Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

what is a moron?

LoveAndSqualor · 27/08/2008 09:51

Duchess, lol at the 'flora poste workout' ...

Hello all, apologies for very-extended-indeed absence - I've been up in darkest Northumberland staying with my mum for a couple of weeks; internet access intermittent, to say the least. Also, have been contending with a bit of a meltdown on the home front. DP and I are, I think, going to split up, and things are really fairly horrendous at the moment . Am in the process of trying to make a Relate appt, hum ho.

Still, all the more reason, I'm thinking, for some serious bootcamping. Did lots of lovely walking in Northumberland; also ate lots of lovely food . However, this is v good for me at the moment, as combination of breastfeeding, wriggly shouty baby and stress mean that I am getting actually quite thin. So my plan is to press on with eating lots of healthy calories of the dairy/avocado/nuts variety, combined with some medicinal alcohol ...

Off now to catch up with rest of thread. Lovely to see you all again!

WideWebWitch · 27/08/2008 09:57

Sorry to hear that L&S. Much sympathy.

Capp, a Moron is really an Omron pedometer but Sobernow called it a Moron one day and it stuck. well done

L and S so sorry to hear your news. You may remember that DH and I have had our issues over the past year - I don't know what's led to this with you and DP but counselling (both together and separately) has been very helpful to us, a relationship saver really. I lost weight when things were bad - I literally couldn't eat - and it didn't help, so you're right to try and concentrate on being a healhty as possible.

Ok there seems to be a consensus that running is the way to go! Capp would love to see your beginners guide if you can send me a link.

DH and I are having a pre-back-to-school summit tonight to see if we can work out ways to make life a bit less stressful when everyone is back to normal at school and work, plus planning in time for us both to do things we want to do - so I will make my bid for exercise time then!

www am jealous re: your commuting countdown (although yours is worse than mine). It really has become the bane of my life - am going to put in a bid for more days WFH when things settle down again after the holiday period.

moonshine · 27/08/2008 16:45

Hello all. I have been catching up with the thread but there are about a thousand posts since my last one so apologies for just being bloody selfish and talking about me (apart from L&S - sorry it look likes the separation is going to happen. And WWW - I can't believe you are pre-menstrual because it means we have de-synched - I am now post-menstrual).

Your glam French holidays sound fab but, I must admit, I did actually enjoy my very-British Butlins adventure after dreading it for so long - weather was often bad but there was lots to do indoors there, mostly spent in the swimming pool - I even managed to be not so totally self-conscious although I spent a lot of my time trying to submerge myself in the water up to my neck (and I don't think there were so many chich French ladies there ).

The good news is I ate and drank very merrily but did not put any weight on (hooray)! The bad news is I have since got back to, I thought, some serious bootcamping and have not lost a single sodding ounce (boo). I am so frustrated as I need to get into my only going out dress next week but there is no way that's going to happen. And I'm wondering just how little I have to eat to get anywhere weight-wise.

But I am determined to carry on with getting fit which for me includes jogging slowly running and would love to swim once a week but am wondering if I can pluck up the courage to don my costume again at the risk of being seen by someone who knows me .

Is everyone back from their hols now? Are we having a new renewed autumn bootcamp effort (from us that need it)?

WideWebWitch · 27/08/2008 21:15

MOONSHNE! I have been thinking abovut you today as you said "don't worry, it'll be winter soon" and it nearly is, hurrah! And I have been in opaques the WHOLE SUMMER!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 27/08/2008 21:17

Ah, maybe my dates are wrong? Tried to work out on train tonight but couldn't but feel sure have pmt, either that or am just inordinately bad tempered! , well, actually, ought to be

OP posts:
moonshine · 27/08/2008 23:11

I know I should be in bed but having last check in. I have been wearing my opaques this week as well WWW! It is still a little too humid but it's nearly autumn proper - hooray .

Marina · 28/08/2008 08:35

Good morning everyone - have managed to scroll through thread properly now so I see it is congrats to saggars and camm's dds, commiserations to sobernow re fleas (such small bites, so itchy), LOL at Duch and the mop - I came back from France with a pack of Carrefour Savon de Marseille floor soap and the smell would have even the biggest mop-dodger scrubbing away.
Moonshine, I think I missed your previous outpouring of woes...glad to hear the hols were good at least . Can you bear to rehash?
But L&S, I don't know what to say other than I am so sorry things are no better between you and dp after a summer of effort. Good luck with Relate, I am sure you both know that Relate is also there to help you achieve a good parting if the relationship is definitely over. Thinking of you and sending you some calorific and warm vibes (psst, fancy a slice of brioche with confiture de lait?)
Checked in with SlimyWorld last night and was pleased to see I was not the only tanned person looking pretty shifty. 2lb on, find that ecstatically implausible.
Am definitely on for an Autumn Big Push. Just before I went away I went to the funeral of such a lovely woman, a friend to everyone in our community, taken well before her time due to heart problems . That is not going to be me in 10 years' time, I've decided.
Welcome Capp . Drooling at www's diet is definitely a bonding activity on here, as is refusing to believe anything camm says about feeling in need of an overhaul
Meant to ask batters, how has dd's health been over the summer? Has she had a regroup?

