even though dc hasn't actually arrived yet (overdue),i got an eternity ring for popping out dd (thinking my fanjo was on fire mmight have upped the spend limit on that one!!! ) but as we are officially skint i had mentioned previously to dh jewellery and the like was a no no now for our spending, but today when we were out mooching rould the shops, dh picked out a lovely huge slouchy radley bag, in a sort f pale petrol blue colour with a pale brown mustardy thick soft handle to sit on you shoulder!

Very yummy and i'm very happy with it! But can't have it til dc arrives!

It even came in a nice big boxy bag (not it's fabric protective bag but a radley shopping bag!!!!!
So, what did your dh get you to show their eternal thanks for popping out your dc?

I knew that DH was likely to get something because his brothers had done it for both of their wives, so I said to him that if he was going to spend silly money on something, I'd rather we got our ensuite done than spend money on jewellery we couldn't afford!!

I wanted it done before I gave birth and it was - just. The guy who did it finished the day before I went into labour and I forced my poor DH to paint it while I was literally lying on our bed having contractions (v. mild and irregular at this stage!).

Well, I was say 'poor' DH - I was the one about to spend two days in labour, so I think I 'win'!!!

tostaky · 16/10/2008 07:42

I don't think he would think about getting me something... so I bought myself (with our money) a really really nice leather bag (ok it's a baby's change bag, but it is so nice im using it as a normal handbag while im waiting for the baby!!)

i mean, i totally deserve it!

sammysam · 16/10/2008 08:16

Absolutely FA from dp.......

But my mum bought me a lovely silver bracelet-at least she cares

Thepuddingchef · 16/10/2008 08:26

nowt, nothing not a flipin thing for either i might add, double

mamadiva · 16/10/2008 08:35

My DP went and got me and DS some new clothes for leaving hispital

And a bottle of voddy with a take away for me coming home not the sweetest thing I know but it is for mhy DP honestly LOL.

pinkmunkee · 16/10/2008 08:41

Nothing here. Although he did say I could choose the name as my reward (!). Until I chose one he didn't like, then he had to backpedal. That was my reward in the end- watching him squirm.

WeeBesom · 16/10/2008 08:57

Fuck all here too, both times but it didn't surprise me!

igivein · 16/10/2008 08:57

Nothing initially, but he did go down to Asda and buy me some 'big knickers' because mine were catching my cs scar. The woman at the check-out waved them in the air and shouted down the check-outs to get the price, so I think going to get them 'cost' him a lot!

katycaterpiller · 16/10/2008 09:04

My Dad gave my Mum a book entitled "As I lay dying" after I was born. My DH much more romantic which affected Dad, so I'm happy to say Mum was given a beautiful diamond ring recently when Dad got an inheritance.

macaco · 16/10/2008 09:07

I'd never even heard people did this! Gutted. I'd have asked for something if I'd known.

AprilMeadow · 16/10/2008 09:08

For ds i was given an aquamarine and diamond ring. Was nudged A LOT and i even told him the one i would like.

For dd i dont remember if i was given anything, but she was early and arrived 4 days before my birthday so i probably got a combined gift.

Having a gift seemed so important when pg with ds and after but with dd i dont think i even thought about it. I was happy with my lot. Dh is fab at choosing presents for me, but best of all he is there for the kids every day and i couldnt ask for a more supportive husband

HolidaysQueen · 16/10/2008 09:08

He brought me some fresh pineapple in hospital (he even cut it himself rather than buying ready prepared, so he must really love me ) and then I got home to find he had bought me a chocolate eclair to have with my first cuppa.

Both preferable to diamonds IMO

jessia · 16/10/2008 09:18

OK so am I the only person who
a) bought their DH a present to give him after the birth to say thanks for being with me (a watch for DD1 and a wallet for DD2 - entirely for practical reasons as his were falling apart at the respective times) and
b)was given as a present after DD2 (can't remember if he gave me anything after DD1) a pair of flipflops I have never worn flipflops. They look (and are, after experimenting with the ones he bought me) vrey uncomfortable, and not what you need to climb up and down our steep spiral stairs with a shot-to-pieces fanjo, new baby and 20mth-old DD1 with severe separation trauma clinging to your skirt...

But he is a star anyway (cooking, looking after us all, shoulder to cry on, etc.) and just not very good at presents, have always known that so did not surprise me. I always end up wondering before every birthday and Christmas what he will come up with and afterwards just why he came up with it

yousaidit · 16/10/2008 09:19

holiday queen, i can't remember whether i saw them in Asda or Tescos, but there are some double chocolate eclairs that i have my eye on... i wold love to find them in the fridge when i get home, along with a tart that has loads of soft cheese in... and have them for a nice tea with a coffee with some disaronni in that my mum and dad brought me back from their hols taht i haven't been able to crack open yet.....

Miu Miu bag! Not the most traditional of choices but I was very happy nonetheless!

yousaidit · 16/10/2008 09:29

Jesia, what a very thoughtful person you are! If I tell dh you did this, he'll kick himself! Dc is now o/de and dh's birthday is in a few days, all he says is, this will be all my birthday and christmas presents in one (i'd have taken his token b'day presents back if he'd said this earlier, but they were all in sale )

Aside from presents after baby, like you mention about birthdays and christmas, my ds dh bpught her two bottles of radox and a book about withcraft for one birthday. she doeasn't have any use really for either!!

MyPumpkinDsHappyHalloweenBday · 16/10/2008 09:34

most think its the done thing i dont. i got a new ring because my other engagement ring did not match my wedding band. and always said i wanted a new one.

but what is so great he buys me flowers (not always big boquet) on dc's birthdays as a thank you to me for his children. and he is a yummy daddy too and does his fair share.

MyPumpkinDsHappyHalloweenBday · 16/10/2008 09:38

what i meant was most guys are happy to buy a gift for their wife and others are maybe not in a position or just dont think its necessary, its not something i go aroung bragging about, but if asked about the ring i tell.

BlueChampagne · 16/10/2008 09:49

I'd never heard of push presents either! DH hadn't been as enthusiastic as I'd have liked while I was pg, so I wrote him a love letter to mark our transition from a couple to a family, and gave it to him as soon as DS was born (yeah, maximise the emotions), and what I got was a besotted new Dad - result

luckymummy74 · 16/10/2008 10:03

I got a locket to put a photo of DH and DD in when DD1 was born and an eternity ring when DD2 was born 6 months ago....as our family is now complete. I am extremely grateful for both and feel it in some way compensates for the shit I went thru when pregnant and in labour !!!

mysignaturedishismince · 16/10/2008 10:17

I didn't expect a push present (though got a nice meal and champagne both times).

But was DEVASTATED not to receive anything on my first Mother's Day when DD was 2 months old.

Wept copiously and now DH always remembers to buy me a bunch of daffs.

Would be nice to have jewellery of course - but somehow those daffs mean more.

weenawoo · 16/10/2008 10:19

Mine went home tidied the entire house, put flowers in all the vases and bought me big slab of brie to eat. This was what I wanted at the time.
He did say that I was due a good Christmas pressie this year but, think he's hoping I've forgotten this conversation

meep · 16/10/2008 10:20

dh stocked up the fridge with prawn cocktail, pate and runny brie - best present ever!

hammouhouseofhorror · 16/10/2008 10:36

I didn't even know men did this....so nothing. Even said about Mothers Day 'why should I do anything, you're not my mum?).

KimiTrickOrTreat · 16/10/2008 10:50

With DS1 I got an eternity ring and a pound of prawns.
