even though dc hasn't actually arrived yet (overdue),i got an eternity ring for popping out dd (thinking my fanjo was on fire mmight have upped the spend limit on that one!!! ) but as we are officially skint i had mentioned previously to dh jewellery and the like was a no no now for our spending, but today when we were out mooching rould the shops, dh picked out a lovely huge slouchy radley bag, in a sort f pale petrol blue colour with a pale brown mustardy thick soft handle to sit on you shoulder!

Very yummy and i'm very happy with it! But can't have it til dc arrives!

It even came in a nice big boxy bag (not it's fabric protective bag but a radley shopping bag!!!!!
So, what did your dh get you to show their eternal thanks for popping out your dc?

Flowers and really really big pants.
No presents but he flew back from China just in time so he was my present!

woodstock3 · 16/10/2008 11:06

nothing. and he ate all my labour snacks from my hospital bag (which admittedly i never ate because i had a caesarean, and it was all over in 15 mins).
are you still entitled to a push present if you dont push?

Flightattendant2 · 16/10/2008 11:19

I think really I'd be happy enough just to find someone willing to be there with me and possibly even get married or something.

that would do nicely. I don't anticipate it happening now but if it did I think I'd be so blown away I wouldn't care if he bought me anything.

conkertree · 16/10/2008 11:56

sorry havent read the whole thread but just wanted to add that my husband bought me the most beautiful necklace - delicate little interweaving strands of white gold with little diamonds - absolutely loved it - very impressed with his taste.

and also a prawn baguette.

ilovemyghds · 16/10/2008 12:57

Nothing for DC1 or DC2 - wouldn't have minded some flowers though! After DC1 no one bought me flowers at all, I mentioned this to family members throughout my second pregnancy and had a couple of bunches after DC2 (not from DH though)!

On my due date with DC3 DH gave me a lovely box of organic mum to be/new mum smellies which I really appreciated. He said there was no point waiting til after the birth to give them as I would have been too busy staring at the baby to acknowledge them!

I am not really a jewellery person anyway so wouldn't have wanted anything like that, but don't see anything wrong with having one as a gift.

Mysignaturedishismince - I would have been really upset not to have had the mothers day remembered too! On my 1st mothers day we were sat in bed for ages and no mention of it until about an hour after we had woken up. I was silently trying not to cry and working out ways in which to kill him at the same time. It turned out that he was waiting for me to finish BF DC1 so that he could take him out of the room and bring him back in 'holding' my card.

Baby showers are another matter IMO - one of my more extravagant friends suggested this when I was pg with either DC1 or 2 (can't remember) and I really put my foot down about not having one - was really worried she was going to plan some sort of secret one.

righttoroam · 16/10/2008 13:41

Sorry no time to read the whole thread - but are you lot for real?!!
Who cares about diamonds when you've got your gorgeous baby, whole and healthy? I didn't do it to get a diamond ring, and wouldn't swap my experience of pregnancy and birth with that of my dp, standing by and watching it all.
Of course you want him to say how clever and brave you are for growing a baby and getting him/her out, however it happens, but I'd rather snuggle up in bed with my new expanded family than have a flashy rock on my finger.
Anyone every wonder if materialism has got a bit out of control??

Habbibu · 16/10/2008 13:45

Hmm. Well, I got someone who cleaned the house, made meals and endless cups of tea, did the shopping and insisted that I put my feet up and rest as much as possible. And who also suggested that as I was doing all the feeding, he'd do most of the nappies. Better than diamonds by a long way!

PuzzleRocks · 16/10/2008 13:45

Don't be silly, no one has a baby to receive diamonds and of course everyone is delighted with their child. A gift is just an added bonus, why does it bug some people?
Do you refuse Christmas and Birthday presents too?

3catstoo · 16/10/2008 13:46

Nothing, nothing and nothing!!!!

PuzzleRocks · 16/10/2008 13:47

That was to righttotroam.

