What do we think of this jacket? No reviews yet.
I'm short , size 10. Short arms so need it adjusted which is extra hassle. Age late 40s. Usually casual and want to smarten up

This is a bit cleaner & more minimalist - cotton, zip-front, compact cut (even though it's not part of their petite range).

Washed black cotton from Whisyles sale, though not petite - but a neat cut?

@EleanorMc67 very kind of you. That hobbs one is nice but out of stock unfortunately. I do like hobbs stuff, but know I need petite in their jackets. Will have a vinted scroll now.

I tried a few m&s ones on and all swamped me unfortunately

I quite the shape, @VividDeer , but not the pockets or the check. Before I opened the thread I thought it was from Tu.

EleanorMc67 · 19/09/2026 23:48

This is cropped, fitted & very well-reduced.

It makes me think of 1960s fashion.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 20/09/2026 05:58

I don’t think it would look good on me but I can see it looking great on others

Girlintheframe · 20/09/2026 06:15

I don’t know why our I have an imagine of it in my head with those 80s ? stirrup leggings and heels!

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 20/09/2026 06:17

I like quite a lot of Barbour clothing but really dislike the jacket. It feels a very odd design for the brand.

GarlicSomething · 20/09/2026 06:27

I'm sorry, OP, the Barbour looks cheap. Not such a bad thing in itself, but it is at that price!

Next, usually brilliant for petite sizes, has a limited offering at the moment - they might have more in a fortnight's time, when it's properly autumn.

This one might meet the requirement to pull outfits together?

The Ba&Sh jacket has really long arms on their 174cm model, @EleanorMc67!

It makes me think of 1960s fashion.

I think that's where they've gone wrong. It'd look 1960s Mod style if it had slanted side pockets, with or without black edging, or even those pointless little straight-edged front pockets like a Chanel jacket. Giant plastic patch pockets at waist height, though, are weirdly incongruous and useless Confused

@EleanorMc67 very nice but I can tell sleeves would be long and shortening difficult or expensive as would lose lovely button detail
.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 20/09/2026 08:55

The sleeves are not long! The model is wearing a long sleeve black top under the jacket and it’s those sleeves that are longer than the jacket.

I think the fabric has limitations in terms of what it can be worn with. I’m tall and find cropped jackets pointless but shorter friends very much like them. So I’d buy it and return if it’s not a good look.

VividDeer · 20/09/2026 08:56

Thanks @GarlicSomething . Will look at that one. If its wool around my neck I sometimes find too itchy so prefer lower types of collar.

To show how short my arms are, here is me in the *hideous, Barbour where I turned them over.

Thank you. I can see why it appeals! But it's still a No from me. Those pockets are going to start annoying you, and they'll be peeling before long.

Larretin · 20/09/2026 09:09

What would you be wearing it with? Does it go with the clothes you own already, or do you plan a "smarten up" wardrobe overhaul?

I think it seems to go with the black trousers that the model is wearing. Less so with the jeans you are wearing in your pic.

VividDeer · 20/09/2026 09:14

@Larretin I'd prefer to find one that goes with black and blue jeans, but so far I've ruled out all the green ones i tried on and dont want beige.

The great thing about Next is easy returns! The co-ord skirt looks chic with the jacket, imo.

pictoosh · 20/09/2026 10:58

There are so many much nicer boxy short jackets out there...even on the Barbour site. I had a look.
Some I've seen are chic, well cut with good fabrics and functional pockets. The Barbour one you're asking about seems (sorry) fast fashion and disposable in comparison.
You can do way better for your buck.

StylishAndBeautiful · 20/09/2026 13:19

The Barbour jacket doesn't suit you, @VividDeer .
