New thread. Welcome back everyone. It's taken a while to get through the last due to how busy the advent threads have been.

All the holiday releases are coming out now and Black Friday is looming. So take a seat and buckle up. 😊

I’m desperately looking for a new reliable lip balm since my old faithful Blistex went weird on me.

So far I’ve tried

Summer Fridays - sticky.

Vaseline - I just don’t like the texture. Never have.

Laneige glowy - sticky and doesn’t last long

L:A Bruket - same as Vaseline. And the stick is huge so goes over half my face.

Klaavu - also sticky and doesn’t last.

I miss my Blistex so much. 😢

I really liked the Perricone MD lip oil - not sticky line lip oils can be.

@OvaHere I agree. I would be happy to pay more for a ticket and have bigger prizes. I won a MJ bag charm holder (I think) for the blusher which is no good unless I go and buy the blusher! Not sure I’d ever use the silver bum bag so that might be going to my niece. The CT samples were so tiny. It’s also crazy that they didn’t have enough samples/prizes especially for those that attended the last session. They knew how many tickets they had sold so should have ensured there were enough samples/prizes for everyone. Like you said it’s not just the price of the ticket. Many people including me also had travel expenses to get there. To then find out that the beauty brand you liked had run out part way through the session must have been so disappointing for some people. There were a couple of brands I wanted to see but couldn’t in the end as the queues were too long. Overall I do think I’d go again though.

I agree with both of you and wonder if people went back
to stalls a few times in their sessions and due to this the brands ran out by the end.
I think some people’s expectations were high when comparing to the US event and Paris last year and then the influencers as well so can see how people were disappointed.

MJ didn't even have the silver bumbags on the first day. I think maybe they saw all the criticism about the pencil sharpener and went digging in the store cupboard. 😂

I probably would go again but I'd travel down for day only and I wouldn't be that upset if I couldn't get a ticket. I'm not sure if/when they'll do it again in the UK as it seems to be different countries that host each year.

Literally just had a 5 day restriction placed on me for uploading Maison crivelli from JLFAC. It’s never even been sprayed but there must be some automation checking for key words.

It must be the weekend for it. I sold Maison Crivelli afterthe last H beauty event with no problem at all 🤷‍♀️

Fillybuster · 18/10/2026 22:03

@TragicMuse neither are very exciting, but I swear by Carmex (original formulation, either in pot or tube) and EA 8 hour lip balm (currently on offer at perfumesclub, if that helps)

Lanolips in the tube. It is pure lanolin. Cheap, frequently on sale at Boots. If you don't like it on your lips, use it on dry patches on your skin.

I use the original unflavoured and unfragranced one. I believe there are flavoured options and gift sets.

On the luxury side, I regret opening my La Mer lip balm from last year's Liberty BAC as I am now forcing myself to finish it up so I can go back to my Lanolips. It's not bad. It just doesn't do as much compared to Lanolips.

I have very sensitive eyes too and concealer always used to make them run. I've narrowed it down to a few products which don't cause any irritation:

Bobbi brown colour corrector stick - under eyes, before foundation. Lovely and creamy and just evens out the colour.

bobbi brown serum concealer - all round the under eye & eyelid as a base for eyeshadow - good coverage, hydrating, great colour match for me and doesn't irritate at all

new Lisa Eldridge concealer - this is nice and very glowy. The colour I bought is too light, so I use a tiny bit around the outer under eye to brighten. It's very moisturising, like the Bobbi brown - lots of skincare ingredients in though so I suppose it might depend what your skin likes.

I've also lost a lot of weight so my under eyes are my worst area - I think it's really hard to avoid the hollowing. I find a full on eye cream is too much under makeup but I have two that are basically just moisture - Sisley black rose (extortionate) and laneige water bank (reasonably priced). They help a little if my undereyes are very dry but if I have the time the best thing I've found are patchology chilled on ice eye gels. They really tighten things up and moisturise well. If I'm going out in the evening I put them on during the day and my eyes look much better later.

We seem to have similar preferences. I am thinking about picking up Lisa's concealer when she runs her Black Friday sales - thank you for the indirect recommendation

@DidILeaveTheGasOn I'm seconding @namechange0998776554799000 's Bobbi Brown recommendations, especially for the corrector. It's been around for decades and understandably so. Such a wide range of colours! If you can get yourself to a counter and test the product, that would be best as colour-matching with correctors is especially hard - most of us are used to just concealing.

@SucksToBeYou I love Touche Éclat though I haven't used it in many years.

@BeautyMoth @MrsBnow12 @OvaHere I had a lovely time at Sephoria yesterday afternoon. Thank you for all your advice. We actually ended up queuing for 2 hours before hand but there were already a lot of people in front of us.
Some brands like YSL, Hourglass and Glowery were brilliant despite the queues being very long. I went to Shishedo and had the skin scan but they weren’t giving out the large serum just a smaller one and Keratase weren’t giving out the large shampoos that I have seen on some videos but maybe that was reserved for gold members and influencers or they had just run out.
Some brands gave out pouches but there were no samples inside them. But it was still good fun and everyone was very supportive and recommending different brands they thought were worth visiting whilst we were queuing for a game.
I know some people have posted how disappointed they are on TikTok and I appreciate it’s hard seeing others getting bigger samples but I’m just so grateful to have gone. I don’t think the items in my goodie bag are as expensive as other people got but I’m still pleased with it.
There are definitely some new brands for me to try and it was a fun day out. I hope others can get tickets if they do another event in the UK.
Here is a photo of what I won on some of the stands and the goodie bag.

