Upper lip hair removal

I’m looking for some advice on upper lip hair removal for my DD who is 13. She has beautiful dark hair and pale skin.
She wasn’t keen on trying the bleach when I suggested it. What’s the best way to keep it looking good all the time, I don’t want the regrowth to be worse than before she started removing it.

She’s old enough for waxing or threading.
I think shaving leaves blunt ends that appear darker, but the little facial razors are easy.

Hoping someone has some answers my daughter is similar but is younger. She has said she wants to do something about the hair after a classmate said she had a moustache. Why are kids so horrible! I want to help her but also aware of the repercussions of starting something so young and her getting the idea something is “wrong” when there isn’t

As a youth I used this. People are frightened by 'bleach' but it's safe and effective. Dyes hairs white so they aren't noticeable.

I now pluck and have found that it doesn't regrow any thicker.

Bleach is a faff imo and you just end up with a blonde moustache. I'd buy some wax strips and do it myself...Will be over in seconds. Or find a salon that will do it

Lomonald · Yesterday 16:06

Just take her to a salon and get it waxed if it is bothering her, it takes 5 minutes and job done, the jolene bleach is also fine.

HelloCheekyCat · Yesterday 16:09

DD started off using hair removal cream but it isn't great so she now uses this every two weeks or so. It really hurts so she only does it in short bursts.
Waxing would also be good because it's quicker, whatever you do don't shave because it will look.worse when it grows back.
Eventually the hair stops growing back with waxing/epilating so she's playing the long game

I saw it as the same as a haircut when my Dds were teenagers just something they got done, my dds asked me about lip hair removal at around 13, it wasn't something I had, but i took them to a local salon, the beauticians were fab, Dds felt more confident and "those girls" left them alone.

Wax or threading - she's old enough

Or hair removal cream for a younger child who is being bullied x

Depends on your daughter. At that age I'd have rather died than go to a salon and was quite pain averse. The bleach worked well.
Plucking is very good, cheap and no allergic reactions

cattac · Yesterday 16:21

The problem with waxing is that you have to let the hair grow to a certain length so the wax can grip it. That's okay for legs but I wouldn't want to wait out that regrowth time for facial hair. I use a little facial electric razor, or plucking.

SpeedOfLife · Yesterday 16:33

I think that’s what I’m most worried about, managing the re growth with waxing etc. Would be nice if we could manage it so she feels confident everyday at school.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions

In my experience the regrowth was fine and they just went between school terms iyswim, it will obviously depend on how dark it is,

Adelle5923 · Yesterday 16:45

Could you buy a wax kit and do it yourself for her? I bought one a few years ago and do my own and it’s brilliant. The regrowth isn’t likely to be problematic if you do it often enough - every couple of weeks should be fine. Obviously you could go to a salon but it’s more expensive overall if you need to do it often.

MeandT · Yesterday 16:45

Are there any posters with experience of IPL for upper lip? Not an area I do, but I believe adapters are available to target small/sensitive areas.

If it worked, deals with both less & longer time between regrowth AND it works best on very short hairs, so no need for long waits between treatments.

CherryKerry · Yesterday 16:46

Assuming she's bothered by it, take her to a proper salon for waxing.

Justaquestionplease · Yesterday 16:47

Regrowth after waxing is OK imo...because its been pulled from the root a new hair has to grow but it comes out tapered rather than blunt like it does with shaving. Ive also heard that every time you pull a hair out by the root, the next time it goes it keeps getting weaker...no idea how correct that is though but it makes sense.

doodlyfiddly · Yesterday 16:55

Dermaplaning! It has been an eyeopener for both my teenage daughter and me! Have a look into it. It's so easy to do yourself and is NOT the same as shaving when the hair is peach-fuzz-like.

This works well

Favouritefruits · Yesterday 17:01

bleached top lip hair can look horrendous on a darker skinned dark haired person, I had to wax it all off after trying it so I’d just go straight to waxing . Just the little strips from boots especially created for lip hair, easy, painted and very inexpensive!

Gertlushthatis · Yesterday 17:02

My dd is same age and same issue. I'm going to shave it and IPL it because I don't think at any point in her lifetime will the world be so progressive as to embrace the female tash.

Her skin is also similar to mine and waxing just causes me to burst out in spots for a week and then the hair has regrown.

Trumpisacunt · Yesterday 17:02

Dont use bleach ..its looks terrible

Autumnbootcamp · Yesterday 17:07

I recomend those twizzler stick things

Quick, easy, cheap, don't have to leave the house. Hurts though.

Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 17:19

I’ve got a similar device, but it’s only good for peach fuzz, won’t remove anything stronger

Ohhhthedrama · Yesterday 17:21

My daughter is a similar age. We go together every 3/4 wks and get brows and Tash threaded.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · Yesterday 17:37

The bleach just results in a blonde moustache! Anything but!
