September reset

FauxFox · 01/09/2026 08:28

I love September, itโ€™s like a NY feeling for me and I am going to take the opportunity to turn over a health and beauty new leaf ๐Ÿ˜Š
less booze (much) more water
some kind of exercise every day (even if itโ€™s just a walk)
being outside every day
eating whole food not UPFs
something each day for beauty routine (I started this already actually - did the foot peel socks two days ago, dyed my hair yesterday and currently have a sheet mask on that promises to rejuvenate and brighten my skin!)

little things, nothing extreme just a quiet focus on being kind to myself and hopefully creating a lifestyle that will leave me with more energy and able to look and feel my best.

any recommendations for vitamins/supplements that actually make a difference welcomed, I feel like I should take something but instagram is overwhelming me with miracle potions and I donโ€™t believe them!

Multi vitamins and eat salmon if you can.
Add in berries.
Cut the booze.

Itsnouse · 01/09/2026 08:51

Holland and Barret well woman multivitamin- thereโ€™s a 50+ version too. Even with a good diet itโ€™s good to have all bases covered imho particularly if you are vegetarian for example.

Cuppachuchu · 01/09/2026 08:58

September feels like that for me too, must be the back to school feeling.
I had a sort out of my wardrobe yesterday, got a pile of "hardly worn it or gone off it" jumpers and tops for the charity shop bag.
Now I can see properly what I do have, and can't really say I need anything new.๐Ÿ˜ž
I even have a full compliment of coats and boots.
But, I do need a new mascara, and quite possibly a lipstick ๐Ÿ˜

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/09/2026 09:34

I am working my way through some samples and Try Me kits to see what works and also to declutter .
I am liking a StriVectin anti wrinkle cream that I used on my neck but it smells a bit weird ( not off but weird). The results are good enough to overcome that but I'd need other products for my face and they're ยฃ.

I need to put away my summer clothes soon ( not yet) and decide about a dress that I like the colour but it doesn't suit me ( I bought it from eBay so if it goes to the Charity Shop I'm not losing much)

Then look at my winter coats and decide what I'm keeping and not to buy any more

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/09/2026 09:46

I have Nutrition Geeks vitamins
Cannot say hand of heart if they are helping but probably still early days.
And I need to dye my hair again , might get away with just doing the roots as I can see silver just at the roots

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/09/2026 09:49

Great idea.

I want to get better at having more protein in my diet, so need to read up on some easy fixes for that.

I also need to review my makeup as I think Iโ€™m probably getting a bit old for brown eyeliner, but feel and look naked without it.

dudsville · 01/09/2026 10:05

I've recently been able to make big life changes for the better in terms of looking after myself. I've if then was going to the dentist for the 1st time in over a decade. They praised how well I look after my teeth but advised to stop eating nuts and hard things. I've bought some ground nuts and seeds to add to porridge, and have switched from toast and eggs to porridge with fruit and ground nuts and seeds. That feels like a powerful way to start the day.

FauxFox · 01/09/2026 12:01

lovely to hear all your plans - a multi vitamin sounds like a good non- gimmicky basic so I will pop into H&B later in the week and investigateโ€ฆ

love salmon and seeds and nuts, my diet is actually not bad but I will definitely benefit from cutting out wine and drinking loads more water.

i had a wardrobe clear out at the weekend too - find it so cathartic ๐Ÿ˜Š looking forward to boots and dark coloured nail polish and jumpers ๐Ÿ‚

Getting back into the habit of moisturising my body every day, so easy to not be bothered but I always notice the difference when I do take the time.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/09/2026 12:13

I started a few months back using a Waschie cloth in the shower ( it's an oval towelling face flannel type pad, a couple I have a double sided to exfoliate) and a wash off cleanser . Much better for me than a muslin cloth .

Dental hygienist appointment and follow up

Resolve not to be lazy with waxing now it's heading to autumn, it takes only a couple of minutes to do my pits .

Im using some face masks I bought earlier in the year, nice to apply then relax a while .

