Is there such a thing as a practical heeled ankle boot?

I’m not very good at finding what I want (or maybe it doesn’t exist…)

I am after a pair of black non-suede ankle boots with good grip and a heel of maybe 2 inches - not much more anyway. I want to wear them to work with dresses so not too baggy around the leg would be good

i have a pair from asos that are perfect except they are suede and they don’t do a non suede version and I’m not sure they are particularly robust

Anyone seen any that might fit the bill. Budget up to around £150

any help gratefully received!!

Is it a chunky heel you want?

BeardySchnauzer · 26/09/2026 20:42

Yes - something I can walk to work in during less pleasant weather

not too chunky but definitely a block heel

Yes a bit chunkier than I was thinking - my work is still reasonably formal so I’m not sure they would fit. Can see they meet the practical brief though as wouldn’t worry about slipping in them! Will have a look at what else they have

Timberland too chunky?

BeardySchnauzer · 27/09/2026 07:39

Thanks all. The Duo are the closest I think but the heel is too low

they have these though which are in the running (and the sale!)https://duoboots.com/products/dalia-ankle-boots-in-black-leather?

and I also found these which have a slightly lower heel but are maybe a touch more cowboy than I wanted

I think I must be very fussy

Clarks and Hush Puppies are good for block-heeled ankle boots. I bought mine from Clarks years ago and have been very pleased with them.

I really like the Dalia boots OP. Aren't they what you're looking for?

LuckyShark · 27/09/2026 11:10

Old boots but really comfy are the Acne Star ankle boots

Ive seen quite a few NWT on ebay and Vinted depending on your size - for a reasonable price.

I think the shape is back in again and I find mine comfortable

Pretty much but the only review mentions they dig in at the top. I don’t mind breaking a shoe in but that put me off a bit!

Just about to order the duo boots and see they charge £10 for shipping. May try and go to a physical shop as done want to pay that if they end up not fitting!!

eta there is an optional £6 charge to cover loss, theft, or damage in transit and instant resolution with Swap.

is that not implicit in the postage charge? I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years of online shopping!

I haven’t looked at this year’s offerings from M&S but they’re my go to for ankle boots, and it’s always block heels for me!

BeardySchnauzer · 27/09/2026 12:26

I find M&S and Next shoes don’t fit me right which is irritating as you can get good value shoes there.

nice ones in Dune but heel height isn’t quite right

@BeardySchnauzer how high do you want please and do you want chelsea pull or zip- also size?

BeardySchnauzer · 27/09/2026 12:38

Heel around 5-7cm. Size 6. Would prefer a zip and not pointy toed. Tbh the duo seem almost perfect if it wasn’t for the weird postage!!

Ecco has some blunt-toed styles you might like
Plain sculpted LX35
With thin strap/buckle trim
(both with zips).

Never worn Ecco myself, but sister says the leather is soft and good quality, although she'll only have worn flat styles.

BeardySchnauzer · 27/09/2026 15:20

I know where the Ecco shop is and some others on here so may go to the shops to try on.

This Clarks style is similarish to the ones I have, which are surprisingly comfortable for walking (speaking as someone who generally avoids heels).
Clarks Shaya (buckle detail)

These also seem to fit your criteria:
Hush Puppies Hensley (buckle detail)
HP Fearne (chunkier sole)
HP Halia (bilateral zips, quilted detailing)

I like the Clarks. They are front runner at the minute I think

Just to show how hard I am to please - I don’t like it when the heel part of the shoes sticks out noticeably further than the leather of the upper iyswim.

I feel I may need to see the shoes in the flesh and on my feet!!
