Skirts see to be having a moment this winter! How are you styling them?

I am likely late to this but has anyone else noticed how many skirts are available now? I am seeing tons more than at any time in the past 20 years, and since I like them, it feels quite exciting!
I presume they're having a moment?

Anyone else planning on wearing them this winter? If so I would love to hear your styling ideas and what boots/shoes/coats you wear with them.

Minis with chunky, knee length boots, oversized jumpers and a long coat.
Midaxis with fine knit sweaters, short (bomber? )jacket and stiletto sock boots.

GoodGirlFaith · 10/09/2026 15:22

Around my waist.

elQuintoConyo · 10/09/2026 15:25

With DM boots. Since '91. Stuck in a rut? Me? 🤣

BreezyClouds · 10/09/2026 15:28

The only ones I'll be going for are good wool midaxi tailored to upper thigh with flattish leather knee boots. Kind of old fashioned equestrian.

ThirteenRooms · 10/09/2026 16:09

Those boots are gorgeous.

I would love to know where to find fine knits, too!

I’m loving this style of shirt this a/w. I have got this one on today and have styled it pretty much the same, with a tight white tee. I’m wearing it with Birkenstock clogs and slouchy socks.

I’ve also bought a denim ‘barrel’ style from topshop. Haven’t worn it yet, but I love it.

@ThirteenRooms uniqlo and La Redoute for fine knit

Gettingbysomehow · 11/09/2026 07:43

Long midaxi close fitting, leopard pleated or silky slip with chunky jumper or box shaped jumper and sock boots or flats.
In previous years I would have worn courts but Im so over them. They just look old fashioned now.
Im too old to wear minis.

I'm a skirt person. It has been very difficult to get skirts for years, so glad they are more available. Has anyone noticed that midi length seems to be longer than it used to be. I remember when it was mid thigh?

You're right, they are a lot longer, many on the taller models would sweep the floor on me and I'm 5'5 so not petite!

It is good tos see so many again, and in plenty of different styles too. Previously you'd see 4 micro mini's per store and a few 'occasion' or work skirts - now there's tons in different styles.

Any thoughts on tights / socks and shoes? Is it ankle socks all the way or sheer tights are ok - to style with loafer type shoes

Ankle socks feels weird and unprofessional, but nude legs is getting chilly!

Insecurepanda · 11/09/2026 13:50

I love skirts but am not very up to date with fashion! Can anyone share any nice ones they’ve seen?

ThirteenRooms · 11/09/2026 15:36

I've worn them on and off for years, feel more comfy if they have a flat waistband as everything lies more .. sleek - i have a high waist so bunched elastic often shuffles up to my boobs Grin

I have a dark navy midi a few inches below knee, wear with dark charcoal wool tights and doc martens chelsea boots (the regular, not super chunky sole). If indoors might wear soft leather mary jane flats. This style also works with knee boots, and lace up boots. I think anything goes really so long as the overall outfit works well.

In summer I will pair with dark grey or white low-top converse, no tights. For dressier occasions some minimal strappy sandals.

I have some images here from my pinterest folder, mostly winter inspired and minimal (I'm not mad about pattern in winter), but it gives some ideas regarding footwear etc:

Skirts are my favourite, so I hope we can have more with textured material.
I am looking for coloured stockings, not many affordable ones about. I did buy some bargains last year on a market stall.

Suggestions from anyone would be welcome.

Gettingbysomehow · 11/09/2026 17:54

I do have a problem with skirts as my waist is an 8 and my hips a 10 and its really annoying if the skirt doesn't hang properly or stay put at the waist so I tend to look for elasticated waists.

AbigailsKaftan · 11/09/2026 17:55

Just received a M&S Vinted bnwt waterfall skirt. Probably - year 2000. Lovely and will look great with biker boots and my Brora cropped cardigan.
Is in on trend? No. Do I care? No. Will I love wearing it? Yes.

Neuronimo · 11/09/2026 18:04

Another one going back to the 90's. I got rid of most of mine and then I tried on a bias cut devore one my Mum had put in the charity bag, for fun. I actually really liked it styled with chucky boots and bought a similar burnout velvet one on vinted, which is even nicer.

ThirteenRooms · 11/09/2026 18:30

Yes, I am currently drawn to bias cuts too. Ebay is great for finding skirts, not tried vinted yet though!

It would be nice if there were more knee length/ just above the knee skirts about. Find a mini a bit short these days

I like knee length too. Think it should be compulsory to put height of model. Seen some sites where they show an outfit on different size models- this i think is a good idea.

autumnvelvetwhisper · 11/09/2026 20:56

I've always worn skirts. I love maxi skirts with ankle boots, shorter skirts with tights, DMs or high knee boots and midi skirts with ankle boots. Love autumn/winter collections. So much more exciting 😊
