Let's have a round up of this season's possibilities.

I need one; I want one: I'm going to get one. But I am not liking the reports of Boden leakage; and I am not liking at all the Primark one.

I'll start off shall I?

this one only works in black

I quite like this in red but it is too short

parka duffel thingy but quite expensive

nr 1

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 11:42

M&S seem to have lots of nicely designed parkas, but none of them (doh!) seem to be waterproof...

Are they mad?

Why not go down the sports route?

sports jackets such as berghaus

And may I draw your attention to:

Park from Blacks

QuintessentialShadow · 03/09/2008 11:49

PARKA from blacks, not park...

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 12:13

Hi QS, thanks, but not so keen on the 'sports' look - just doesn't work with any of my work clothes

That parka looks OK actually but not sure if it is actually waterproof...

Ho hum, will keep searching.

Anyone else got any new ideas?

apparently (according to the Times) either Aigle or Barbour are the way to go here: does anybody like this: parka and this is cool but has no hood: utility jacket?

I have boring parka from North Face bought at Blacks.

helsy · 03/09/2008 12:42

Cardigan Bay's third biggest clothing company have some

traceybath · 03/09/2008 13:29

i quite like this

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 13:47

actually tracy, I quite like that one but I'd have to shoot myself before buying a barbour...

hello helsy, shouldn't you be working?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 03/09/2008 15:55

Both the Barbours are surprisingly OK, but at the price!

MinkyBorage · 03/09/2008 16:00

love the HOwies one

cornsilk · 03/09/2008 16:04

m and m sports are ace

brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:05

a trench coat with a hood but not sure it's waterproof

actually I'm amazed at the number of trench coats that are not waterproof...aren't they meant to be worn in the rain ffs

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 16:13

God yes, those Aigle ones are just right but ohmigod at the price...

I suppose a good, well-fitting daily school run coat is an investment isn't it?

And I am actually liking the Barbour and Aigle quilted insert

OP posts:
brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:13

this is good for work

PoorOldEnid · 03/09/2008 16:15

the millets mac in a pac

in navy floral

brilliant

have worn from June onwards

lightweight and looks v nice

I think they only have the plain navy one on website

blithedance · 03/09/2008 16:17

is this style suicide, being from Hawkshead. Must point out I am not a regular customer.

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 16:20

ACtually I think that Hawkshead one is OK styling and vv cheap.

I'm still swayed by the vv expensive but lovely Schoffel one (249 quid though! jeez)

OP posts:
brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:21

american-looks so dull

brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:22

enid-is it actually waterproof though

I alwasy end up soaked in my pac a jac from millets

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 16:27

We're on different wavelengths here: I need hoods (think school run with pushchair - no hands for brolly)

But I like the smarter trenchy versions for when I'm not pounding to school in the rain but gently ambling to work...

dexter73 · 03/09/2008 16:28

I have a Barbour (only used for dog walking!!) and it is waterproof but has no hood and is quite short. Also being waxed it does smell a bit 'barbourish'!
When it is really wet I think style has to take a back seat to function.

brimfull · 03/09/2008 16:29

have you tried the fleece lined one from boden,is that the one that leaks?

WilfSell · 03/09/2008 16:31

Ah. I would never in a million years though wear an old-style Barbour in green with the cord collar though. That would be a step too far. My DH would have to leave home.

Sorry.

Yes, and can't be doing with any drips down back of neck or wet thigh action either...

Would it be bad to buy this?

It is waterproof corduroy [wtf?]... And I like it!

traceybath · 03/09/2008 16:35

Thats nice Wilf but i think for practicality i need something a little longer.

My DS school is like a bloody swamp in the rain and have baby as well so also need hood. I am v tempted by the barbour one i linked too - sort of stylish and not obviously barbour is it???
