One is opening in my town! What are the best things there in your opinion?

At least half my wardrobe is Uniqlo. Their trousers, cashmere jumpers, supima cotton tees, seamless down coats and pufftech light jackets and above all,n their heattech thermals. I like their minimalistic designs. I do wish they did deep jewel colours.

Sleepthief · 22/09/2026 09:44

Cashmere-blend heattech! 🙌 And their linen in the summer.

They’ve got some deep burgundies, purples, teals and greens at the moment…

OsfameronTanamoril · 22/09/2026 09:47

Oh and their blocktech raincoats are amazing too.

SmolTiny · 22/09/2026 09:49

I'm in Asia and it's awful.
Prissy, buttoned up clothes that make me look huge.
Fleecy big buttoned cardigans that you'd buy for your nan in the care home.

I buy the odd thing in there but probably only one item a season, if even that.
I've been in Asia for 7 years and I think Uniqlo is gone to the dogs. It used to be decent.

I'm going to Japan soon and it's more of the same there.
Went to the flagship store in Ginza, Tokyo last Feb and there was nothing nice to buy.

😀
Do they have different clothes there? I admit I like prissy clothes. I particularly like they have no frills, bows, loud patterns, and not too many tiers or puff sleeves or girly details. Quite androgynous.

Madamefroufrou · 22/09/2026 09:54

we have one in Oxford to which I would like to give a shout out - to the lovely assistants, patient, smiley, efficient, the shop itself, always clean and sparkling
the clothes all neatly stacked, hung, well behaved, ensuring I’m always delighted
to walk out of the store swinging a Uniqlo carrier -
(best things are Cashmere)

JoeTheDrummer · 22/09/2026 09:55

One opening here too! Though if you’re in Bath we’re talking about the same one 😁

I have lots of the merino jumpers - they last so well. Also love the fleecy jackets - had a white one last year which kept me so warm but ended up looking filthy so I’ve gone for a more practical dark colour this year!

exactly, the antithesis of ‘prissy’ which is the whole point -

Yes, I guess. Poster meant they are not very alluring or sexy, I think. They are definitely not sexy.

LimpRat · 22/09/2026 10:06

Merino ribbed polo necks are good quality, or they used to be.. i like the collabs they do with artists/designers/whatever . Although so many crew necks.. I hate a crew neck.

I'm too fat for their stuff really, in Japan I felt very out of place shopping there 😅 although I did notice they will embroider stuff for you there. Not sure about here.

Xiaoxiong · 22/09/2026 10:08

I also have loads of Uniqlo. I rely on it for those "plain basics" that every wardrobe needs as I know they will have stuff in natural fibres like cotton, linen, wool and cashmere without it all having plastic or stretch shoved in for no reason.

White cotton t-shirts that are not see through
Linen shirts in many colours
Linen blend easy trousers in the summer
Merino wool/cashmere jumpers and polo necks
Puffa vests - one of these under a jacket is the perfect level of warmth for me for autumn and spring
Heattech base layers

DH wears their t-shirts, linen trousers, and merino jumpers.

My teen DSs buy the graphic t-shirts, flannel shirts, and the sporty stuff like shorts made of technical fabrics that still look smart enough to wear out and about because there aren't any logos.

I often get one or two bits from the collabs - I still have quite a bit of old Ines de la Fressange stuff, a JW Anderson long black skirt, and from the Comptoir des Cottoniers collab earlier this year I got a lovely pair of cream wide leg tailored trousers and a navy blue cotton knit short sleeved top.

I don't suit the voluminous or shorter boxy tenty stuff, or anything in dusty pastels or sludgy colours, so I just leave those for others to wear!

Some big city stores offer embroidery - the one on regent’s street in London and the one in Liverpool One that I know of.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/09/2026 13:28

The bags are fantastic, but I don’t rate the women’s clothes tbh. Men’s T-shirts are excellent.

CortieTat · 22/09/2026 13:53

I think the quality has gone down over time - I have their merino turtleneck from 2010 and another one from 2025 and the newer one is thinner. There are also more plastic blends in the regular (not technical) ranges - souffle yarn is horrible, DC has a sweater and it started looking like a rag after the first wash, not to mention the microplastics problem.

Cashmere is very decent for the price and I like some of the collabs. I still have things from the first JW Anderson collab and the Liberty one from 2016. I also like their cotton/linen blends and wear Marimekko x Uniqlo skirts every summer.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 22/09/2026 14:05

I like their cashmere, basic t-shirts, and UT t-shirts for DH, (and their geared trousers and shorts which he has lived in this summer) and I have the denim culottes, which I've found very versatile. The website gives actual measurements for each garment and fit details and stocks the largest sizes which the shops don't. I buy the UT t-shirts for friends at Christmas and they wash and wear brilliantly. Like all clothing some gems and some items which are poor reflections on earlier year's offerings, but still one of the better retailers for basics.

ruethewhirl · 22/09/2026 14:23

I bought a couple of satin bias-cut long skirts in there last year, don't know if they're still available but I really like them, also a long floaty yellow summer skirt. I also have a nice black fitted high-necked jumper (but I think that came from one of the collabs so might not still be available) and a black Heattech top which I love for cold weather. I'm a big fan of 'the' bag too and have a few in different colours.

CortieTat · 22/09/2026 14:26

Forgot to add that I am partial to their Mofusand t-shirts and they wash well and are 100% cotton, not super thick but not paper-thin and the prints are durable.

I also like that they provide flat measurements, easy to get the size right.

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2026 14:28

I love Uniqlo. I can only shop online as there are no stores anywhere near me, and it says a lot about their stuff that I've kept everything I've ever bought from them. I particularly like their cashmere and their shirts, and their longer length jeans and trousers are perfect for me.

SmolTiny · 22/09/2026 14:51

What I saw in Uniqlo over the summer:
Lots of cropped to the belly button v neck tshirts.
Tops with three quarter length sleeves - which make me look like I've outgrown them or they shrunk.
Three quarter length sleeves everywhere.
Cheap shiny fabrics.
Shapeless dresses with stitched layers that make me look huge - and with an inner lining of polyester which makes me expire in the heat.
Tshirts with very high round necks that make me look like I'm being garrotted.
Shiny material three quarter length trousers which make me look enormous.
I'm a size 12-14.

Dreadful. Didn't buy a thing in there all summer.

SmolTiny · 22/09/2026 14:52

Uniqlo - IMHO - is frumpy.
There - I said it.

In Tokyo? No, its the same shite as where I am in Asia.
To clarify - yes - it was exactly the same prissy and mumsy tat there too.
Did all 7 floors or whatever of that flagship store in Ginza.
I'd rather keep my money for nice things.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/09/2026 17:07

I have only been to a Uniqlo store once, in Manhattan, about 16 years ago. I’ve bought about 3 things online they have been ok, but I am always nervous about sizing as I am quite hefty. Until now, they have overlooked Yorkshire and the NE, but I am quite looking forward to being briefly excited by a branch opening in Leeds soon.

DJSteves · 22/09/2026 19:38

I want a new down gillet that packs into a tiny bag. Had my last one years and it still comes out every winter

mambojambodothetango · 22/09/2026 19:56

Bought the ankle length casual trousers in denim and Love them so much. £19.90
