Looking for a unicorn pair of winter boots

Hello S&B experts. I live in trainers but find them a bit cold sometimes in winter. I am looking for flat boots to wear but I think I have ruined my ability to wear anything except trainers. My feet have got used to the lightweight “spongy” feel of trainers so even flat boots feel heavy and and hard on my soles like walking on planks of wood (if that makes sense!)

I have a pair of old classic Timberlands that I really like but they feel very heavy to wear if I was to walk around in them for more than an hour.

So anyone got suggestions for flat boots that feel lightweight-ish, are warm, feel padded and springy and look stylish??

Think boots to wear with jeans that I could walk about town for a couple of hours in. Everything I see online are just those Paver or Hotter boots that just look (sorry going to have to say it) granny-ish (they do look really comfy though!!)

Help wise Women of S&B!

Maybe the answer is to train up your feet back to being ok in regular boots?

ECCO, Josef Siebel, Legero all make comfortable boots, some are waterproof.

Might help if you could give an example of some you do like the look of so people understand your taste?

concertinacornflake · 17/10/2026 10:22

You may also have success with comfortable insoles inside regular boots.

cheezncrackers · 17/10/2026 10:25

Agreed - post some pictures of the kind of look you want to go for as that will help. Assuming you want ankle boots, if wearing with jeans?

We all have to get used to wearing boots again when winter rolls around. In the summer I go barefoot in the house and live in sandals or trainers otherwise. It's pretty normal!

StrongandNorthern · 17/10/2026 10:44

I get the Hotter/Pavers 'grannyish' comment completely - and I'm a granny!
(They are super comfy though, as are Skechers - which are often also waterproof).
My favourites though are a pair of Doc Martens - NOT archetypal heavy ones. These are really light. Can't post a link and I 've had them a few years but have a look in their website/in a DM shop - you might be surprised.

sorel! They do snow proper snow boots and other more lifestyle ones I love mine. Some are trainer style and everything in between and they are good offers on Amazon. Or hoka walking boots.

Thanks everyone will explore some of the suggestions. style wise something like this - but main criteria is not too heavy or thin plank like soles (but can only cope with small heel) - sorry very fussy!

What is a unicorn pair of boots please? I have absolutely no idea what unicorn
means in this context.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/10/2026 14:17

You are perfectly entitled to not like particular boots or brands - but it would be so much nicer if you could do that without the casual ageism.

Try DM soft leather with the DM double layer socks for warmth - but don’t rely on them on ice.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/10/2026 14:18

Not padded/springy but definitely comfortable.

DelphiniumBlue · 17/10/2026 14:24

Have a look at Fitflop boots. I had a pair some years ago, and they were very light and comfortable, if not the most elegant. If chunky is your look, then perhaps they'll work for you.

Tootingbec · 17/10/2026 14:27

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie apologies- I am heading towards 60 myself so definitely not a young person being casually ageist. I guess I could have said I don’t want boots that look like indoor slippers?

Have you looked at Fitflop boots? They have lovely comfortable thick soles, I have black leather ones and some Ugg style ones.

You want a Chelsea boot? You could try the Cole Haan ZerøGrand Chelsea boots. They have more trainer like soles.

Nuttyrubble · 17/10/2026 14:44

I have these, I've worn them for years now and they still look good. The fur lining makes them feel like slippers on

Sorry didn't notice you wanted a Chelsea boot style. I originally went in the shop for the Chelsea style as it was waterproof, and came out with these

florasl · 17/10/2026 15:10

My Fairfax and Favour Boudiccas are great with the sheepskin lining. Mine are really comfortable and are about 7 years old at this point.

Really? I've never seen unicorn used in that way. I'm not being funny here because I only know it in the mythological creature, or heraldry or sexual connotation butI did wonder when I saw the thread title if you only actualky had one leg.
Anyway I hope you get sone good suggestions on your theead OP.
