but they love it!!

i can understand not wanting them dressed head to toe in the stuff but do you not even buy small items like wellies, slippers, trainers, dressing gowns, swimwear, socks, pants, vests etc with them on??

bizarre!!

Anything that gets ds1 to dress himself is fine by me. Not that I bought any of it - most of his clothes are hand-me-downs or from Grandma.

I am holding out against the Bratz clothing that dd wants though.

I try to avoid polyester clothing but there is nothing wrong with a cotton tee with a Dalek on it or whatever! I used to wear t-shirts emblazoned with my favourite bands (still do on occasion), it is natural to want to identify yourself with things that you enjoy.

As my eldest child will be starting reception in September - I may change my mind once ds is properly exposed to peer pressure etc.

was the 'expat' comment to me perhaps nappyaddict?

No- her knickers and socks have no characters on- I meant anything!
Her underwear is not expensive (ie boden 3 pairs for £22)- I think they're just from sainsbury, but they are plain or coloured patterns, not characters.

She doesn't have anything flashing either rofl!

I tend not to - we have Snoopy, Mr Men & Nemo & Miffy jim-jams, a Hello Kitty top & a couple of Lola bags.

6yo DD has a few Disney outfits for dressing up, but to be honest she's as happy in an ancient negligee my Granny gave her, or her pirate outfit, or ballerina kit, or most likely a combination of all of the above - with beads!

I don't really like clothes with a brand/character/slogan on the front (for me or the kids) but do buy character toys, books, etc.

Completely draw the line at anything Bratz though, just can't stand it - bleurgh.

pingu pants

that's it

posieflump · 23/07/2008 07:52

it doesn't bother me at all
all ds' pants are character pants - spiderman, doctor who, scooby doo

he has loads of scooby doo T shirts, a dr who one, power rangers and spiderman pjs, Mr Men T shirt from M&S

dd has a Peppa Pig T shirt and a Fifi one. She also has Scooby doo PJs. What's the harm -clothes is clothes is clothes imo

Disney pants - useful as Snow white is on the front so she knows they're on the right way round. A completely hideous pair of Dora pjs. Some rather cute C and L pjs which she won't wear now as she's off C and L.

Anything which won't be seen is OK, but I don't want her dressed like a walking ad for the Disney Corp, which she would leap at given half a chance.

We have quite a bit. Buzz Lightyear. Pants, socks, t-shirt, pj's.
And spiderman. Similar.
And thomas tank similar.

Ds is very into Buzz, Spiderman and Thomas.
Thus it makes sense. He loves all his clothes.I suppose he wear character stuff once a week or so.
He has been getting himself dressed for the last 2 years, since aged about 2, so I have no control over what he wears.
Today he is wearing Ralph Lauren Polo navy shorts and a Ralph Lauren shirt. Looks well smart.

Not keen on mickey mouse stuff. Or pooh bear stuff. I think that is just my preference.

sometimes, when im at M&S i'll pick up something for my daughter. she loves pink, so i tend to only buy something in pink so i know she'll definitly wear it.

Nothing with writing on, no characters. Why should I pay to advertise?I don't give in to whining or blackmail. I buy it so they wear what I buy. Doesn't seemt to be doing them any harm.

i dunno i just think they get enjoyment out of wearing things like pants with characters that they like on them and no one can even see them.

my dd (7) wears what SHE wants and there is little I can do about it these days. I fight other battles like getting her to do maths which take up any energy I have. I gave up long ago dressing her to my taste, she has her own taste

She likes anything Chinese so if it has Chinese characters all over it and preferably a scarey looking dragon or something, she'll love it. She wears Kung Fu tshirts, things with erupting volcanoes on the front. She has tshirts with Egyptian hieroglyphics all over them and she would love a lego star wars tshirt

OMG WHERE can you get cotton tshirts with daleks on them? She would love that too.

Oh now I see this is about DISNEY clothing. Well if she wanted something with disney characters all over it, it wouldn't bother me but I think she is too old for that stuff now.

Ds's had Thomas and Bob T shirts, Power Rangers tops and socks and some Spiderman stuff which ds 2 loves to bits and keeps as special...his choice
DD has Peppa Pig and Lazy town stuff and she loves it since its so girly. This is the 2 year old who chooses her own socks to match her clothes

I don't see the problem with it as long as its limited. I find kids in shell suits and branded sports wear more awful

We have quite a lot actually
Ds (3.7 yrs) has Tshirts with Soobydoo, Spiderman, Ben 10 (Ds is obsessed despite never having seen it)

Almost all his pyjamas have characters in ranging from Dr Who to Thomas the Tank Engine.

He also has a rather revolting zip up sweatshirt with spiderman on the front. He was being so helpful in the shop when we were looking for tshirts the other day that when he saw this and asked for it I got it for him despite hating it myself

Socks, vests and underwear are bought for convenience/cheapness and I just buy
whatever I can easily find so some of it has characters on some not.

I have to say his clothing can look quite chavvvy sometimes but I rather like confounding all the parental expectations at the rather posh nursery ds attends. Most of the children there don't wear much character clothing.

I do also buy nicer stuff but ds resolutely refuses to wear any shirts or polo neck shirts or anything with buttons on. I could of course insist but I really see no need to fight over clothing with him. There are many more important things that I take a stand on

And the Italian in my is at the children with 'no vests'

Don't you hardy Northern Europeans realise realise that unless the temperature is above 40oC your child is in dire danger of catching a draught on the chest (the most dangerous illness know to man) if you let them go without a vest

I don't buy it for dd yet because she's too young to really be in to any particular character. If she's a major fan of something when she's a bit older, then perhaps I'd get a few bits and bobs..

My step mum however is obsessed with buying character clothes for dd and dsd and I do find them a bit naff. They recently had matching (bleurgh) Fifi denim pinafore dress and t shirt outfits. DD is 14 months and dsd doesn't even like Fifi. Such a shame, they'd have been lovely without it

My2Monkeys · 24/07/2008 13:05

I do, both because they love them and also because it's sometimes the only thing easily available! I don't have any problem with things like pants, socks, pyjamas, or the odd t-shirt, wellies etc. I recently got my 4-year-old a Cars belt from H&M and his face just lit up, so that was well worth it!

DD has often had underwear and PJs in character clothing. She also has the odd t-shirt and bg and cap too. Can't see the probem with it. She also has many lovely other non-Character clothes.

I also let her hqve character bedding - her bedroom, her choice (within reason.)
