You probably shouldn’t use on a lighter on your triangle of death either 😬

Jeeze NO! Don’t want to set light to the super highway to your brain! 🧠

I’m a woman and my barber asks if he can offer me “anything else” when he finishes my hair. There was me thinking this hot man fancied me. He means wax up the nose, doesn’t he?

😁

This thread has made me laugh so much, although I think I may ignore the advice re sticking a lighter up each nostril 😁

It might seem hilarious, but in rare instances it can kill you. The tiny soft nasal hairs filter mucus, and the thick hairs are there to keep out larger particles from making it up into the back of the nose. Plucking can lead to infections in the follicles, particulary golden staph which is no picnic, and the same veins that carry blood out of the nose meet up with veins that move blood to the brain. So you can get inflammation of the brain, or a brain abscess.

The hairs are there for a purpose. Trim, if need be. No-one sane recommends plucking. (Or waxing, particularly at some salon or other.)

" Due to the special nature of the blood supply to the human nose and surrounding area, it is possible for retrograde infection from the nasal area to spread to the brain, causing cavernous sinus thrombosis, meningitis, or brain abscess."

Ha ha ha! You are either mad or very very brave!!! The burning hair smell though 🙊🙈

Probably both.

But the least expensive and least time consuming, is my drive when picking solutions to problems!

Barbers set hairy ears on fire don't they? So it would make sense if they offered the same service for noses.

This thread gets scarier and scarier.

It's because of the chance of getting a staph infection or similar in what is known as "the triangle of death" because of the close proximity to the brain. The nasal cavity is like a direct highway to the brain. Better to trim with scissors or similar.

And scarier!

Yikes! Well that's made me think twice.

Dermaplane is my method of choice.

I always feel like Dr Livingstone or some other intrepid explorer, hacking through the undergrowth.

So men’s appliance thingy for nose and derma plain for face you reckon?

Absolutely!

Apologies for late reply.

The dermaplaning has been amazing, I can't stop touching my skin - like a weirdo 🤣

And yes, blokes nostril trimmer. Same for both sexes, does the job.

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 24/09/2026 10:05

Thank goodness it's not only me. Post menopause and the hairs on my legs have stopped growing, but that's given the ones in my nose and on my chin renewed vigour.

I have a little shaver thing for the chin but hadn't yet worked out the nostril approach. No naked flames though!
