My crossbody camera-bag feels dated...but what do I replace it with?

I've got a leather crossbody camera bag with a wide canvas strap and I'm bored of it, feels like every other person has a variation on the same theme...but it's also really functional - right size, easy access, strap doesn't cut into shoulder, and works OK with most outfits (except v smart/dressy).

I'd like to replace it with something that feels a bit more current (or timeless!), but what? Ideally I want to tick the same boxes but change-up the style.

Watching with interest. Im so bored with those camera bags, but can't find anything else to replace them with. Would love something as spacious, secure and comfortable as they are, but still stylish.. Is that a unicorn??

Also watching with 🤔! Will post anything I find interesting

I bought this for my camera when I'm away etc. it's good. It's like a small backpack over one shoulder. You just unclip one part to swing the bag round to access your camera, so you don't need to take it on/off. Find it quite comfy and has a few pockets and compartments to put other stuff so you don't need a separate bag.

Clare V Fanny bags - American brand and you won’t find many here with them.

For anyone wondering what hairon is.

I agree that the camera bags look a bit dated now. Might a plain less wide strap help?

Kipling backpacks are fun. Lots of patterns, different sizes, great quality, and everyone comes with a fluffy gorilla keychain. I started using them for my camera when I needed to use a walking stick. No fuss when it’s just on your back. The pocket I keep my phone/cards in is next to my back, and can’t be pickpocketed. Lots of great features, but not for ‘evenings out’. I have small ones, and larger ones.

I really like the Apatchy Maisie maxi bag. It's simply styled, but could be called a "classic" design.

Agree - I’ve been using my Aspinal small black camera bag again recently but it is feeling a little dated, I do love it though and will just put it away as I’m sure I’ll use it again.

For the past couple of years I’ve been using a grey leather half moon cross body bag from All Saints, which has that shape many PP have linked - a bit like the ubiquitous Uniqlo bag but smarter. However that’s become a bit tatty so I was on the lookout for something else for quite a while. For every day and for work, I can’t use a big bag for work as I also carry a laptop bag so it has to be small and something I can tuck away on the tube.

Just took delivery of the Sezane Lou bag in vintage burgundy and I love it. You can wear it cross body but I’ve been wearing it on the shoulder. The strap is a little thin but overall I really like it.

I don’t want to derail the thread but are camera bags dated now? 😔 I’ve had my eye on one for ages!

GoodMorninSunshine · Yesterday 18:41

I’ve replaced mine for one of these Isabel Marant crossbody bags

IckyIck · Yesterday 18:43

@RumbleHoney , they're very popular and they wouldn't be if people didn't find they worked for them. If you like them, get one.

I saw this in person and thought it quite lovely.

Ooh that is rather nice, but it rather wants to be at that price.

I do like the “chunky top handle” vibe. I have had eye on vintage Coach lunchbox bags which have something similar about them.

This style is pretty ubiquitous but I’m still wearing it as it’s handy

Something about this style puts me in mind of the bag I used to take clubbing in the 90s which is probably just a personal hangup (I am not sure it is a particularly 90s style?) but I just see them and think miniskirts lipgloss and alcopops.

Those cross body bags with jaunty straps have definitely become the middle-aged mum uniform.

I’m not much of a bag person, but I’ve just bought 2 of these in suede, one brown and one red from Accessorize. They have a removable cross body strap (that I removed) and a short shoulder strap, so they sort of tuck under the arm. They’re a bit more current and I’m really pleased with them.

I feel I may need to clarify that I didn’t mean a literal bag for a camera!

Same, I'm struggling to replace mine. I don't like a bag that's too big like a shoulder/tote bag really.
Looked at these as they are similar but have thin straps.

I do like these but feel I might be catching the end of the wave. Thinking about just getting a cheap one (as they all look pretty similar), then I won’t be disappointed if they in turn look dated soon.