LoveAndSqualor · 28/08/2008 09:31

Good morning, one and all - thanks so much for the good wishes, really helps. We now have an appt with Relate the week after next, and though tbh I think there is little chance of us salvaging the relationship, as you say, Marina, we should hopefully be able to find a way to end things as gracefully as possible. And we're going to have a relationship for the rest of our lives, anyway, through DS, so working on that is crucial.

Have been enjoying reading through the various reports of holidays, french, british, fleas and all. Northumberland was, I'm glad to report, flea-free, though the grandparents were swarming. Had such a wonderful, wonderful time - really relaxing, great to be able to hand DS over a bit, even managed a solo-trip into Newcastle to buy trousers that fit while staying with grandparents mark two (dad and step-mum).

Soothed my spirit last night by roasting and chicken and cooking potatoes dauphinoises, which always helps , and watching Freaks and Geeks on DVD (has anyone seen? brilliant). Today, walking to shops with a friend in need of a wedding outfit, and swimming with ante-natalers this afternoon. All quite pleasant and healthful. DS something of a holy terror at the moment, but swimming is his form of meditation, so hopefully that will subdue him!

Yes Batters, I have managed opaques ALL summer. Even when I met dodgy women for dinner and had open toed heels on I had a pair of opaques underneath, cut off at the knees. Classy hey?

L&S, you're right about the relationship for the rest of your lives, I do hope Relate is helpful with that.

Marina, lol at tanned and shifty but I think 2lbs is fab, given holiday etc. I am scared to weigh tbh but no point anyway until after totm.

DofN, I have to say, you were SO right about it not mattering that I have tedious work to do for the last 8 weeks of my contract, I have got so many home chores out of the way as a result (Ocado online, organising school stuff, looking for other jobs, marvellous!) so you were completely right about that. Told someone yesterday about your chickens and they were impressed at £1 a chicken too.

Batters, how goes homework stuff? We start again next week and I am NOT looking forward to walking in to dh and ds looking stony faced and drawn due to falling out over 11+ tests. It's in a month, eek.

Last night had chicken breast wrapped inbacon and cooked on a bed of roasted carrots, green beans, garlic and red peppers, drizzled with olive oil. Drank wine, have been v v bad on that front this week, must get back to it next week. I am working at home tomorrow so no point in breaking the pattern tonight, frankly.

Where are Prufrock and Oi and foofoo and Sobernow and Iota and others?

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 28/08/2008 11:26

And 36 days of commuting left, now I have taken working from home into account! Can't WAIT!

Hello all. Quickly read through thread and pleased to see so many people keen as mustard for the Autumn push.

L&S - so sorry to read your news. Hope relate are able to help you both.

Marina - ouch at bites but Slimy 2lb is pretty good after a holiday.

WWW - don't know how you do tights in the summer. Floor skimming skirts for me.

Batters - how do you get your DD to work? DD1 has scholarship exams this year and this term is going to be incredibly tough but she will not knuckle down and revise. I've tried threats, sitting with her, bribery but nothing works.

Holiday in France was wonderful. Weather not brilliant but much easier with the children as didn't have to worry about suncream the whole time. Will definitely go back again when DS can take part in activities on the rivers. The house was superb and I would recommend it to anyone. Fairly active and ate pretty healthily; lost a couple of pounds despite wine consumption. Now need to get back to gym and on my bike. Really looking forward to it after being out of my routine for ages.

Marina · 28/08/2008 13:55

Yoyo, remind me where you were again?
Agree cooler weather was bliss, we still have a gallon of virtually untouched Factor 15 and an unused mosquito diffuser (we didn't see ONE, maybe the fleas chased them off).
LOL at customised opaques www. I am currently sharing my pockmarked ankles with the best of suburbia...

yoyo · 28/08/2008 14:58

We were in the Ardeche Marina. Breathtakingly beautiful scenery.

moonshine · 28/08/2008 17:29

Have you had a secret France meet-up - there was an awful lot of you over there ?

L&S - I loved Freaks and Greeks! I was very cross when they didn't recommission another series. We usually go to Northumberland in May (Berwick) but didn't this year and must say, apart from the 8-hour drive, I missed it.

