Absolutely, and for very tall men, it can be tricky, but he carries it well.

He is very lucky in that he can afford to have his clothes made to measure.

My DH is 6'4", ds1 6'5" and ds2 heading that way and buying them clothes is a nightmare. Most places that do cater for tall assume they are also broad which makes skinny teens almost impossible. Sleeves are too short and I was watching the 16 year old walking down the road with a group of friends all in school uniform the other day, his blazer grazing the top of his bum while the others all covered their buttocks.

I am the stumpy footed poster. I have just put my foot on my lower inner arm and it’s shorter by quite some margin. I then got extremely lanky, size 9 son to do it and his foot is also considerably shorter than his lower arm. Perhaps we’re all a bit wrong.

Blimey! Something would snap if I tried that 😁

RomainsCalmish · 17/10/2026 13:12

Agree that Felipe is always impeccably dressed - he is always spot on. The only things I’m not keen on are the linen summer shirts he sometimes wears - I think they are a traditional Spanish shirt (someone on here will know more than I do).

I do love the Hermès hot air balloon tie that King Charles wore for the engagement in Wales this week.

KC is very dapper. He's always been interested in clothes.
(Hideous safari suits aside 😱)

She looks really good. Her hair looks lovely (has she cut it?) and the tailored jacket really suits her.

Like you I don't always like what she wears but she looks happy and confident and people in Luxenbourgh apparently like her a lot.

I get the impression Stephanie doesn't really care about fashion and would probably be a jeans and tshirt lady if her role didn't demand more formal wear. She does look good here, not just the suit but her hair and styling is excellent, for once.

I will also add that her two boys are the cutest royal kids in Europe!

It would be great to one day see an exhibition of his whimsical ties!

Pallisers · 17/10/2026 14:51

Felipe is lucky in that he is tall and pretty good looking but it is his excellent bespoke tailoring that makes his formal clothes really impressive. I agree KC is interested in clothes and often looks very very good. William is also a tall athletic man - I think his clothes could look much better with a superb tailor for formal and a superb stylist for casual but I don't think he is really that interested in clothes/style.

Felipe had the same problem with his height as your DH and sons. He's amost 6.6 and rack suits never fitted. He begun using a taylor (Galla) when he was 11 y.o and kept using the same taylor until he died. Unlike you, Felipe has milliones in the budget to pay for his clothes.

The Spanish Royal House has one of the lowest budgets in Europe so no excuses for the rest of royal men dressing like a going to a company teams leaders meeting when they can afford it.

He's still a very rich man!

Not really. Felipe officially renounced his father's inheritanve in off shore accounts not cleared with tax authorities in Spain. It's where the majority of Juan Carlos assets are invested and the reason he lives in Abu Dhabi - he is not subjected there to any tax laws . Felipe is not poor but he's not a rich man by any royal standard.

Unlike in the UK where Parliament has refused to investigate off shore royal accounts, Spain did.

Fortunately for us the late Queen and now KC3 do pay for DH to have a couple of tailored items - his dress uniforms. They have also sent him places where he could afford to get items hand made but not for a while now so he has nothing m2m left in his civvy wardrobe.
Neither boy looks likely to join up so they will have to sort themselves out!

Ok, I'll leave it there to avoid a derail.

It’s State Visit week this week. Oman to the UK, Singapore to Sweden, and Vietnam to Denmark. Here is Queen Mary in a lovely boucle suit with oxblood accessories (she had a gorgeous bag too, but ditched it for the formal photo).

that's a gorgeous suit on Mary. I also love the brooch on the vietnamese lady.

State Dinner in Denmark and a new sapphire tiara for Mary, from a re-fashioning of an old family jewel, apparently. I love her blue outfit - and she matches very well with the Vietnamese first lady’s blue sparkly tweed.

Oooh! New sparkles 😍 I think Mary’s dress is fab. I like the subtle, just off one shoulder look and the sparkly bodice with the velvet skirt. Lovely!

Pallisers · 19/10/2026 19:14

that's lovely. I nearly always like Mary's style. I'd love a closeup of the tiara. The Vietnamese first lady's dress and pearls are very nice too.

I'm hoping to find a good picture of the new tiara

Serenster · 19/10/2026 19:16

There’s a very detailed post about the transformed tiara here, Pallisers. Looking at the photos from tonight you can see Mary has pinned the matching brooch made from the reduced-size tiara to a velvet band on her wrist. Clever!

Thank you @Serenster - I love the newer version and love the bracelet effect too.

I wonder how that tiara ended up back with the main branch of the royal family.

justasking111 · 19/10/2026 19:27

Oh it's much prettier than the original. The earrings are lovely. I can't quite see the wrist decoration.

I do wish that our royals reworked some of their jewellery. I can't see Camilla tweaking pieces though.