So glad you enjoyed it! It looks like the Gold and GA goodie bags were very similar with a good mix of brands. I agree that some of the games could have been better managed and so disappointing that you were given an empty pouch! It was a bit better on the Friday. The queues were still long but at least when you got to the front they apologised and gave out more samples. I was fortunate to squeeze in a manicure too (no queue for that one) but I missed both workshops. Overall, it was a fun day out with DD and I’m grateful that we were lucky enough to get tickets. Hopefully if they run it again they will take on some of the feedback so everyone has the same experience.

Hi @user7172 - I was wondering when you would be arriving in Seoul - I am so jealous. Yes, those Fwee dupes at Daiso are brilliant - I actually prefer mine to the Fwee products that I have!

I am also impressed that your DS was up for using a facemask! Mine just stood outside OY getting super impatient! (Subsequently I went on my own!) Have you joined the OY loyalty scheme at the flagship store in Myeongdong?

I am looking forward to seeing pics of your haul when you get back.

Re: Purchases

I had to buy a new suitcase after spending just three days in Myeongdong which unfortunately meant leaving my old too small one behind. (It had been fine for my last visit to Japan in 2019.) Fortunately it was a little battered and probably due for replacement but I am still missing it a bit! The hotel offered a suitcase disposal service so I was not the only one who had underestimated the delights of Seoul shopping! (I hope someone on the staff made use of it, because it was still usable.)

It was you who brought the fwee dupes to my attention @IlovePondso thank you. I may buy some more!! Nobody seemed to know about the loyalty scheme sadly, I’m pretty sure I was at the flagship store too, will go again when back in Seoul at the end of the trip and try again! Wow that’s good going with the suitcase. I deliberately brought a half empty one ( I say that, what I mean is I deliberately put half of my clothes into DHs case to enable this!!).
Such a shame about Sephoria but seems like you all got some great things!

On lip balm, I have the Penhaligons rose lip balm which I really like . I also loved the La Mer lip volumizer which came in Liberty BAC 24 but wouldn’t repurchase because of ££!!

IlovePond · 18/10/2026 23:49

@user7172 it was this vending machine:

To get access to it you had to sign up on your phone to Olive Young’s Loyalty Scheme. It was really quick and straightforward.

I even went back to the store a week later and managed to use the discount coupons I had got in my welcome pouch. (I was so pleased with myself!)

I then got another OY pouch for joining the Lotte hotel loyalty scheme when checking into a Lotte hotel later in the trip.

Have a lovely time!

Anyone has a discount code for Sephora?

namechange0998776554799000 · 19/10/2026 07:28

Has Look Fantastic always sold Medik8? I thought generally speaking they split most brands between LF and CB, so only one of them stocked each.

LF definitely have medik8 now anyway, which is good news because they often have those flash sales where everything is 25% off for a limited time. It's 20% off at the moment (which I don't count as a bargain as you can always get 20% off CB with a code).

openended · 19/10/2026 09:03

The code 'BEAUTY' is giving 20% off the rituals advent calendar on the ASOS website and some other rituals gift sets. Thought it might be useful to share if you are looking for stocking fillers.

IlovePond · 19/10/2026 09:07

Speaking of ASOS - have they sorted out their huge data leak? It’s all gone very quiet since the BBC articles and I never got any heads up from ASOS about it, (despite them having assured the BBC that all customers had been contacted).

I asked for my account to be deleted and did a request for my info but neither thing has yet been done.

openended · 19/10/2026 09:08

It was working this morning but seems to have expired now, sorry!

RuralVic · 19/10/2026 09:46

Cerave advanced repair ointment is really good as a lip balm, it saved my lips last year when they kept cracking.
On the subject of Sephoria there was someone on TikTok who had 8 of the one size sprays and 8 of the hourglass sets. She said she got them because her boyfriend was with her so she got his and by going back to the stand . Also someone said that there was theft from the some of the stands and that’s why they ran out.

IlovePond · 19/10/2026 09:58

That’s shocking @RuralVic - at the JL event they had a ticket punch system to discourage people from going to the same stall twice.

Btw: Further to what someone said upthread about good experiences on a stall encouraging people to look fondly on a brand, I definitely agree.

The people on the Kilian, New Notes and Chloe stalls at the JL event were great and really made me feel positively about their products. On the other hand, I found the Blink Brows staff rude and unhelpful and those on Aveda pushy and a bit condescending.

I think it’s selfish to keep going back to the same stand because then others will miss out. Some people are just like that I guess.

SheilaFentiman · 19/10/2026 11:35

@IlovePond Agree - the service at the Sculpted by Aimee stall at JL event made me more interested in the brand. Though the punch cards were a bit crap as they were printed on two sides that didn't align! Plus I think they were more about JL trying to see which brands were most popular than stopping people revisiting brands.

I'm addicted now to Clarins lip perfector, after getting a mini one in a cracker type thing last year.

It's a tinted balm as well as a treatment though.

I have a mini of the Prada one (it's pale blue and suppose to come out pale pink but I can't see that) which came in the Boots GWP. It is lush! Never going to pay £40 for a full size though...
