Fat thighs rubbing together....any solutions?

nocluemum · 29/06/2008 05:28

I never weare dresses or skirts cos of the problem I have of my thighs rubbing together and realy hurting by the end of the day. My SIL is getting married and a friend of mine has made me the most gorgeious dress and I cannot wait to wear it but dont want to wear tights (my normal way out)- any ideas of what to do so I dont end up with chafing?

OP posts:

Evans sell comfort shorts which are a bit like the top part of a pair of tights - They are not the sexiest item of clothing that you'll ever own but they are much less hot than wearing tights and stop the chaffing.

BeetrootBevan · 29/06/2008 20:18

don't be so ridciulous

she say she has fat thighs

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:19

expat it's the reason why women have a higher percentage body fat than men. And men almost always put their weight around their middles whereas women quite often put it on around their lower half. It's a classic female shape, not a classic male shape.

Not in the least bit mythical.

BeetrootBevan · 29/06/2008 20:19

she did not tell us she was 9.5 she said she had fat thighs

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:20

she said she was 9.5 stone and that it used to happen when she was 8.5 stone as well.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 20:21

'expat it's the reason why women have a higher percentage body fat than men. And men almost always put their weight around their middles whereas women quite often put it on around their lower half. '

Being an educated person, I know that, margo, but it's an utter myth that there is a particular childbearing shape at all. Women of all body types can conceive and give birth, many with no problems at all.

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:24

I didn't link it to ability to conceive expat. You are picking at an argument I didn't make.

I said women have a higher percentage body fat than men. This is because they have to support childbearing. Thin women will have a higher percentage body fat than thin men.

This fat has to go somewhere. It is therefore typical that women's shapes are softer and "fatter" than men. On top of that, women are more likely than men to have a pear shape. Men keep their fat around their waists. Women are more likely than men to have a pear shape. So more women than men are likely to have fleshy thighs.

So far so unexceptional.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 20:25

FFS, I am not picking an argument!

WTF is with this board these days?!

You can't post a single thing without being accused of arguing, being sanctimonious, etc. etc.

How dull can you get?!

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:26

ok so don't cut and paste my post and appear to be commenting on it in a way which doesn't lead the argument any further.

Perhaps you were just riffing?

BeetrootBevan · 29/06/2008 20:27

she said she was 9.5 after we had said lose weight

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:28

oh and by the way, sanctimonious was for those who suggested losing weight - not you afaik.

My point is that at 9.5stone it's a pretty normal weight unless the OP is 4ft tall (which I admit she may be) therefore excess weight is unlikely to be the issue.

Very fed up also with people taking any opportunity post holier than thou posts about issues to do with weight and a number of other superwoman type issues.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 20:28

I prefer just ignoring people who seem to get bent out of shape over complete and utter FA, margo.

But go ahead and knock yourself out, because it just gets too old too quickly for me.

fishie · 29/06/2008 20:31

oh dear. i have thighs which rub and skinny legs and small hips and a fat tum. and i don't conceive easily.

i must be evolution / natural selection in action before your very eyes mners.

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:32

I came to the thread to post about comfort shorts which I have done and then to ask for an end to prim posts about weight loss. Your post attempts to deconstruct mine for some reason that I do not understand. If you're not bent out of shape and you do not have a comment for the OP, where is this heading?.

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:33

fat tum? lose weight for god's sake

Aitch · 29/06/2008 20:34

hazey, no, they're not warm at all. they're like a pair of tights, but not in themselves tight, iykwim? they're surprisingly airy. i highly recommend them.

don't get black ones, though, i've got white ones and i'd consider getting the flesh ones if i saw them in the shop. but without having seen them (ordered online) i thought my legs were more white than flesh...

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 20:34

It's headed with you chasing your tail, margo, because nowhere did I ever comment about the OPs weight or issues with thighs she finds fat.

I came on and agreed with aitch about the pants being a good suggestion if the OP finds her thighs chafe, for whatever reason.

I have no idea other than cod's post who made it about her weight and being heavy or eating.

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:35

for some reason you commented on my post in a passively pissed off way and I'm still not sure what riled you about it.

Aitch · 29/06/2008 20:35

actually, aren't apple shapes more prone to PCOS? that's not great for conception purposes... perhaps there is something in it after all? [apple]

Aitch · 29/06/2008 20:36

i do recognise a lot of posters here from the 'i'm and apple where the fuck can i buy trousers that won't fall down?' threads...

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 20:38

YOU construed it as passively pissed off, margo.

I just saw it as a normal post of mine.

Not all people are apples or pears. Some are straight up and down. Plenty of pears, apples and straight up and down people have problems conceiving, others don't. There are many on this board who claim they are straight up obese and conceive with no problems, and yet there's research out there that says obesity can hinder fertility.

Hence, there is no such thing as a child-bearing body type, IMO.

fishie · 29/06/2008 20:39

i think you are right re small hips = closer legs aitch. or i'd like to tell myself that.

was told i had a 'mersey tunnel pelvis' at my first smear test (aged 17 thanks a lot doc) and would 'drop them out'. many many years later 4 day failed induction and an ecs.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2008 20:40

My sister is obese. She has PCOS. She conceived twice the same cycle she decided to go for it, whereas I took 6 months with each girl.

Poor OP.

Hope she finds a solution to her chafing problem.

margoandjerry · 29/06/2008 20:40

Aitch - we are the negative of each other. I have more than enough hip. Belts have no place in my world. But I do recognise the OP's problem - very much.

Actually I have comfort shorts and lycra shorts and I would like to find another solution as the comfort shorts in particular are not as comfortable as they could be. I would really like a really soft cotton lycra version..so in case anyone knows of another supplier...

Aitch · 29/06/2008 20:40

at mersey tunnel pelvis... are you from liverpool??!!
