What do we think of this jacket? No reviews yet.
I'm short , size 10. Short arms so need it adjusted which is extra hassle. Age late 40s. Usually casual and want to smarten up

It’s not my cup of tea but if you like it buy it. If you don’t like it on you can always return it.

5289843DM · 18/09/2026 15:15

How does it look on? It looks shapeless and boxy, but might be different on.

Freda69 · 18/09/2026 15:20

Barbour stuff always good quality, but those arms look too long even for the model, who’s probably 5ft 10in

MyManinCaracas · 18/09/2026 15:25

I wouldn’t but then I don’t find it remotely attractive. The sleeves are too long. The front pockets seem to be a misplaced design feature. It will add bulk to your middle and the neckline sits there like a lemon.

Crojo · 18/09/2026 15:31

It’s not my cup of tea either I’m afraid, it looks boxy and uncomfortable. I would worry about the longevity of the faux leather pockets too.
I would have a look at some petite ranges if you have short arms and don’t want the faff of having something adjusted.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 18/09/2026 15:32

I think it’s hideous, sorry. It reminds me of power dressing in the 1980s.

pictoosh · 18/09/2026 15:36

Honestly, the faux leather patch pockets are terrible. Not only will they make you look more bulky, they're not even practical. You can't put your hands in them and they're not big enough to be useful. Absolute design nightmare in plastic.

Agree re the pockets - I hate it when they're located in a way that you can't use them properly!

They look very odd - & I dislike fake leather/suede aesthetically & environmentally.

Power dressing vintage labels are currently highly sought after - Escada etc. I hated them in the mid-to-late 80s/early 90s (when I was teens/20s) - & I still do!

Garfieldloveslasagnepie · 18/09/2026 15:49

I don’t like it either

MakemineaGandT · 18/09/2026 15:54

Awful

VividDeer · 18/09/2026 16:26

That's a pretty big majority of no!
I did think the plastic pockets could scuff.

Off to look at petite ranges

What do you like about it OP? The b&w gingham, the zip closure, the short boxy cut???

What sort of clothes do you want to wear it with? Do you want it to be a lightweight jacket or something warmer?

VividDeer · 19/09/2026 10:59

@EleanorMc67 I liked that it was closer fitting than most jackets I saw of the bomber type that swamped me.
I can't wear pale colours easily as I'm fair. Khaki green washes me out and biege and that's the majority of things I saw locally.

It was quite flattering on (honestly ;)
A blazer is too formal for me.

I'm not sure what I want to be honest.

I returned this as sleeves and body too long and it picked up fluff and likely to crease badly. So those are other requirements I guess.

I did ideally want shower proof too, but I'm having enough trouble already.

I already have a leather jacket but need something lighter than can be carried/ put in a bag as I get hot.

Maybe I'll put this into AI and see what it says!

I would have said ok, I accept I am in a minority.

I really like it but the thing is, it all comes down to the person and how they wear it. A stylish person could totally pull off the look. I couldn’t and would look odd. Only you know if you could make it look good.

There's something just slightly off about it, but I can't quite place what. The fake leather pockets will get tatty really quickly.

I do like the cardigan that was below it though. That would work as an autumn layer. Although its only 17% wool! Disappointing from such an established brand.

So do you want a colour that would go with most things in your wardrobe? Navy? Black? Charcoal? Brown? What about a darker olive or forest green rather than khaki?

So, smart(er than what you already have) but not formal. Ideally showerproof. Not prone to creasing/attracting lint. Do you want it to wear now? As if you're looking at unlined linen jackets that would be very lightweight - not much heavier than a shirt, really?

I get hot very easily too, but at this time of year I would choose something lined/lightly quilted.

What size of bag do you want to carry it in? My everyday bag is a big soft leather tote, & even if I can't fold a jacket up inside completely, I will often fold it vertically & carry it on top of the bag between the handles.

glendabrownlow · 19/09/2026 17:31

I thought it was ok actually, I like it but don't love it. I'm sure you could pick up something similar but cheaper at M&S

EleanorMc67 · 19/09/2026 19:14

What about this, @VividDeer ? Unfortunately the navy doesn't come in petite, whereas the olive does. But it's cotton/elastane & all the reviews mention how well it works with smart or casual outfits. I'm quite tempted by it myself ...!!!

Possibly this in navy from M&S? Though the epaulettes look strangely long ...
