I never weare dresses or skirts cos of the problem I have of my thighs rubbing together and realy hurting by the end of the day. My SIL is getting married and a friend of mine has made me the most gorgeious dress and I cannot wait to wear it but dont want to wear tights (my normal way out)- any ideas of what to do so I dont end up with chafing?

yey-ey-ey klippits and veg bags! and The Wire! And icing pens!!! Verily my Lakeland runneth over...

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 21:42

she grows coriander in the ground?!

WHY oh WHY does mine always fail?

Aitch · 29/06/2008 21:42

you must must buy it with the roots on from my lovely nearest asian grocer. all the supermarket pots are designed to die. same with basil, they put 50 little plants in there so they all footer and die, rather than spending the time growing one big plant that might be harvested.
the veggie bags work with herbs, tallis, i'm way ahead of ya here.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 21:47

i got some from a garden centre to try.

here's hoping this one works.

the others i got from this garden centre have all done well, as have the strawberries in hanging pots - they don't even need a windowsill .

oh, the veggie bags work for chopped veg, too, although i add in a kitchen towel or scrap of cloth dampened with some water.

Tallis · 29/06/2008 21:49

Really expat? Do the veg suck up the water from the cloth then? Can't wait to try them, Aitch (thrums fingers impatiently)

Aitch · 29/06/2008 21:49

i love those veggie bags... it's ridiculous.

Aitch · 29/06/2008 21:50

lol at you thrumming, tallis.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 21:50

i only use the damp cloth when i've cut up the veg, Tallis, and it does seem to work.

i really rate those bags.

Aitch · 29/06/2008 21:52

do you have a bag hierarchy? i use mine for herbs and salad from new, then work my way through broccoli, peppers, carrots etc and finally tatties. i turn them inside out every changeover. [thrifty]

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2008 21:53

I have no idea how we got from fat thighs to coriander but I like it

anyway my neighbour from India grows festoons of it in her garden
it's like a big old bush

Tallis · 29/06/2008 21:53

Ooooh. That means I can pre-slice all the veg for my Annabel Karmel purees and they won't go shrivelled and sad.

Aitch · 29/06/2008 21:54

you wot?

Tallis · 29/06/2008 21:55

So, just how how long can you eke out these veg bags? I mean, how many changes?? Ten? Twenty? Forty?

So, FandZ, it doesn't matter if you end up with great clouds of coriander then?

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 21:55

sob!

have a HUGE rosemary bush, have a thriving lavender bush, thyme, basil, curly parsley, mint.

no fucking coriander.

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 21:57

this thread is covering all my summer requisites: chaffing thigh solutions and rotting veg solutions. I love those veg bags but not sure how/whether to reuse.

Also, anyone got one of those lakeland banana bags for the fridge? I only get shopping once per week and bananas get too ripe unless in fridge but then they go black...

Aitch · 29/06/2008 21:59

dunno, they've got some sort of japanese organic blah blah powder on them that wicks away moisture so there comes a point where you can feel the powder is gone. if you have a lot of wet stuff in there they'd last less well, i imagine. maybe 5 times and then they just feel like normal bags?

Aitch · 29/06/2008 22:00

m&j it says on the instructions to seal (hence the klippits, T) the bags but i tend not to. what about you expat?

snice · 29/06/2008 22:01

Are you talking about stayfresh bags?

And do they really work?

Sorry OP-no advice on thigh problem other than stand with your legs apart.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 22:02

i use klippits on mine.

with veg like onions or carrots, you can get at least 5 uses out of them if you just chuck the veg in whole.

i find i get about 5 uses out of them for soft veg like courgettes and aubergine.

fishie · 29/06/2008 22:02

DILL. nobody can grow that.

Aitch · 29/06/2008 22:02

they do indeed. only buy the large ones, the others are a pita.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 22:03

i only buy the large one, too.

i bought the wee ones by mistake once and still have them.

can't figure out what to do with them yet.

Aitch · 29/06/2008 22:04

root ginger, expat. that's it. i still have the first and last pack of the small ones i bought about, oh, five years ago.

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 22:05

snice they really work. Watercress which normally has a shelf life of 2 seconds lasts about a week with these things.

Agree about the small ones though. For keeping a couple of slices of cucumber?

snice · 29/06/2008 22:06

I can't believe that my mother who is the queen of Lakeland has not discovered these yet unless she's just keeping them quiet
