I use a wee bit veet hair remover. It blows my mind what comes out.

Eeek doesn’t that sting???

Oh, I have a dermaplaner (the Tweezerman one). May give that a try …

This sounds like the least painful method if done carefully! Do you get stubble?

OP posts:
PadamPadamPDoom · 19/09/2026 11:51

On my face? Absolutely not!

I once tried arguing with someone here who was convinced a dermaplaner would produce the same stubble as a razor. In vain did I plead that they are different instruments with demonstrably different results.

How are they different from a razor? I genuinely don’t understand…

A razor uses a flat sharp blade (or four if it’s my Harry). A dermablade is more like a tiny comb - I guess one could say a serrated edge.

I cannot explain why they work differently, but they do. Razors cause stubble, dermablades don’t.

I think there are dire warnings against plucking nose hairs, aren't there? I've never been sure why, and assumed it was a bit of scare-mongering. I did do lots of plucking, as those trimmers never seem to get close enough, but now I find I get a fair few painful spots inside my nose, which sometimes make my nose feel quite tight and inflamed. I assume these are perhaps ingrown hairs and this is why it's bad? I try to resist the plucking now, but sometimes I can't stand it.

I have alopecia universalis and therefore no nostril hairs at all. There are real downsides to a baldy inner nose. There's the practical problem of CONSTANT dripping if you have a cold or are outside in chilly weather. Hairs give the dribble time to dry a bit and stick in the chamber before they get to the exit.

And I think there is the more serious issue of your breath not being filtered a bit when you breathe in - which may make you more susceptible to viruses/pollutants?

Perhaps that is part of the reason for the warning, as well as the possibility of cuts, ingrowing hairs and infections.

I'm shuddering a bit at the razor-up-the-nose options. I think that in my pre-baldy days I may have tweezered once or twice and ye gods that was bad enough.

I'd stick to trimming rather than removal.

I snip em out with little silver embroidery scissors.

I’m a woman and my barber asks if he can offer me “anything else” when he finishes my hair. There was me thinking this hot man fancied me. He means wax up the nose, doesn’t he?

MyThreeWords · 19/09/2026 12:57

Barbers set hairy ears on fire don't they? So it would make sense if they offered the same service for noses.

SlimShandy · 19/09/2026 13:08

I use the nose wax @Pengane mentioned earlier. It doesn't really hurt - well maybe for a second, but it's soon over with.

I have read you're not supposed to do it because the hairs are there for a reason, but I'm happy to take that risk over looking like I have a small badger nesting in my nose holes.

AlgaeDreams · 19/09/2026 13:16

I've had lovely thick protruding nasal hairs since I was a teen.
I used to just stretch the nostril and use a bic razor... It was okay. Now I just use a mens grooming kit that was about £10 from Amazon.

I'm 50 and post menopause. This weekend I have derma planed for the first time - It's amazing!! My skin feels gorgeous and all those chin hairs gone, plus very long hairs growing on jawline. They've been there too since I was a teen.

I've spent a lot of my life shaving and plucking 😂 but yes, mens shaving is the way to go.

I’ve see the nose wax done and I’d rather have a Hollywood.

So men’s appliance thingy for nose and derma plain for face you reckon?

I’m only wanting to remove the visible ones. The rest further up there can crack on IMO.

Oh! So the derma blade isn’t flat edged? I didn’t know this.

Have just seen “twist and trim nose and ear twizzers” on Amazon - is this like the derma planing???

Fabulous product and works really well. It sort feels like you are mowing the lawn and you can hear it cutting your nasal hair. It is very impressive indeed.

I pluck the odd one that gets out of line but they are there for a reason!

Alternatively, stick a lighter up one nostril. Flick straight on and off. Repeat on the other nostril. Bit nerve wracking but not painful and hairs are gone.

It's because of the chance of getting a staph infection or similar in what is known as "the triangle of death" because of the close proximity to the brain. The nasal cavity is like a direct highway to the brain. Better to trim with scissors or similar.

weaselyeyes · 19/09/2026 14:27

@mulberrymilk This is exactly the kind of clarification I feared, thank you :(

OriginalUsername2 · 19/09/2026 14:29

You probably shouldn’t use on a lighter on your triangle of death either 😬

Gettingbysomehow · 19/09/2026 14:37

Also when you find 2 thick black chin hairs like spiders legs when you are blond all over.
It feels like you have an alien growing inside your chin.