Habbibu, DH does all that too but if he wants to buy me a gift on top of that, who am I to say no?

shhhh · 16/10/2008 13:53

rtr, we are not saying we have babies to receive gifts BUT are discussing gifts that were bought as a thankyou from dp/dh...

You know, like cards people send to others to say "thankyou" or gifts kids buy for teachers to say "thankyou". Nothing wrong with it imo. Different ways to say thankyou, from flowers, verbally saying it, hugs, gifts etc...
IMO its also a nice memento esp if a ring etc.

So if your dh/dp bought you a gift for having your lo/s would you turn it away ..???

yousaidit · 16/10/2008 13:53

Righttoroam:its not about diamond or materialism!!!

When i raised this thread (lightheartedly but i now sense i will be the figure on a few bonfires now ) it was because i was, on both occasions, genuinly chuffed and not expecting dhto splash out on a token gesture of really any sort to acknowledge having our children.

Do i think it should be expected by mums to have any type of delivery acknowledged materially? No!

But its bloody well welcome when it is!!!

Sometimes, its nice to get somethig you don't expect and then you are so happy you post a thread to tell people and some pewople miht tel you nice tales about what happened when they had their dc!!! Ie, its a bit lighthearted?

Oh, and i'm still o/due so not used the bag yet!!!

Habbibu · 16/10/2008 13:54

Puzzle, that's fine, obv, but I'd just hate for dh to see this thread and somehow feel guilty, or that he should have got me a present - I couldn't have asked for anything more from him than I've already had in spades.

Scarletibis · 16/10/2008 13:58

Nothing, but didn't expect anything. Don't know anyone else who got a present for giving birth either.

And while we're on the subject I don't get eternity rings anyway - aren't they really given because women nag ask hint for them?

shhhh · 16/10/2008 14:02

scarletbits, er no.

You know, some men like to shower their dp/dw with gifts. You may nag for things but not everyone does..

Dh, sent me flowers on Monday..what for....nothing, just to brighten up my day and to say he loved me. BTW, yes he tells me this everyday BUT sometimes loves to surprise me. The same as I do with him, I bake him a cake, or buy him something I know he would like (a top or magazine etc). No harm in it. Depends on what the relationship is like I guess.

freakypenguin · 16/10/2008 14:03

nothing. doesn't bother me. but i think a lot of DH/Dps might be shown this thread by way of a hint!

VanillaPumpkinLantern · 16/10/2008 14:05

Just read first few posts. I got fuck all too .

Habbibu · 16/10/2008 14:08

freaky - that's what bothers me a bit, tbh. It's obviously nice if your partner wants to do/buy something for you for any reason, but I think making an expectation out of something like this is unfair.

JulieTwo · 16/10/2008 14:14

Sweet fanny adam ...

shhhh · 16/10/2008 14:17

habbibu, we aren't expecting gifts..if you read the op and other posts since you will see that people aren't saying "oh im having a baby and I want dh/dp to buy me x"

We are posting saying we were bought x and how nice it is to be showered with such lovely things.

shhhh · 16/10/2008 14:19

Oh and im sure if your dh/dp didn't want to buy anything then he would say so..?!

Times I have said to dh "oh thats lovely..hint hint hint..." only to be met with "no chance" ! lol.!

The men are adults and can make their own decisions iykiwm...

Linwin · 16/10/2008 14:29

Completely off the point but can anyone explain to me the whole Radley craze thats going on at the minute.

Bags with little dogs on?

Sourdough · 16/10/2008 14:49

After DD1 was born, DH arrived with an armful (well, a few) Calla Lillies.
I was extremely impressed as these are my favourite flowers (he's usually useless at presents) and told him so.
He harrumphed, and informed me that I had told him to get them whilst under the influence of the many and varied pain relievers I had during my 26 hour labour.
So much for thoughtfulness.

shhhh · 16/10/2008 15:01

not aware of a craze..? Radley has been around for yearssssssssssssssssssss..!

platypussy · 16/10/2008 15:05

I got SFA. All around me were surrounded by balloons and flowers and I cried.
