Yes! 2 years ago I had the same. Had to use hot water and fairy to get it to budge!

@keepincool have you tried the special small pliers I believe theyre called needle nose pliers. Also good for stuck piercings!

Out of curiosity ( as I am not a make up/skincare sort of person) what do people do with the 12 day advent calendars? Do you open every other day? Do you start on Dec 12th/13th?

I suspect that the answer is "buy 2x 12 day calendars"😂, but I'm looking to stay well under £100 for each niece. Maybe I should ask them if they would prefer an amazing advent calendar instead of an Xmas present?

They are designed for the twelve days of Christmas, which is Christmas Day up to 6th January

Last year I did Advent with a 24-day BAC and the 12 days of Christmas with a 12-day FAC. I wasn't keen on that, so this year I've bought two 12-day FACs for Advent.

But you can do whatever you like. Some just open them all when they arrive, treating them as an edit rather than an advent calendar.

I'm planning to do 12 weeks before Christmas and open 1 box of my FAC each week. I'm hoping I get more use out of my fragrances doing it this way 🤞🏻

I collected the Boots Skin for Dd, a very good looking box and a nice selection of items inside. Quite tempted to get one for myself.

That’s why went for LF. It had enough stuff I liked and I got it for £100. The more expensive ones were nicer but I can’t justify the spend

I've got 2 BAC (CB and F&M) and two FAC (Harrods and Boots.) If I can get JL and/or Selfridges FAC I probably will, but I'm done with BACs unless there are significant discounts, as I still have loads of stuff from edits.

Thanks. My mind is blown as this is all new to me. I'm just trying to be the cool aunt here. Last year got Dior lipsticks (thanks to a thread on the Xmas boards) which went down a treat (and even as a non-beauty focussed person, the packaging was stunning, even if it was a giant box for a teeny weeny lipstick)

That makes sense now, I was wondering why would anyone buy an advent calendar that didn't cover the whole of December (I was assuming it was a budget thing - better to have a nicer but smaller selection than a bigger but lower quality selection).

@JoRaRaRa thanks for the advice about the Sisley product in the Liberty BAC. I’ve just checked mine and it has an expiry date of 10th Jan 2027 too. I have contacted CS to see if they can replace it.
They also replaced my Reome item as the original one had leaked.
I just hope the other items in the calendar are ok.

I decided to go for Space NK this year. Have previously done Liberty, H Nichs (too many small sized products) and Fortum &Mason (very pretty box) but I think I like Space NK the best this time. It was between that and Selfridges. Wouldn't shop in Harrods after the Al-Fayed abuse scandal. Would like to have a look at Dipteque when that's out but one is probably enough each year...How exciting!

RE quality of the advent calendar boxes

Is it just me or has the quality of the actual boxes/packaging really gone downhill this year? Cult Beauty had no bubble wrap or anything so the corners were all bashed in, and SNK is so flimsy that some of the drawers had collapsed into each other 🤦🏻‍♀️ surely they can do better than this?

I bought an empty no7 calendar from last year on vinted recently and that's great quality! Thick cardboard and really sturdy, surely it's not that hard?

What do we think a good price for the Lola at coatcheck would be on Vinted? I posted on scents thread that Lola at coat check starts with coconut cardamom for me, then turns into a seductive floral ambery cloud. Can't wait to wear it properly.

I keep my other half updated on my BAC exploits - much to his well-disguised chagrin, I'm sure - and when I read out the message from CB's customer service about sending a picture of the non-existent product, he dissolved into laughter. It got a begrudging laugh out of me in the end because initially I was pretty annoyed.

Hearing about people receiving bashed, crumpled cardboard boxes with missing products is so disappointing and makes me cross. I am currently putting together a wishlist of products I really wanted from a few BACs I haven't ordered and seeing whether I want to order them individually or not. But then - an individual purchase presumably falls within the same parameters of UK law, in that there is no expiry date. Bit of an odd experience where retailers can do what they want.

Also chatgpt has helped me to find a schedule for 12 day FACs. Start with 1st November Sunday as a longer advent Sunday rituals. Follow up with each sunday then 8th,15th, 22,29th Nov, then December 1, 6th,13th,20, 23rd and 24th. Chat says it will help with winter blues as I will look forward ro starting a week witha new perfume and using it throughout.

So disappointing to hear about damaged boxes and old stock, hope everyone who’s having issues gets them sorted without too much trouble. My JLP calendar arrived very well packaged in a sturdy box, then another delivery box. I hadn’t even thought about checking expiry dates though, may have to get it down and have a look…
