It's interesting that it's a Mirto suit, so a fraction of the price of the pink Hugo Boss one.

It's been a long time since I read and posted here Maireas. Honestly I don't follow which royals are popular on this forum. I simply posted a personal opinon as a Spaniard with a good understanding how culture, even if we are all Europeans, affect royal style.

Letizia has done much more for the Spanish monarchy than her lack of loving big jewels and big fashion couture. People in Spain really love her down to earth style.

Different countries, different royal style opinions.

Edit: The off white suit you posted is not my favourite. The colour does nothing for her.

Maireas · 06/10/2026 07:35

That's fine, @Alondra. Please understand that this is a fashion and style thread and if people don't like the pink Hugo Boss suit, that's fine, I think there's plenty in her wardrobe that we do like! Opinions on style vary, but that's what makes for an interesting discussion.
Her shoe choices seem quite divisive!
There's no personal criticism of Letizia, or her role as Consort.

People have different opinions about style, royal or not. It'd be awful if we all agree 😊

Take my posts about Letizia as a personal opinion. Trust me, there people in Spain hating her style wanting to see her in big bling and dressed in couture like Queen Sofia was.

Maireas · 06/10/2026 07:46

Rania is definitely one of the more elegant and stylish royals, but I'm not a fan of this dress, but that could be my prejudice against big puff sleeves. I think a simpler silhouette would have been more flattering. A full skirt can work if the rest of the dress is fairly slim fitting.
Great cause, though 👍🏼

Oh I see, I suppose most of us didn't realise that. We don't have the context.
We're just looking at how she dresses and she gets a pretty positive rating on here. She often wears high street as well, Mango, Zara and Massimo Dutti which we like. She's had some great looks recently, just perhaps, for some of us, the pink Hugo Boss suit wasn't one of them. That's all.

I agree @Maireas
I really like Leti’s style.
But the Hugo Boss suit wasn’t her best look. I really didn’t like the deep salmon pink colour..
I go into Massimo Dutti and love the style aesthetic and most things in there but sadly haven’t lost the weight I need to, to look good in their clothes.
However on Leti’s toned frame they look so well.
Great to get your Spanish perspective @Alondra
Rania’s dress was a wee bit fussy.
A straight style with those sleeves would be nicer and lose the belt. But I think it would look more formal and not suited to a kindergarten class visit.

@Alondra please tell us about them. I do like them very much as a family. I see they're going to visit Ceuta, which I admire them for. The king and Queen seem very empathetic, I saw them in those tragic floods last year comforting many.

Maireas · 06/10/2026 08:08

Good points, @Banjas- I think Massimo Dutti outfits have been some of her best looks. I also like the summer wear when she goes to Mallorca for the summer holiday, shorts, white cotton dresses, loose trousers.
Yes, I agree with you about Rania's dress. She's always so elegant though.

I don't think this is the appropriate forum to discuss the Spanish Royal Family. But I will say one thing, Letizia has been instrumental to raise the support for the monarchy in Spain following the dreadful last years of Juan Carlos, when support for the monarchy was terminal.

smilesy · 06/10/2026 08:27

I love Leti’s style too, but no one gets it right 100% of the time and, let’s face it, it would be boring if they did 😆. It’s not a personal criticism. And the Boss suit proves that clothes don’t always look right just because they are expensive and / or designer. Catherine comes in for plenty of critiques of her clothing choices, but I think we all agree that doesn’t reflect on the job she does. Rania too is usually successful in what she wears, but I agree that this particular dress isn’t quite right. There is too much going on imo, with the poofy sleeves and the corset belt

That's why we admire the royals who support the institutions in a positive way. We're not so shallow as we perhaps appear. I admit I'm biased because I grew up with a monarchy, now older and wiser see how they pour oil on a lot of troubled waters, also are a constant in people's lives.

I also love the history, palaces, castles, people and jewels.

FGSWhatNow · 06/10/2026 08:42

Can any royal protocol experts explain this for me, please? On the NMR link to Charlene's fabulous Ellie Saab sparkly dress, someone had commented that the seating arrangement at the dinner was unusual (Caroline, Italian President, Albert, Charlene, President's daughter). There was a reply musing that they may have matched languages spoken so that people could converse to their neighbour, but also that Caroline couldn't sit next to anyone with a rank lower than President. Does anyone know if that's true and why? Something to do with her rank as RH rather than SH?

Maireas · 06/10/2026 08:45

Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can answer that, @FGSWhatNow. I do know that Caroline is HRH because she is Princess of Hanover, and ranks higher than HSH, the Monagesque title.
I would be surprised if she only spoke to people because of ranking, but I honestly don't know the arrangements at these events.

OP posts:
Alondra · 06/10/2026 09:15

Monaco's sitting arrangements in official dinners/ lunches are decided by arbitrarily decisions. There is no "royal protol" how to seat people by HRH titles or any other reason except what by what business dictates.

Monaco is not a parliamentary democracy. It's owned/controled almost entirely by Albert and as a sovereign prince, makes the decisions he thinks best for Monaco.

Together with Liechtestein, they are the 2 principalities/tax heavens in Europe with head of state with absolute power.

Choux · 06/10/2026 09:21

The seating is always like that in Monaco. State dinners are held in the Throne room and Albert and Charlene are always in the centre of the head of the table - see the photo of the entire room from the French state visit last year. The guest of honour from the invited country eg the President of France or Italy in these pics sits next to Albert. Caroline sits next to them as the next senior Monagesque royal in attendance. The visiting Head of State’s spouse ( or daughter in Italy’s case) sits next to Charlene. Mme Macron was next to Charlene at the dinner held for France.

Isn’t it all so daft.
Or is that just me ?

eggandonion · 06/10/2026 12:13

Speaking certain languages would make sense. I read that Melania speaks good French and liked Justin Trudeau....but I don't know where I read that!
I wonder how Caroline and Charlene get on.

Thanks, Maireas, Alondra and Choux, really interesting! Sounds like the original comment on the article was a bit of a red herring then. I'm off to read about the systems of governance in Monaco and Lichtenstein now 😊

I've just realised that the Lady Greville biography I bought ages ago to read, vanished. It was on top of the office desk the last time I saw it. I hope to god it hasn't slipped down the back. The desk is heavy with various leads running through it from sons computer tower etc 🙈

All I know about her (other than her collection of jewels) is that some other society dame said she'd rather an open sewer in her dining room than her!
