Plantar Fasciitis sufferers where do you buy shoes?

Shoes for plantar fasciitis sufferers that aren't trainers or very ugly. I've looked at Sole Bliss Vionics, etc and feel a bit miserable about what is on offer.

I suffered for years with pf - my local hospital podiatry team ordered some insoles for me which worked in pretty much all of my shoes and boots (mostly DMs), and ultimately cured me.

Aside from the Docs, (Spanish company) Art might be worth a look.

Good luck!

I don’t go for a specific brand. I look for soft, bendable soles with bounce. I have some off Amazon that are soft and bendable, flat or with a slight heel. I wear crocs when I can- at home or with casual sun dresses on holiday.

And when something works I get it in several colours.

I also find a tight shoe as a house shoe really effective- before your feet hit the floor in the morning, put them into a snug shoe. It stops your relaxed foot spreading as it hits the floor, causing micro tears in the fascia. It’s a real game changer.

Other than ballet flats once for a funeral, I wore trainers ALL the time when out! I did buy a black pair of trainers which were marginally more acceptable than brightly coloured ones, but it was still tricky. I've read of people wearing fit flops, but I never have.

Not your question, but I tried almost anything. Podiatrist, osteopath, physio, sock to lift the toes in bed, spiky ball to roll on, lost weight and did the exercises religiously. After 2yrs, I was waiting for laser shock treatment and caught a cold so stopped the exercises for a few days. I woke pain free one day! That was 5yrs ago and thank fully never had it back!

Thick spongy soles. Mine are from Clark’s and have like a two inch thick spongy soles. PF gone in two weeks after 2 years

Always FitFlop. Expensive but they’re the only the only ones that don’t exacerbate my plantar fasciitis. I wear the Rally trainers (smartish all black ones) for work, and the Chelsea boots are great too.

Fit flops

Birkenstock. I need firm arch support, anything squidgy like crocs and skechers sets it off again before too long.

SweetBaklava · 01/10/2026 21:55

FitFlop

Fuckitydoodah · 01/10/2026 21:57

I put insoles in my everyday shoes, and then at home made sure I had comfy shoes/trainers with arch support. Birkenstocks or fitflop are good. I still never walk around in just socks or bare feet. I make sure my arches are constantly supported.

I credit fitflop flip flops with sorting my PF out. Wrong time of year now, but take a look. They've got more non-fugly offerings these days.

Specialist insoles, Oofos shoes/flipflops recommended by my specialist foot doctor, Hokas and Hrt if you're of that age.

Yes, interestingly, I have been suffering with pain in the top of my foot the last couple of months and read that it might be hormone related so the last few nights once I’ve put my HRT gel on I rub what’s left on my hand on to the top of that foot and it seems to be making a difference already. Also massaging, stretching etc but those alone haven’t worked.

EffortlessDiscussions · 01/10/2026 22:09

I can’t wear inserts in anything except trainers and boots because my heels are really narrow and they flop out of the shoes if they are lifted up even slightly by inserts, even in lace-up shoes, it is very annoying.

Postandghost123 · 01/10/2026 22:17

Hoka Bondi 9 have been amazing. Spoken to others with different feet issues and they swear by them too. Only shoes I can wear without pain.

QuackingMum · 01/10/2026 22:20

Id second hokas as extremely comfy. I wear the sketchers day dream arch fit on hols. I wear addidas superstars with an insoles for work.

Cantonet · 01/10/2026 22:22

I have customised insoles and they're brilliant.
But first of all my foot doctor taped up my feet for several weeks as that creates a very similar effect to specialist insoles. It really worked well as a test and we went ahead with the customised insoles.
I had PF issues when I switched from hrt patches to the gel. My skin didn't absorb the gel and I consequently had foot injuries ( also due to a rogue rescue spaniel). I had lots of foot treatments and went back to the patches and the customised insoles and I've been fine for the last 2 years.

Geox shoes, spherica range are worth checking out

AndAllOurYesterdays · 01/10/2026 22:23

Vionic insoles and FitFlops

sakura06 · 01/10/2026 22:29

FitFlops too. I wear Crocs in the house in summer and FitFlop slippers in winter.

bozzabollix · 01/10/2026 22:33

Stepprs insoles with a random pair of Nike trainers. Also Mounjaro seems to have decreased the inflammation.

Ineedanewsofa · 01/10/2026 22:36

DH only buys Skechers because of his PF. I know comfort is the reason but they are hideous and seem to fall apart quite quickly 🤢

SuperGinger · 01/10/2026 22:59

Thank you for the recommendations I'm going to book myself in either a podiatrist on BUPA too about the insoles. interesting about the HRT I developed PF shortly after starting three months ago, I'm using the spray and feel so stiff and miserable.

I wear arch support insoles - Superfeet Green - in my ordinary shoes.

Fifthtimelucky · 01/10/2026 23:18

My GP recommended Fit Flops 15 years ago and I bought a pair (and now have several pairs). I have had no trouble with plantar fasciitis since.

Pattygonia · 01/10/2026 23:25

yet another vote for fit flops - my pf cleared up when I bought a pair and it hasn’t returned - I have one pair of new balance trainers but other than that all my shoes are fit flop brand now. Have rally trainers, a couple of pairs of boots and their ballet shoes. In the house I wear their mesh slip ons as slippers.

I often find good deals on Amazon for fitflops and/or their sales on the fitflop wevsite are pretty good

BCBird · 01/10/2026 23:37

Have you got a special insole for your shoes?