Marina - 2lbs is rien. But Yoyo, did I read it right, you lost weight? On holiday? And drank wine?

I was dreading Butlins because someone who I don't dislike but would have preferred not to holiday with was there at the same time and I guess because of some old-fashioned middle-class prejudice and the image I had of it. But the 'campers' were mixed, there was lots to do, the swimming pool was fab and we even managed to escape to the real world of the beach . The worst thing was some of the queues and most of the evening entertainment stuff wasn't really our 'thing' (the arcades were though - the devil's own playground).

I bought some too-tight jeans today in a fit of madness as an incentive to pull my proverbial finger out. I also have been slaverishly been using Soap and Glory body wash and moisturiser (with those exfoliating gloves). It really is fab. And I'm raring to go for autumn. Shall we have some new rules/goals to spur us on? I feel very post-menstrually positive about success.

yoyo · 28/08/2008 19:41

Moonshine - glad Butlins worked out for you. Would you do it again? Which one did you visit?
Hope the snug jeans will soon be hanging from your hips. Must try that Soap and Glory stuff though I don't suppose it is still on offer in Boots.
And, tis true, I lost some weight. It is probably the muscle I gained in the gym reverting to fat!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 28/08/2008 19:43

Back from rainy Lancaster. ds2 is liking the uni and the course (especially the Study in Canada part - may need a 2nd mortgage)

Already thinking of holidays for next year and I'm quite fancying France.

Moonshine - I need new jeans too. What shape did you go for? I need some straightish ones I think but will probably end up bootlegged again.

I have to work tomorrow and then am back proper on Monday - where did those 6 weeks go then? I know that I haven't done much bootcamping that's for sure.

L&S - sorry about your news. Hope you can sort things out if that's what you want.

WideWebWitch · 28/08/2008 20:46

Hello

Today

3 sausages
salad with raw spinach, pine nuts, tuna, bacon, tomatoes and vinaigrette
salami, cheese
brazil nuts
chicken and spices and salad

and erm dh bought me some sweet cigarettes well, they're called candy sticks now but oh my, a pure sugar hit and most lovely too

and am drinking cava, which is still reduced 50% at Tesco, rude not to really

OP posts:
moonshine · 28/08/2008 22:33

WWW - been meaning to ask - is cava 'allowed' on IPD?

Yoyo - we went to Bognor (is that the one you used to visit?). And yes I think we would go again. It was actually quite relaxing. The dcs loved it and there were things we didn't have a chance to do which I would like to try (although I think I enjoyed the archery far more than dd!).

I don't think my jeans will ever fall off me sadly, but I will settle for no giant muffin top. They are straight ones from New Look . I have now decided that that is the best shape for me (or perhaps I am deluding myself) - I have short legs for my height, relatively slim hips and a huge tum and bum.

I have mixed feelings about the start of school. I've definitely enjoyed the absence of the frantic getting-the-dcs-out-of-the-house-in-time-with-tempers-in-tact but am looking forward to some 'normality' and yes, even routine.

I will now make myself have an early night for once. Night all.

oi · 28/08/2008 22:39

hellooo I am working at home tomorrow so feeling happy about that

had awful week at work, fight with boss, ended up in tears (at home, v v unlike me - have been feeling a bit low, might be PMT grrrr) but the week is nearly over. Think it's the shock of coming back to it tbh.

L&S much strength for your Relate session.

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2008 07:14

Moonshine, no, most definitely not. I have been drinknig this week, must get back on straight and narrow next week.

Oi, oh no, sorry to hear that. It is horrible going back after a holiday and realising you hate it, much sympathy.

Went to bed at 10.30 last night.

We do need some new rules/incentives. So I think anyone who wants to should post:

WHAT DO YOU WANT?
WHY DO YOU WANT IT?

me: I want to be a size 14
because I feel fine that size and don't look fat and will finally not mind if someone takes a photo of me.

Cammelia · 29/08/2008 10:23

Good Morning everyone !

Dd and I have been out for the last 2 days doing things before term starts: dental check-up, hair cut, buying new stationery etc.

On Wednesday we had lunch in a lovely little Italian and I had no pasta or pizza, just lovely vegetables with olive oil and cheese (oh, ok, and one glass of cold dry white wine - we went on the train, I wasn't driving)

Dd had the full pasta and pollo milanese and dessert. I've noticed she attracts lots of boy attention, I'm sure they think she's much older than 11

Yesterday I had natural yogurt for breakfast, to which I like to add wheatgerm (I'm always feeling the need to get lots of Vitamin B into my diet, I think its an anti-stress vitamin). Lunch was slightly unbootcampish but supper was mackerel and salad

I've received my first email today from the class rep liaison, there are 2 meetings scheduled within the first week of term
