I don’t like Leti’s shoes either @Cassiope.
I do love a two toned shoe though, particularly the Chanel style ones.

They're cute but fairly conservative. I wouldn't call them bondagey at all!

No, I think I would have a different image in my head! 😂

Char looks very glamorous! Elie Saab of course. I love the design and the fact that the length is spot on 👌🏼
😍

Interesting it’s Elie Saab.
There’s a large Elie Saab store in Monte Carlo.
I thought of the Royal Style thread ( you lot 😀) as I walked past it.

Themessygardem · 03/10/2026 14:30

Oh wow, Charlene’s dress is spectacular, 😍

smilesy · 03/10/2026 14:54

Charlene’s dress is indeed spectacular, although I’m still not convinced that the one sleeve thing works again. It’s nowhere near as weird as the last one, but still, the train affair that comes with this one sleeve doesn’t work for me. She looks a bit like she is inside a watering can in the photo where she is standing straight on

Pallisers · 03/10/2026 15:02

She looks fantastic. But I also don't like the one-sleeved look. The dress on the lady with her is lovely too but the photo really shows how posture makes such a difference to how you look. Charlene is perfectly poised/posed.

Eaumyword · 03/10/2026 19:05

Char looks amazing. Can't fault her look - the dress is stunning, hair and makeup are ethereal.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 03/10/2026 20:59

Charlene's dress costs $16k! She rarely repeats outfits so I wonder where she keeps it all? She must have an entire palace just for her clothes!

Maireas · 03/10/2026 21:01

That's true, she doesn't seem to repeat outfits. She must have a huge space for them. I often wonder how some of these Royal ladies store their clothes. I suppose there's plenty of space in Palaces!

Do you think some of the clothes are borrowed?

Loans from the designer? Could well be.

I think so.
Plus the fact there is a large Elie Saab store in Monaco.
It would make sense.
Mutually beneficial.
But then again what do I know.
The Grimaldis are wealthy enough to be able to buy their own gowns I’m sure.

I don’t know about clothes, but I have wondered if some of Charlene's jewellery is borrowed (she has a truly spectacular collection of earrings if not!).

KnickerlessParsons · 04/10/2026 10:32

I wasn’t talking about Charlene in particular but all royals. We do see the occasional rewear but I they must all have so many clothes they’ve either worn once, or once every 5 years or so.
The designers get so much publicity by being worn by these women it wouldn’t surprise me if lots of their clothes are loaned.

According to Paul Burrell, Diana used to sell items to one of those upmarket nearly new shops on Kensington High Street. The late Queen used to give more casual daywear to charity shops in Scotland.
They still probably need a lot of storage though. My wardrobes are bursting at the seams, and I only have a fraction!

In the UK, more likely than not they don’t wear borrowed/free clothes, unless for a particular reason - the Royal family’s gifts policy states that they cannot accept any gift, hospitality, or service that would place them under an obligation to the donor or make them look compromised. They can however accept gifts from members of the public as long as they are not worth more than £150.

The former rule would mean they can’t wear clothes in return for publicity for the manufacturer, and the latter allows for example Kate to accept a gift of earrings being sold to fundraise for a suicide prevention charity (which she has worn a few times).

In theory then they pay the retail price for their clothes. I suspect, but this is pure speculation, that the “retail price” for bespoke wardrobe items is considerably less than the price a comparable outfit would cost you or I if we bought it, though.

QEII and Sophie have both been seen in public wearing a borrowed tiara though - I have often wondered how that worked!

Trouser suits are tricky. Her previous one - the cream - was lovely, this one, not such a great cut or fit. Is it the trousers? I somehow feel that the waistband is a bit too high and the leg length should have been longer. Anyway. Low heeled slingbacks - fewer straps!

Ooh no! Jacket too long, trousers too short and a nasty orangey shade of pink. Not Leti at her finest

Maireas · 05/10/2026 18:36

Yes, I'm inclined to think it's the proportions, mostly the trousers.

I agree the pink suit is not Letizia's best. Proportions and colour are wrong for her.

I love her oversized suit with the chunky shoes when most people hate it because it's not "queenly". I think it defines Letizia's style - urban and not defined by a "royalty" label except when it's institionally necessary.

I also like her suit meeting the Spanish community in Finland. It's a classic suit with feathers embellisement for an evening institutional event with gorgeous diamond earrings.

Letizia is never going to be a Maxima. She doesn't like jewels and only uses them when institutionally required. She favours small Spanish brand names fitting her style - pragmatic, simple and without pomp. It's not just her own style, it also fits in with the culture expected in Spain today as a monarch's consort.