EllaPaella · 01/09/2026 14:25

After a very indulgent and boozy summer holidays Iโ€™m also determined to break some bad habits. Too much booze, infrequent gym routine and a weeks all inclusive where I did nothing but lie in the sun, read, drink and eat (bliss) Iโ€™m ready to start afresh for autumn.
My plan:
Stop snacking on biscuits and chocolate
No booze on weekdays
Go to bed earlier and try and get a good 7.5 hours a night of sleep.
Balayage refresh
Go back to getting my nails done regularly
Back to a decent gym routine as of today!
Sort out my wardrobe- sell stuff on Vinted that I havenโ€™t worn in ages.

I also need to review my makeup as I think Iโ€™m probably getting a bit old for brown eyeliner, but feel and look naked without it.

Iโ€™ve taken to doing batches of boiled eggs to keep in the fridge as snacks for my daughter, and am really enjoying them too as a quick protein fix! Sometimes with a bit of hummus if I feel like something extra.

Overall Iโ€™m also doing a September reset, heading back to work after a relatively long period of illness so need to make sure Iโ€™m as healthy as possible. So no drinking, lots of water, and for me the best thing is setting up the day with an excellent breakfast. I usually take all my medication with yoghurt first thing, then have some overnight oats that I add berries and seeds to in the morning (as the days get colder this will become porridge instead) and then a banana as a mid-morning snack.

I often find itโ€™s easier to stick to dietary changes if you effectively โ€œmasterโ€ on mealtime at a time, so now Iโ€™ve got breakfast to be a proper habit, Iโ€™ll start focusing on lunch. Generally our dinners arenโ€™t too bad as Iโ€™ve been nudging the family towards a Mediterranean diet for a while now.

FauxFox · 01/09/2026 15:23

I am off work this week so easy to get into the swing of things, when I go back on Monday I am going to make an effort to take lunch from home so there will probably be some kind of meal prepping on Sundayโ€ฆ love overnight oats, they can be on the list! No more sad meal deals!

Have booked an exercise class for this eveningโ€ฆ

As your diet is quite good you would probably be wasting your money taking a multivitamin. If you Google โ€are multivitamins worth takingโ€ you will find this to be the case. Vitamin D is worth taking in the months between October and March in this country as we donโ€™t have enough sunlight to help our bodies manufacture it themselves. Everything else you are doing sounds eminently sensible. A few years ago, I did a September reset by starting regular exercise classes. That was one of the best things I ever did

Princessfluffy · 01/09/2026 18:53

Iโ€™m upping my dental hygiene routine and trying to lift a few weights on the regular. I may join an exercise class too. I also need to reduce my cake consumption which is currently at one a day ๐Ÿ˜.
I thought I didnโ€™t need any new clothes this season but I seem to have bought several items anyhow so Iโ€™m going to try a one in two out policy.
September is a way better time for a new start than miserable old January imo.

StripeyPJs · 01/09/2026 19:01

Vitamin D. Youโ€™ll be thankful when itโ€™s Feb/March and youโ€™ve been deprived of sunlight for months. Really helps me with energy levels and mood (especially in the morning).

Dental hygiene appointment - and whitening teeth if needed for a little boost.

Iโ€™ve drastically cut down my sugar intake in the last fortnight (itโ€™s always been high, but got totally out of hand this summer!) and already feel so much better.

Iโ€™m also trying to add good things into my diet rather than cut out anything else currently - loads of veg and fruit and good protein.

Cant speak highly enough of daily meditation, if you can find a time in your day and type of meditation that works for you.

OnlyUsername · 01/09/2026 20:30

I'm about a year into running 3 times a week but it's dropped to once/twice with the heatwaves and school holidays so as of tomorrow I'm back on 3 times a week and I've signed up for a Half Marathon. I have also donated a massive pile of jeans (10 pairs, leaving me with 13) and am not going to buy any. New. Knitwear. None. My wardrobe will not thank me if I do.

I recently used a semi-permanent dye to get some golden tones back into my hair which is getting more and more matte brown with age, but I'm not sure it was worth the faff, so maybe just a good haircut needed.

