How can I get this off? Help!

I ordered a top from Asos (Oysho) and it arrived with the anti-theft magnet on. I returned it and repurchased the same exact top, it's just arrived and the damn thing is still attached! Annoying thing is, I REALLY like the top.

Is there a way I can get it off myself? I assume if I return it and order another new one that I'll have the same issue. It's obviously a dodgy batch.

What can I do?

Pliers and force! I had the same thing happen but I wanted to wear the dress that day, it was surprisingly easy!

edit- I forgot to say how to do it 😂 hold the small end with the pliers to keep in in place and pull the big end and it just came off!

I wouldn't try to take it off yourself, they are notoriously difficult to get off, obviously 😅If you did manage it, I would imagine you'd potentially damage the garment/fabric

If you don't need to wear it urgently, I would suggest you just contact ASOS customer service and ask about the tag and for to send you a send you a replacement honestly. If you end up tearing it then you'll need to contact them anyway, right?

I can't get ahold of anyone at Asos, just a bot that keeps telling me I have to return it. The shirt is also entirely sold out so no replacements. I could order if off Oysho directly and see if there's the same issue, but there is then I'll have 2 useless tops unless I return them both 😂

Oh I thought you were going to say you had tried a dress on and it was too small and you couldn't get it off!

This happened to me recently! I got it off using 2 forks (and brute strength - video makes it look easier than it is), this method -

If it’s easy for you to get to the shops, I would pop in a few shops, see if they have the same tags and ask them to do it. You have your email as proof of purchase and it won’t be something they stock so they should be ok with doing it. I would have done it back when I worked in retail and I’m sure my manager would have ok’d it too.

Essentially you need a strong magnet to remove it. The shop I used to work in had a universal tag remover.

To build on the previous suggestion big H&Ms now have self service tills which have special circular things to take off these tags - assuming the tags are universal you could just pop in and remove it yourself.

I'm in rural southern France so it's slightly annoying to schlep to a shop and hope they do it for me 😩 I just tried getting a knife in between the 2 pieces (fork won't fit) but I'm being a wuss.

I think you will risk tearing it. Tags are not universal either. Surely you just have to return it again?

Have you got a strong magnet? That's what the shops use to remove them. I've had supermarket spirits delivered with the bottle top security things still on them, and just used a magnet to get them off.

I had this with a cost from Tresspass. Their tags are software coded. Had to go to a Tresspass shop to get it off.

Yes, probably. They've still got my size on their own website so I suppose the responsible thing to do is to return this one to ASOS and buy direct from Oysho, but their delivery cost is €5 and if I need to return it, I have to pay another €2! The cheapskate in me wants to just chance ripping it off so I don't have to pay the delivery charge, nor wait another week just to wear my pretty top.

Nope, just my collection of fridge magnets. Where does one acquire a large magnet? If it's cheaper than €5 it might be worth a try..

Doesn't look like an ink one, just a detector. Tin snips, if you can get to the pin, otherwise a hefty hammer.

There are loads of videos of how to get these off on Youtube. The forks one looks less violent than my hammer idea (though I've used the hammer successfully myself).

@EggsistentialCrisis If you have an auto repair place/garage/mechanic anywhere near you, they should have a powerful magnet.... Bonne journee. 😊

look on YouTube. I had this once and followed an online tutorial. I think I had to use a lighter to heat it… was easier than I expected.

I had this, I used a pair of pliers which Google is telling me are 'diagonal side cutting pliers' to lever the 2 halves apart and cut the pin. It shot the button end and a sharp bit of metal across the room, so I'd recommend being a bit more prepared for that than I was!

Oysho were HUGELY unhelpful! Basically said "not our problem" 😡 Tempted to try myself now. I'm back on the chat with Asos so maybe they'll offer more help. The hammer is looking enticing.

I had this with a top from Urban Outfitters. Tried a few local shops like Next to see if they could remove it but they use different ones. Tried various YouTube videos but in the end had to just go back to Urban Outfitters and get it removed. Sorry that’s not much help!
