfect.

just dont think you need to be bitter about other people sharing stories about thoughtful gifts.

My DH is not the sort to buy presents (well we are quite poor so that's sensible of him) but I saved up and bought myself an amazing ring when the twins were about 9 months old. I do tell people who admire the ring that it was my present to myself for having the twins naturally. Lucky ladies who get given stuff spontaneously!

shhhh · 16/10/2008 16:12

lol sherbert

MamaHobgoblin · 16/10/2008 16:12

Nowt. He's lovely and generous and supportive and does his fair share of babycare, still gets up in the night if DS doesn't need a feed, etc. But buying stuff like flaars when I'm ill, let alone when I've just delivered him his son'n'heir, doesn't occur to him. Shouldn't bother me, but it does.

I did get a Happy Mother's Day card from him the day DS was born (I was induced on Mothering Sunday!).

ruthosaurus · 16/10/2008 16:17

Mine has been ordered asked to go and stock the fridge up with all the food I haven't been allowed to or able to eat for the last few months, so I'm expecting him to turn up with a roquefort and smokes salmon sandwich. But I wanna balloon now as as well.

Diamonds? I'll be bloody lucky, we're skint. I might get some really big pants and a home pedicure. No rings would fit on my massive flippers anyway.

gingerwench · 16/10/2008 16:21

The day after giving birth, I was treated to a fantastic spread of gooey cheese, pate, quality bread and red wine. It was truly phenomenal and almost orgasmic!

I'd have been a bit concerned if out of our joint money he'd bought a big ring

MiloMummy · 16/10/2008 16:24

I wanted an eternity ring because when I was a kid I misheard and thought it was called a Maternity ring and you got given one when you had your first child!! Made sense to me at the time :-)

Didn't actually get anything for either though!

werewabbit · 16/10/2008 16:26

I got a new laptop for pushing out ds1... so that I could 'work on dh's website while the baby was napping'!@#@$!!

Nothing for ds2, just business as usual.

Saddlebags · 16/10/2008 16:27

I got a dishwasher after DD1. But only because they were doing a special offer at the shop and you got a Sky dish installed for free.

yousaidit · 16/10/2008 16:32

milomummy: they probably were originaly called Maternity rings, itys just decades of campaigning from blokes got it changed to eternity rings for a bt of lee-way about buying them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a bunch of flowers that the hospital moved to a window somewhere - never to be seen again.

I wasn't bothered I had my lovely DS to take home anyway.

It would've been nice to get a ring / jewels etc., but honestly and truly I wasn't in the slightest bit bothered that I didn't get anything else.

ruthosaurus · 16/10/2008 16:45

Is that deal with the dishwasher and sky+ still on?

OldieButGoldie · 16/10/2008 16:51

Bunch of chrysanths off a garage forecourt.

For him that was quite impressive and I'm still convinced MIL was behind it

mummyhill · 16/10/2008 16:57

Box of choc's both times. Twas fine cause we were and still are skint

ditheringdora · 16/10/2008 16:58

what a relief! thought everyone's dh would've got them diamonds etc. dh was let go one week before dd was born. during the week he got a new job and I was so relieved I bought him a really expensive watch!
I got lovely flowers but this time around I'm upping the stakes!!!

loobylu3 · 16/10/2008 17:21

I must admit I was a bit upset when didn't get even a card from DH on the birth of DS as it was also my 30th birthday!
To be honest would rather not have diamonds. Would just prefer him to be around for lots of support.

Cokie · 16/10/2008 17:30

I am hoping for a nice sparkly ring but I guess I will get nowt. DH blames the stock market for lack of disposable cash and therefore none essential shopping is banned or severly limited at the moment...

pluto · 16/10/2008 18:21

The Sunday Times and a bottle of champagne that I'd put in the fridge beore setting out to hospital 48 hours previously.

lol yousaidit, either that or campaign from certain mner's who were against gift buying .

shhhh · 16/10/2008 18:54

cokie,a tip for your dh...yeah the stock market is not at its best now BUT a diamond and the metal surrounding it is an investment.. Tell him...it can only go up .

BexieID · 16/10/2008 19:03

I think I had some roses/flowers delivered.