FauxFox · 01/09/2026 20:51

Went to gym class, roast veg and fish for dinner - September has started well!

tomorrow I am taking DS to a theme park where there will be nothing at all healthy to eat Iโ€™m sure! I am planning to take leftover roast veg and humus and feta from home instead. DS can have what he wants though, he would not appreciate missing out!

i used to run loads but havenโ€™t regularly for a while, i might go in the morning if the weather is okโ€ฆ

FauxFox · 02/09/2026 09:05

Went for a run - am amazed! Slow but steady ๐Ÿ˜Š

my beauty focus today is going to be nails - my fingernails will not grow they flake and are weak, I have a Sally Hanson hard as nails (or something) that I am going to use, I have also bought some cuticle oil to put by my bed so I try to remember to use it each night. Will also paint my toenails I think Red, they are sky blue at the moment and it feels too summery for September.

Whattinger · 02/09/2026 09:41

I love this thread!

Earlier in the year i had a health scare which caused me to radically over haul my diet & life in gereral.

I cut out all processed foods, added in more oily fish, walnuts, oats, berries, pears, greens etc

No alcohol unless it was an occassion & i was out or at a dinner / traveling etc

My diet was never awful but i def was having too many takeaways etc

I've lost 2 stone & am in a great place weight wise now & will lose another 7lbs which will give me plenty of wiggle room

Financially things are far better than they were over last couple of years as dh got a new job. I get paid every 2 weeks & i have been buying stuff to replenish my wardrobe every 2 weeks on payday.

I got loads in the sales so stretched the money i had as far as i could & restocked my summer wardrobe which hadn't been looked at in several years (my least fav season style wise)

Now i have created a wish list & i am working my way through it, boots & shoes etc i have relatively expensive tastes so love researching & finding the perfect thing & waiting for it.

I really look after my stuff & wear things over years

I've also bought several new with tags things from vinted. I'm not in UK so get all the european brands which i love

I get my colour done every 6 weeks & while i always had my brows shaped this summer i've started tinting them as they're really pale & it makes a huge difference

I also invested in new makeup in spring including Tom Ford bronzer & blusher

Next on my makeup list is an eyeshadow pallette & new brushes

I've had a lot of complicated & v expensive dental work done at the start of the year so don"t even want to think about that

Next for me is exercise to tone & get fit. I need good walking runners (not fashion) so will sort them out & start getting out there

I had 2 full pedicures over the summer with shellac on toenails & it was fab so i'll def keep that up. Even in cold weather it's lovely to have nice feet under the socks!

I stopped painting my finger nails in 2024 when biab nails destroyed my actual nails & i really went off it

My salon offers a japanese manicure (buffing nails no polish) & i'm considering trying it to see

When i was trying to sort my nails out i started filing them only, no cutting or clipping & it literally transformed my nails i keep them short but they were terrible for splitting. Now i don't know when i last split a nail!

Castlerigg · 02/09/2026 14:50

@FauxFoxcan you share / link the sock peel thing you used please? My feet could use some attention.

My diet is pretty decent, but I know wheat doesnโ€™t do me any favours so Iโ€™m planning on making a concerted effort to avoid it, and UPFs. I made my own mayonnaise and yogurt a few times, so Iโ€™ll try and reinstate those habits.

LlynTegid · 02/09/2026 14:59

If it's not been mentioned already, buy fruit and veg from a market stall not a supermarket.

Astrabees · 02/09/2026 15:08

Try all your clothes on and make up some outfits with accessories, then parade about a bit in front of the mirror.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 02/09/2026 15:28

I agree with a PP who said September feels much more like a 'fresh start' than January. I've been off the last week and a half and am back at work tomorrow. Have meal prepped for lunches and also joined a new gym to do some weights classes.

I don't want to try and take on too much stuff at once tbh so going to try and stick with this first before adding anything else.

Don't need any new clothes, can't wait to get my autumn stuff down but its still quite warm even in the NW so that may be an end of September task.

FauxFox · 02/09/2026 21:18

@Whattinger i will definitely try nail filing instead of clipping - hopeful that will help!

@Castlerigg it was a Korean one from TK Maxx ๐Ÿ˜ it hasnโ€™t been too exciting results wise yet but can take a few more days so we will see!

i bought some lovely new tops from TK Maxx too - beautiful plum colour vest top with a v neck, sheer long sleeve top with a Ted Baker type floral print black/pink/plum/sage, and also a sheer pink/plum ditsy floral print blouse that sounds awful but is prettyโ€ฆ planning to wear to work with pink or sage tailored trousers ๐Ÿ˜Š I love TK Maxx - favourite shop ever, you never know what you will find!
